CPHS Cross Country: Jazmin Lopez and Varsity Boys place 2nd at Gold Rush Invitational
/The Sand Springs Cross Country program hosted its third annual invitational meet Saturday morning at Case Community Park. Formerly known as the Case Cross Country Invitational, it was renamed the Gold Rush Invitational this year and the boys’ elementary team successfully struck gold with a first place finish.

Griffin Sensintaffar paced the elementary boys with a one-mile time of 5:59.3 to lead a group of 48 runners. Landon Durborrow ran a personal-best 6:33.76 for seventh place, Dax Wilcox had a PR 6:36.52 for ninth place, and Gavin Corbin rounded out the top-ten with a PR 6:48.71. Presley Quinnelly, Jessen Cox, Alex Martin, Dean Earnest, John Selby, and Kai Chambers all set PRs.
The elementary girls placed second in the one-mile run, led by Chloe Grona with a time of 6:48.51 for second place in a field of 62. Josie Grona placed fifth in 6:54.24. London Velasquez, Lexi Boone, and Nola Chambers set PRs.
The varsity boys also placed second in the 5K, with three runners in the top ten. Alejandro Lopez ran a PR 18:46.12 for sixth place out of 62 competitors. Dalton Wilcox was seventh with a PR of 18:47.44, and Sam English finished eighth just two seconds behind Wilcox. Noah Hanlon also set a PR.
The varsity girls were unable to earn a team place due to only having four runners available, but Jazmin Lopez represented the team well with a second-place finish out of 46 runners, running the 5K in 22:55.93.
Neither the boys nor girls had any junior varsity runners, and neither had enough junior high runners to earn a team place. Brynlee Durborow was fourth out of 142 junior high girls in the one-mile run with a PR 5:59.47. Rafael Huff placed 56th out of 151 junior high boys with a PR 6:34.98. Landon Buttram, Colt Cothran, and Koby Hadley all had PRs.
The varsity teams will return to action Thursday at the Oklahoma Baptist University Cross Country Challenge in Shawnee
