CPHS Cross Country: Girls place 5th, Boys 7th at Edison Eagle Classic

The Charles Page High School Cross Country teams competed at the Edison Eagle Classic in Chandler Park on Saturday. The Varsity Boys placed seventh out of nine teams, while the Varsity Girls were fifth out of six.

Sam English knocked nearly a minute off his personal-best to lead the boys with a 5K time of 17:36.64 for 25th place out 63 runners. Noah Hanlon, Zach Davis, David Rigsby, Michael Johnson, Cage Gilmore, and Kai Lamho also set personal records.

Madison Chambers improved by 37 seconds on her PR to lead the Lady Sandites with a 22nd-place finish in 24:53.55. Ty Davis, Bella Ensten, and Laila Mirza all set PRs for the girls.

Sandite Cross Country will return to action Tuesday, October 13th at the Frontier Valley Conference Championship at Mohawk Park. Varsity Girls will run at 4:00 p.m. followed by Varsity Boys at 4:30. Junior Varsity races will begin at 5:00 p.m. and Junior High races will start at 6:00 p.m.

CPHS Cross Country: Sandites set several personal records at Owasso

The Charles Page High School Cross Country Team has struggled to put together a full Varsity Girls team this year, but they managed to Saturday at Mohawk Park, and placed 29th out of 31 teams at the Owasso Invitational. The Varsity Boys placed 28th. The junior high teams also participated, but didn’t have a full lineup.

Jazmin Lopez led the girls with a 5K time of 21:30.6 for 73rd place out of 254 runners. She knocked nearly 45 seconds off her previous personal best. Madison Chambers took 1:40 off her personal record, finishing in 25:35.66 for 209th. Kirsten Neal improved by three minutes with a PR of 26:55.33 and Laila Mirza had a PR of 29:10.42.

Noah Hanlon led the boys with a time of 18:21.85, a 37-second improvement on his PR, for 120th place out of 279 competitors. Sam English ran a PR of 18:33.72, David Rigsby improved on his best by 32 seconds with a time of 21:30.17, and Zach Davis knocked 33 seconds off his PR with a time of 21:31.02.

Brynlee Durborow ran the 1.5-mile junior high race in 9:37.69 for sixth place out of 245 girls and Rafael Huff ran it in 10:26.42 for 93rd place out of 265 boys.

Sandite Cross Country is scheduled to compete at the Edison Eagle Classic Saturday morning at Chandler Park. Varsity girls will run a 5K at 8:30 a.m. followed by boys at 9:00 a.m. Middle school girls will run a 1.5-mile loop at 10:40 a.m. with boys at 11:00 a.m.

CPHS Cross Country: Jazmin Lopez and Varsity Boys place 2nd at Gold Rush Invitational

The Sand Springs Cross Country program hosted its third annual invitational meet Saturday morning at Case Community Park. Formerly known as the Case Cross Country Invitational, it was renamed the Gold Rush Invitational this year and the boys’ elementary team successfully struck gold with a first place finish.

Griffin Sensintaffar paced the elementary boys with a one-mile time of 5:59.3 to lead a group of 48 runners. Landon Durborrow ran a personal-best 6:33.76 for seventh place, Dax Wilcox had a PR 6:36.52 for ninth place, and Gavin Corbin rounded out the top-ten with a PR 6:48.71. Presley Quinnelly, Jessen Cox, Alex Martin, Dean Earnest, John Selby, and Kai Chambers all set PRs.

The elementary girls placed second in the one-mile run, led by Chloe Grona with a time of 6:48.51 for second place in a field of 62. Josie Grona placed fifth in 6:54.24. London Velasquez, Lexi Boone, and Nola Chambers set PRs.

The varsity boys also placed second in the 5K, with three runners in the top ten. Alejandro Lopez ran a PR 18:46.12 for sixth place out of 62 competitors. Dalton Wilcox was seventh with a PR of 18:47.44, and Sam English finished eighth just two seconds behind Wilcox. Noah Hanlon also set a PR.

The varsity girls were unable to earn a team place due to only having four runners available, but Jazmin Lopez represented the team well with a second-place finish out of 46 runners, running the 5K in 22:55.93.

Neither the boys nor girls had any junior varsity runners, and neither had enough junior high runners to earn a team place. Brynlee Durborow was fourth out of 142 junior high girls in the one-mile run with a PR 5:59.47. Rafael Huff placed 56th out of 151 junior high boys with a PR 6:34.98. Landon Buttram, Colt Cothran, and Koby Hadley all had PRs.

