OSSAA Announces New Districts for Baseball, Basketball, Football

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association has announced new district assignments for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years.

Football

The football districts are still pending OSSAA board approval on September 6th.

The Sandites will remain in Class 6A-II, playing in District 2 with Stillwater, Bartlesville, Capitol Hill, Muskogee, Northwest Classen, Piedmont, and Ponca City.

Capitol Hill, Northwest Classen, Piedmont, and Ponca City will all be newcomers while Tahlequah, Putnam City West, and U.S. Grant will drop from the Sandites’ schedule.

Sand Springs has never played Capitol Hill, Northwest Classen, or Piedmont. The two Oklahoma City schools are currently in 6A-II but play in the opposite district, while Piedmont will be moving up from 5A.

Ponca City is a longstanding rival of the Sandites, with the two teams having met every year since 1978, even in non-district years.

Baseball

Sand Springs will play alongside Bartlesville, Jenks, Moore, Muskogee, Norman North, Owasso, and Stillwater in District 6A-3.

The Sandites are currently in a district with Jenks and Owasso, but Bartlesville, Moore, Muskogee, Norman North, and Stillwater will all be new foes.

Sand Springs played Bartlesville and Muskogee last year in non-district action but haven’t played Moore since 2017. The Sandites and Norman North last played in 2021.

The Stillwater and Sand Springs meetings will be particularly exciting after the Pioneers sabotaged the Sandites’ home regional this past year.

Basketball

Sandite fans will see a big change in basketball scheduling as the OSSAA implements districts for the first time, effectively ending the conference era.

Sand Springs will retain longtime Frontier Valley foes Owasso, Union, and Bartlesville while forging new rivalries with a slate of west-side schools in Edmond Memorial, Enid, U.S. Grant, and Putnam City.

Lady Sandite Basketball sweeps first three games in dominant fashion

The Charles Page High School girls basketball team is off to a hot start on the year, winning its first three games by an average of 42 points per outing. 

Ranked No. 15 in Class 6A, the Sandites easily handled Owasso 54-37 in the season-opener, then pummeled Northwest Classen 90-26 and Tulsa Central 54-8 at the Golden Days Hoop Festival.

Senior star Journey Armstead scored 20 points with five steals and four rebounds to power the Sandites to their seventh straight win against the Rams. 

Leyshia Morris, Hailey Jackson, Taiona Morris, and Sakauri Wilson each contributed 8 points apiece for the Sandites in a balanced first-string effort, and Avery Tanner scored 2. 

“That's what we're going to need for us to be really good,” said Sandites coach Josh Berry. “We have to have that. We can't rely on one or two people to get us there. I talk to all of them about that, being ready, staying aggressive, and spreading the wealth around.”

Sand Springs won the junior varsity game 40-36 behind a 15-point effort from Abby Martin. Fayth Walker scored 12, Kiaryn Taylor scored 6, Patience Pearce scored 4, Kadence Bentley scored 2, and Tay’ja Butler scored 1.

On Thursday the girls were led by Armstead with 22 points and Jackson with 20. Taylor scored 11, Leyshia Morris scored 10, Walker had 7, Wilson and Taiona Morris scored 6, Avery Tanner had 4, and Layne Kirkendoll and Patience Pearce scored 2. 

Friday’s game against Yukon was canceled, so the game against Central was moved up from Saturday and the Sandites took a 52-0 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Braves finally found their way onto the scoreboard.

Jackson led all scorers with 15 points and six rebounds, followed by Armstead with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and six assists. Kirkendoll collected 11 rebounds and scored four points from the bench.

Wilson and Taylor scored 5, Tanner had 4, Leyshia Morris scored 3, and Pearce and Taiona Morris scored 2 each. 

The Lady Sandites will get their first ranked test Tuesday at No. 17 Jenks (2-2, 1-0) in a conference battle. The Sandites have won their last 15 games against the Trojans. 

OSSAA Football: 2020-2021 District Assignments released

The Charles Page High School football team will enter a new era in 2020 under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Bobby Klinck, replacing Dustin Kinard who led the Sandites for thirteen years. The new season will also feature some new teams on the schedule, following the release of new District assignments from the state’s governing athletic board.

The OSSAA released its district football assignments Wednesday afternoon, and Sand Springs will see five familiar faces and two newcomers in District 2. Bartlesville, Bixby, Booker T. Washington, Muskogee, Ponca City, and Sand Springs will remain. Shawnee and Sapulpa are dropping to 5A. Choctaw and Putnam City West are moving over from District 1.

Deer Creek, Del City, Lawton, Midwest City, and Stillwater are all returning to District 1. In addition to losing Choctaw and Putnam West to District 2, they’re also losing Putnam City to 6A Division 1. Putnam City North will drop from 6A-1, Northwest Classen will move up from 5A, and U.S. Grant is rejoining OSSAA competition after a six-year hiatus.

District 1

Stillwater went 7-0 to win their second-straight District 1 title, and were 12-1 as State Runners-Up for the second-straight year.

Del City was 6-1 in District 1 last year for second place, and 9-3 overall for their best season since 2012. Their three losses were all to State Finalists.

Midwest City was 4-3 in District 1 last year for fourth place, and was 4-7 overall for their worst season since 2012.

Putnam City North went 3-4 in 6A-1-2 last year for fifth place, and were 6-4 overall for their second-straight winning season.

Deer Creek went 3-4 in District 1 last year for fifth place, tying their previous district record. They were 5-5 overall for their best mark since 2015.

Lawton went 2-5 in District 1 for sixth place, and were 5-5 overall for their worst record since 2008.

Northwest Classen was 1-6 for seventh place in District 5A-2 and 3-7 overall. They were 2-8 on the field for their best mark since 2016, then received a third win when their final loss was overturned by a forfeit.

U.S. Grant got a six-year pardon from OSSAA competition to try and rebuild their program from the ground up. They are rejoining the league after going 6-3 on an independent schedule for their first winning record since 1998.

District 2

Bixby went 7-0 in District 2 for their second-straight district title, and have won 25-straight games for their second-straight State title.

Muskogee was 5-2 for second place in District 2 and were 8-3 overall for their third winning season in the past four years.

Choctaw went 5-2 for third place in District 1 last year and were 8-4 overall for their best mark and first post-season win since at least 2004.

Booker T. Washington went 5-2 for third place in District 2 and were 6-5 overall for their eighth-straight winning season.

Ponca City was 3-4 for fifth place in District 2 and 5-5 overall for their best record since 2005.

Bartlesville was 3-4 for sixth place in District 2 last year and 3-7 overall for their fourth-straight losing season.

Sand Springs was 1-6 for seventh place in District 2 and 2-8 overall for their third-straight losing season and worst record since 2009.

Putnam West was 0-7 in District 1 and 0-10 overall. They were shut out four times. It was their third-straight losing season and second 0-10 mark of the decade.
