Vote now to help Sandite Dance win free flight to Nationals

The Charles Page High School varsity Dance team has made it to the final round of an online contest, and your vote could help them win free flight to the Dance Team Union National Championships this February.

One way or another, the Sandites are headed to Orlando, Florida on February 1st. But they can save some serious money by winning the DTU Team Spirit Contest.

There are twelve finalists and the winner will be selected by the contest sponsor from among the top five vote earners. The contest ends Wednesday, August 15th at 1:00 p.m. EST.

CPHS Dance: Sandites need your help to win free airfare to Nationals

The Charles Page High School Varsity Dance Team needs your help to get to Nationals, and you can get them there with the click of a button.

Sandite Dance will be traveling to Orlando, Florida on February 1st for the Dance Team Union National Championship. This year the DTU is holding a Team Spirit Contest on Instagram, with the winning team receiving free airfare.

Fifty teams have made it to the semifinal round of the Instagram competition. Each team has posted a team photo with the hashtag #dtuteamspiritSEMIS, and the ten teams with the most likes will advance to the finals.

At press time, the Sandite post has more than 4,100 likes. Thompson Middle School in Alabaster, Alabama leads the contest with more than 41,000 likes. Westmoore High School from Moore, Oklahoma has over 18,000 for second place in the contest. The Westmoore Sabercats are the defending National Champions in Varsity Jazz and were the Runners-Up in Hip Hop.

Sand Springs is currently eighth in the standings, and should advance to the next round if nobody leapfrogs them, but every vote is an extra layer of security. The Semifinal round of the competition ends on Wednesday, August 8th at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

The Sand Springs Eighth Grade, Ninth Grade, and Junior Varsity Dance Teams competed at the 12th Annual TSF Dance Championship this past weekend and the JV/Ninth Grade team took first place in Hip Hop and second place in Pom.

The Tulsa State Fair Cheer and Dance Championship is the second largest dance competition in Oklahoma and has four categories of competition.

The Ninth Grade and JV teams competed together in Hip Hop and took first place over Booker T. Washington. They also competed together in Pom and took second place. Jenks took first place and Broken Arrow claimed third. The Eighth Grade team competed in Pom but did not place.

In the Pom competition, poms must be used for at least 80% of the routine and props are not allowed. A pom routine focuses on synchronization and visual effects. The Hip-Hop competition focuses on creativity, body isolations, jumps, stalls, and floor work. Judges score on overall effect, choreography, group execution, and dance technique.

Sandite of the Week: Sand Springs Dance

This week Sandite Pride would like to recognize the achievements of the Sand Springs Dance program who are an invaluable asset to our community.

The dance team works year round to support our other sports programs through cheering them on at events and making posters and more, in addition to their own competitions.

This past weekend the 8th grade dance team won a state championship in mix category and the JV/9th Grade squad won a state championship in Hip Hop, while coming in third in Pom.

Gabby Miller is the 8th grade coach, Megan Faulkner is the 9th grade coach, Rachel Ellis is the JV coach, and Michelle Spears is the Varsity/Head Coach.
