Sandite Wrestling crowns four Champions at Youth State, JV places second at Villareal tournament
/The Keystone Kids youth wrestling team based out of Sand Springs placed 18th out of 94 teams at the Oklahoma Youth Wrestling League State Championship in Oklahoma City this past weekend.
They were 17th in pins, 7th in technical falls, 19th in total match points, and 24th in team win percentage, with a total match record of 61-35. Among teams with fewer than 30 wrestlers they ranked eighth in team points.
Bryher Collins won the Beginner 1 division at 52 pounds with a 4-0 record, three pins and a technical fall. Kasen McAffrey won the Open 3 division at 90 pounds with a 4-0 record and one pin. Creek Shavney won the Beginner 3 division at 73 pounds with a 4-0 record and two pins. Jesse Moore won the Open 5 division at 106 pounds with a 3-0 record, a pin and a tech fall.
Kaden Pope came in runner-up at 73 pounds in Open 4 with a 2-1 record.
Cameron Martin placed third in Open 1 at 43 pounds with a 3-2 record and two pins. Carter Luce placed third in Open 3 at 100 pounds with a 2-2 record and two pins. Zander Grigsby placed third in Open 5 at 76 pounds with a 2-2 record and two pins.
Rylan Hamby placed fourth in Beginner 1 at 52 pounds with a 3-2 record and two pins. Matthew Moore placed fourth at 80 pounds in Open 4 with a 3-1 record and one tech fall.
Wes Wilson placed fifth in Open 2 at 46 pounds with a 2-2 record and one pin. David Ritchey placed fifth in Open 4 at 88 pounds with a 3-2 record and two pins.
Karson Waag placed sixth in Open 2 at 43 pounds with a 1-3 record. Jaxon Grigsby placed sixth in Open 4 at 67 pounds with a 3-3 record, including a pin and a tech fall.
Samuel Moore went 2-2 in Open 3 at 61 pounds with two pins. Joshua Compton went 2-2 in Open 3 at 76 pounds with one pin. Hunter Fields went 2-2 in Open 3 at 80 pounds with one pin.
The Sand Springs Junior High team took 14th place out of 30 teams at the Edmond Junior High Tournament this past weekend with two placers.
Michael Johnson placed fourth at 80 pounds with a 3-2 record. All three of his wins came by pin, and his losses were both by decision. James Robey placed sixth at 170 with a 3-3 record including one pin.
Jayden Pait went 2-2 at 92 with one pin. Cody Cramer went 4-2 at 155 with two pins. Mason Harris went 3-2 at 285 with three pins.
The Sand Springs Junior Varsity team placed second behind the Bartlesville varsity at the Morey Villareal Memorial tournament. They beat out several varsity teams including McLain, Will Rogers, Crossing Christian, Daniel Webster, Metro Christian, Nathan Hale, Hilldale, Douglass, Northwest Classen, and Holland Hall.
Ethan Norton won the 126-pound bracket with a pin and a tech fall. Robbie Parrish won the 220-pound bracket with a 3-0 record and two pins.
Harley Newberry was runner-up at 113 with a 2-1 record, including two pins. Colton Luker was runner-up at 120 with a 2-1 record and two pins. Hunter Hilger was second at 132 with a 1-1 record.
Dakota Taylor went 2-2 at 160 for fourth place with one pin. Santana Naugle went 1-2 at 195 for fourth place.
Jesse Virmontes went 2-2 at 132 for fifth place with one pin. Thomas Naugle was fifth at 195 with a 2-2 record, including one pin and one tech fall. Luke McGehee went 1-3 for 6th place at 120 with one pin.
