Obituary for Mildred Joan Brumley Davis

On August 16, 2025, Mildred Joan Davis ("Joanne") (nee, Brown), beloved Mother and Grandmother was taken from this life to the next into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She dedicated her life to the education of children and to her family.

Our Gram, Joanne, 93 years young, was a enrolled member of the Seminole Nation Mekusukey Band. Gram began her education at Limestone Gap graduating in 1949 from Atoka High School and was in the Executive Secretary program at East Central State University. She was a teacher's aide with the Tulsa Public schools for 28 years, retiring in 1996.

Joanne attended Parkland Baptist Church in Tulsa and then Olivet Baptist Church in Sand Springs Oklahoma. She was a tenacious and tireless volunteer. With her lifelong friend, Juanita Brown, for years they cooked for the children at Falls Creek Assembly Summer Camp in Sulphur, Oklahoma, and together they laughed and enjoyed vacations across the country, and annually to Red Earth and the Christian Retreat House, Glorietta, New Mexico.

She loved her family, her friends, her kitties, and she adored her grandchildren, Marna, Ian, Maren and James, who were a great comfort to her. Joanne loved traveling, taking the family out to dinner, and rooting for the Sooners, the Chiefs, and, inexplicably, the Kentucky Wildcats.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, Maynee Brown and Frank Isherwood, of Atoka, Oklahoma; her husbands, Robert Brumley, James Reed and Buckley Davis; and her son, Forbus Terrell Brumley. She is succeeded by her daughter, Robbie L. Gillet and spouse, James F. Gillet, Fair Grove, Missouri; and grandchildren, Marna L. Kerr and spouse, Nathan R. Driskill, Kansas City, Missouri; Ian C. Brumley, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Maren E. Gillet, Springfield, Missouri; and James M. Gillet, Fair Grove, Missouri.

Visitation will be Monday August 25, 2025 at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home, 9350 East 51st St., Tulsa from 5:30-7:30PM. A graveside service will be conducted by Reverend Scott Palmer on Tuesday August 26, 2025 at 2:00PM at Little Cemetery in Little, Oklahoma. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to the Olivet Baptist Church, Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