The varsity teams will return to action Thursday at the Oklahoma Baptist University Cross Country Challenge in Shawnee

CPHS Cross Country: Boys place 20th, Girls 22nd at Holland Hall

The Charles Page High School Cross Country teams competed at the 35th Annual Holland Hall Invitational Saturday morning in Tulsa. The Varsity Boys placed 20th out of 26 teams and the Varsity Girls placed 22nd out of 24 teams.

Junior Sam English led the boys with a 70th place finish out of 197 runners, running the 5K in a personal-record 18:44.92. Dalton Wilcox had a PR 19:01.73 for 77th and Alejandro Lopez had a PR 19:04.20 for 82nd.

Junior Jazmin Lopez led the girls with a 34th place finish out of 178 competitors, with a personal-best time of 22:15.40. Madison Chambers had a PR 27:16.14 for 139th. Several freshmen ran their first varsity 5Ks.

The Sandite Elementary squads ran at the 8th Annual Kiefer Trojans Meet on Saturday, September 12th. The Girls placed fourth of eleven teams in the one-mile run and the Boys were third of ten teams. The Junior High teams also competed but didn’t have enough runners to earn a team place.

Chloe Grona won her second meet of the year, leading a field of 123 elementary runners with a time of 6:19.91, closely followed by Josie Grona in third place. Sophie Grona, London Velasquez, and Leighton Dial all set PRs.

Griffin Sensintaffar placed third out of 123 elementary runners with a time of 6:08.51. Waylon Roberts, Kellen Adkins, Alex Martin, Dean Earnest, and Baker Lee all set PRs.

Brynlee Durborrow placed fourth out of 181 athletes in the junior high girls race in 6:12.36. Alicia Kemp and Catherine Sarasua set PRs. Landon Buttram led the junior high team with a PR time of 6:51.11 for 78th place out of 159 boys.

Sand Springs will host the Third Annual Case Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. in Case Community Park.

The Charles Page High School cross country teams competed at the Broken Arrow Tigers Meet Saturday. The Varsity Girls placed ninth out of nine teams and the boys were seventh out of nine.

Jazmin Lopez placed 39th out of 68 runners to lead the Lady Sandites with a 5K time of 23:00.09 and Dalton Wilcox placed 38th out 73 runners to lead the boys with a time of 18:14.73.

Sandite Cross Country will return to action Saturday at the 35th Annual Holland Hall Invitational. Varsity Boys will race at 9:30 a.m. followed by JV Boys at 10:00 a.m., Varsity Girls at 10:45 a.m., and JV Girls at 11:30 a.m.

CPHS Cross Country: Sandites open season at Owasso and Sapulpa meets

The fall cross country season is officially underway for Charles Page High School, and the Sandites have competed at two events thus far. The Sandites opened the year at the Owasso Ram Charge Relays, and competed at the Sapulpa Chieftain Meet on Saturday.

The Lady Sandite Varsity struggled in their first race of the year, running the six-mile relay in 54:57.54 for 31st out of 34 teams at Mohawk Park. They didn’t place at the Sapulpa meet because they only had three runners available.

The varsity boys placed 11th out of 42 teams at the Ram Relays with a time of 36:45.61 and the JV team placed 38th in 47:03.94. The varsity team placed 14th out 17 teams at Sapulpa.

The elementary teams also got to compete at Sapulpa, and both performed well. The girls placed third out of eight teams in the one-mile run, and the boys placed third out of ten teams.

Chloe Grona won the elementary girls run by a 13-second margin in a field of 98 runners, finishing in 6:12.91. Josie Grona placed 11th in 7:07.14, and Sophie Grona placed 33rd in 7:57.61.

The elementary boys were led by Dax Wilcox in 13th place with a time of 6:47.16, followed closely by Landon Durborrow in 16th and Gavin Corbin in 18th.

Ty Davis was the top high school girl, placing 86th out of 139 runners with a two-mile time of 16:58.84. Noah Hanlon led the high school boys in 12:05.61 for 31st out of 143 runners.

Neither junior high team had a full lineup and they were unable to earn a team place. Brynlee Durborow placed sixth out of 136 girls with a one-mile time of 6:12.99. Rafael Huff placed 68th out of 157 boys with a time of 6:46.42.

The Sandites’ next outing will be the Broken Arrow Tigers Meet Saturday, September 12th at Oneta Ridge Middle School, where the varsity teams will run their first 5K of the year.
