CPHS Baseball: Sandites top Midwest City 8-3, drop two to Enid

Garrett McCallie scored two runs against Midwest City.

The Charles Page High School baseball team (1-3, 0-2) is off to a rough start to the 2018 season. After notching their first win over the Midwest City Bombers Saturday afternoon, they dropped back-to-back district battles against the Enid Plainsmen.

Conner Dennis (0-0, 1-0) got the start on the mound, but John Miller (1-0) got the win.

Midwest City (1-3) took a two-run lead into the bottom of the fifth before Lucas Adcock singled in Tyler Ash and Garrett McCallie scored on a ground-out from Ethan Sartin. 

The Sandites took the lead in the sixth inning, loading the bases with a double from Riley Rutledge, a single from Kameron Adcock, and a walk from Ash.

Kyler Copeland singled in courtesy runner Michael Miller, Lucas Adcock walked in Kameron Adock, Cal Watkins walked in Ash, and Ty Steelman doubled to score Garrett McCallie and Lucas Adcock. Watkins scored the final run of the inning on a fly ball from Braden Askew before a double-play ended the melee. 

The Bombers tried to rally in the top of the seventh and scored one more run thanks to an error at the mound. Singles from Kaleb Bedford and Devan Johnson loaded the bases, but Riley Rutledge sealed the victory with a strikeout.

3/5/2018 Enid 4 Sand Springs 1

The Enid Plainsmen (3-0, 2-0) hosted the Sandites on Monday and took an early one-run lead thanks to a pair first-inning errors. Brett Russell scored three more runs for the Plainsmen in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a 2RBI double and scoring on a wild pitch.

Sand Springs loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with a pair of walks and a single from Ash. Askew scored on an error to avert the shutout, but Sartin was put out at first to end the game. 

Askew (0-1, 3-3) got the loss on the mound, pitching seven strikeouts, three hits, and one walk.

3/6/2018 Enid 7 Sand Springs 0

The Plainsmen once again came out swinging with two hits in the top of the first, scoring on an error. Bradan Pierce batted in a run in the second, Colby Jarnagan scored on an error in the fourth, then Russell doubled in another run in the fifth. 

Two walks and a single loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and the Plainsmen scored one on a passed ball and another on a sacrifice. 

Brock Youngblood (0-2, 6-10) got the start and the loss on the mound, pitching four strikeouts and seven hits. Miller pitched two innings and gave up one hit and two walks with one strikeout. 

The Sandites will return to action Friday at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Hilldale High School (1-2) in Muskogee.
