Cheyenne Walden wins ninth Frontier Valley Conference Championship

By: Scott Emigh, Editor-in-Chief

Oklahoma State University-signed senior Cheyenne Walden earned her ninth Frontier Valley Conference title last week at Union High School. She was the only Sandite to take home a conference title, but Aden Baughman took silver while Kristopher Edwards and the Girls' 3200 relay team earned bronze.

Walden placed second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:10.98, just three seconds behind Bartlesville's Rilee Rigdon. She was the defending champion in both the 1600 and 3200. She retained her title in the 3200 with a time of 10:48.23, her fastest time of the season, less than three seconds behind her career-best. Sandite of the Week: Colton Washington takes gold at Stillwater track meet

By: Scott Emigh, Editor-in-Chief

Charles Page High School Long Jumper Colton Washington was selected as Sandite of the Week for his outstanding performance at the Stillwater Pioneer Relays this past week.

Washington set a personal-best at 21'07.50", beating the runner-up by 1'00.75". His previous best was 20'07.00 at last year's Frontier Valley Conference meet.

Breaking the 20' mark at all is impressive. Last year he placed tenth in Regionals with a distance of 19'09.50. His Stillwater performance would have placed him second in last year's Regionals or eighth in the State Championship.

Sandites win five gold medals at best track and field performance in years

By: Scott Emigh, Editor-in-Chief

The Charles Page High School Track and Field teams traveled to Stillwater High School last week and had one of their best performances in years as a team. The boys finished seventh of fifteen teams with three first-place champions, while the girls placed ninth of fifteen with a first-place champion in two events.

Sophomore Aden Baughman won his second-straight 800 meter run with a career-best time of 1:57.38, a full four seconds ahead of the runner-up. Jaelyn Jackson won the 400 meter dash for his first-ever gold metal with a personal-record of 51.94. Colton Washington won the long jump with a PR 21'07.50" for his first ever gold medal.

Oklahoma State University-signed senior Cheyenne Walden won her second-straight 1600 with a time of 5:19.83, three seconds ahead of the runner-up. She also won her nineteenth-straight 3200 with a time of 10:50.81, forty seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Jackson, Baughman, Jacob Garbey, and Ian Baustert continued to impress as the best 3200 relay team the Sandites have boasted in years. They finished in 8:30.05 for fifth place with their best time since the 2013 State Championship team.

Walden, Alexis Davis, Elizabeth Watts, and Tiqvah Soap ran the 3200 relay for the girls and finished seventh with a time of 10:36.55.

Kameron Carpenter placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.66. Joel Mackey placed third in the 200 meter dash with a PR of 23.05, and placed sixth in the 1600 in 4:43.12. Payton Scott placed seventh in the 100 with a time of 11.70. Jacob Smith placed fourteenth in the 3200 with a PR of 10:45.36.

Davis placed eighth in the 3200 with a PR of 12:52.07. Stephanie Genn placed fourteenth in the 400 with a PR 1:07.29. Adrianna Tapp finished eleventh in the 100 with a time of 13.29.
