CPHS Softball: Sandites win seventh straight, top Ponca City 11-1 on Senior Night
/The Charles Page High School varsity softball team (16-4, 6-0) made quick work of Ponca City (17-9, 2-5) Tuesday evening on Senior Night. The Sandites won their seventh-straight game 11-1 to remain undefeated in district action.
University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma-committed senior Madelyn Blair (7-1, 26-6) got the start and the win on the mound, throwing no hits, no runs, no walks, and four strikeouts in four innings. Mackenzie Bechtold (3-0) gave up two hits and one run in the fifth and final inning.
Sabrina Usher hit her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the first, and Makenna Skaggs hit the first home run of her career in the third. Felicity Horn scored on a ground out by Blair, Kimi Presnell doubled in Cameron Clemons, and Skaggs’s homer brought in Presnell for a 5-0 lead.
Ponca averted the shutout in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Tally Goddard to score Mackenzie Laughlin, but the Sandites piled on six more runs for the run-rule victory.
Jacie Taber hit an RBI double to score Usher, then scored on a double from Horn. Horn scored on a single from Blair, Clemons scored on a ground ball from Elizabeth Luttrell, and Skaggs hit a 2RBI single to score Blair and Presnell.
The Sandites currently lead their district with a 6-0 record, winning all six of those games by a ten-run margin. They have four district games left, two of which will go against Broken Arrow (23-3-2, 5-0).
The Lady Tigers are riding an eight-game win streak, or sixteen-straight if you ignore two tie games at an out-of-state tournament. The two top dogs will meet Thursday at 5:00 p.m. on the Sandites’ home turf.
