CPHS Cross Country: Sandites open season at Owasso and Sapulpa meets

The fall cross country season is officially underway for Charles Page High School, and the Sandites have competed at two events thus far. The Sandites opened the year at the Owasso Ram Charge Relays, and competed at the Sapulpa Chieftain Meet on Saturday.

The Lady Sandite Varsity struggled in their first race of the year, running the six-mile relay in 54:57.54 for 31st out of 34 teams at Mohawk Park. They didn’t place at the Sapulpa meet because they only had three runners available.

The varsity boys placed 11th out of 42 teams at the Ram Relays with a time of 36:45.61 and the JV team placed 38th in 47:03.94. The varsity team placed 14th out 17 teams at Sapulpa.

The elementary teams also got to compete at Sapulpa, and both performed well. The girls placed third out of eight teams in the one-mile run, and the boys placed third out of ten teams.

Chloe Grona won the elementary girls run by a 13-second margin in a field of 98 runners, finishing in 6:12.91. Josie Grona placed 11th in 7:07.14, and Sophie Grona placed 33rd in 7:57.61.

The elementary boys were led by Dax Wilcox in 13th place with a time of 6:47.16, followed closely by Landon Durborrow in 16th and Gavin Corbin in 18th.

Ty Davis was the top high school girl, placing 86th out of 139 runners with a two-mile time of 16:58.84. Noah Hanlon led the high school boys in 12:05.61 for 31st out of 143 runners.

Neither junior high team had a full lineup and they were unable to earn a team place. Brynlee Durborow placed sixth out of 136 girls with a one-mile time of 6:12.99. Rafael Huff placed 68th out of 157 boys with a time of 6:46.42.

The Sandites’ next outing will be the Broken Arrow Tigers Meet Saturday, September 12th at Oneta Ridge Middle School, where the varsity teams will run their first 5K of the year.
