CPHS Wrestling: Sandites roll over No. 8 Owasso 55-11, win 12 of 14 matches

After narrowly winning their first dual of the season, the Sandites blew out their second opponent 55-11. Class 6A No. 7 ranked Charles Page High School (2-0) won twelve of their fourteen matches against No. 8 Owasso (0-4) with five pins and a technical fall.

Shane Wolf (1-0) kicked the night off with an 8-7 decision over Zeke Wheeler in his varsity debut. He dominated the match offensively, scoring three takedowns and two nearfall points, and only gave up escapes, penalty points, and a single reversal.

Next up was returning State Finalist Brendon Wiseley (1-1, 53-21), who rolled to a 15-0 technical fall against Troy Bullman in 3:54 with 11 nearfall points.

Caden Vaughn (2-0) notched the first pin of the evening, beating Leyton Warne in 5:37, then Seth Jones (2-0, 46-29) pinned Grant Bunten in 1:05 for a 20-0 lead before the Rams got on the board. Returning State Qualifier EJ Tecson pinned Caleb Phillips (0-1, 8-28) in 3:00.

The Sandites picked up four more wins from there, with Blake Jones (2-0, 28-14) edging out Kilian McNichol 3-1. Preston Medlin (2-0, 15-22) won a 3-0 decision against Bryson Perez, Ethan White (1-1) won a 12-3 major decision against Chad Herbert, and Chris Kirby (2-0, 60-24) pinned Zach Conrad in only 36 seconds to make it 36-6.

With only five matches remaining, the Rams needed to win all of them by pin to tie the dual. They would only win one match, and the Sandite victory was clinched when returning State Qualifier Nate Jacobson only managed to tech Chase White (0-2, 0-4).

Sango Whitehorn (1-0, 3-4) kicked off a four-match win streak to close out the dual, beating Jesse Newby 15-6 with seven takedowns. Brooks Dudley (1-1, 11-9) pinned Scott Ghavami in 1:06, Josh Fincannon (2-0, 41-34) won 7-3 against Devin Harris, and Robbie Parrish (2-0, 4-15) received a forfeit to end the night.

The Sandite Junior High won their dual 42-27.

Both teams will return to action Friday morning at the prestigious Perry Tournament of Champions.

No. 6 ranked Charles Page High School traveled to No. 10 Stillwater and came away with their 22nd consecutive season-opening win, 36-31, thanks to an incomplete lineup from the Pioneers. Twelve matches in and Stillwater owned a 31-24 advantage, but they forfeited 220 and 285 to end the night.

Freshman stud Cael Hughes got the Pioneers off to a great start, winning a 13-3 major decision against returning State Finalist Brendan Wiseley (0-1, 52-21) with three sets of back points. Gabe Fontanez won a 14-3 major decision against Harley Newberry (0-1) and the visitors found themselves in an 8-0 hole.

Preston Medlin (1-0, 14-22) had a closely contested match with Jake Egleston at 145 pounds. They stayed neutral through the first period and Medlin rode out the second, then reversed for the lead early in the third and held on for the 2-0 decision.

State Qualifier Tanner Robinson worked up an 8-0 lead on Ethan White (0-1) but the Sandite got an escape with two seconds left to save his team a point. Chris Kirby (1-0, 59-24) headlocked Isaac Wilson for a pin in 0:34.
