CPHS Baseball: Sandites top Booker T. Washington 2-0, Ash strikes out five

Cal Watkins scored both runs in a 2-0 win at Booker T. Washington High School.

The Charles Page High School varsity baseball team (22-9) outhit, out-batted, and out-fielded Booker T. Washington High School (15-16) in a non-district 2-0 road victory Thursday night.

Cal Watkins gave his team the lead right out of the gate thanks to a single and a series of mistakes by the Hornets. Watkins took second on an error, third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch for a first inning lead.

Watkins scored the second run as well, once again with help from the Hornets. A walk, a steal, a passed ball, and a sacrifice fly from Ty Steelman brought in the final run of the game. 

Tyler Ash (3-1) got the start and the win on the mound, throwing one hit, five strikeouts, and two walks in four innings. 

Seth Villines (1-0) threw one walk and one strikeout in the fifth inning. Riley Rutledge (1-0) recorded his first save with two strikeouts in the final two innings.

Sand Springs Baseball will return to action Friday at 4:00 p.m. for their final game of the regular season against Southmoore (7-25, 2-8). Senior Night celebrations will follow the game.

CPHS Soccer: Sandites top Capitol Hill 2-0 in final match of the year

Julia Wolf led all Sandites this season with eight goals.

The Charles Page High School varsity soccer teams ended their season Thursday night at Memorial Stadium, hosting Capitol Hill High School from Oklahoma City. The girls' fell 1-0 and ended the year with a 7-7 record while the boys won 2-0 to finish the season 5-9.

Senior forward Jacqueline Martinez scored the lone goal for Capitol Hill in the 36th minute of the match. Neither team scored in the second half and the visitors prevailed 1-0. 

Sophomore Jaden Weiser was the star for the Sandites, playing aggressive throughout the night. His first goal was called offside and Aaron McKnight got the Sandites on the board with only 56 seconds left in the first half. Weiser finally got in the score book just two minutes into the second half, and took several other fantastic shots throughout the remainder of the match. 

Freshman standout Jack Bratcher led all Sandites this season with six goals, followed by Luke Jeffus with five and Weiser with four. McKnight, Weslee Calhoun, and Fernando Saldana scored two goals apiece and Caleb Brooks notched one. 

Sophomore Julia Wolf led the Lady Sandites this year with eight goals, followed by Morgan Poletek with six. Brynlee Slankard, Ari Esparza, Emma Peak, Kylie Taylor, Katie Daniels, Libby Colson, and Jewelia Lahmeyer scored one apiece. 

Sand Springs Soccer will graduate six seniors this season. The girls will lose Lahmeyer, Taylor, Kayla Shuffield, Megan Lambert, and goalkeeper Abigail Banks. The boys will graduate Dylan "Thunder" Hart. Banks will continue her soccer career at Oklahoma City University.

CPHS Track: Boys place sixth at Collinsville Classic with one champion

The Charles Page High School Track and Field teams sent a depleted squad to Collinsville last Friday for the Terry Due Track Classic and crowned one champion.

Malonn Moyer had the best day of his varsity career, setting personal records in both Discus Throw and Shot Put. His 139'09" throw in Discus was enough for a first-place finish with a seven-foot margin of victory over the runner-up. He threw 44'11.00" in shot put for fifth place.

Adrianna Tapp came in runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 13.24 seconds and Tiqvah Soap came in runner-up in the 400 dash in 1:05.74. 

The Lady Sandites' 4x800 relay team had their best time of the season, finishing fourth in 11:20.3. 

Mason Shipman set a personal-record of 16.59 for fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles and Alex Newport placed ninth with a 19.3 PR. Elizabeth Watts placed eighth in the 100-meter Hurdles with a personal-record of 18.32 seconds and fifth in the 300 hurdles.

Caleb James placed third in the 3200 Freshman Run with a PR of 11:45.34 and Jacob Smith placed third in the varsity run in 10:49.56. 

Annaston Wiseley placed fifth in the 800 run with a PR 2:53.80. Danny Murray placed sixth in the 1600 with a PR of 5:07.93.

The Sandite boys placed sixth of ten teams despite missing several runners who were competing at the University of Kansas Relays in Rock Chalk Park.

Aden Baughman placed third in the KU 800 run in 1:57.34 followed by Jaelyn Jackson in 2:04.34 for 27th. Joel Mackey placed fourth in the 100 dash in 11.10. The 4x800 relay team came in seventeenth of 34 team in 8:21.37.

CPHS Tennis: Sandites place fifteenth at Union Invtational

The Charles Page High School varsity tennis teams competed at Union High School last month.

Logan Bateman placed thirteen in #1 Singles with wins over Oklahoma Bible and Metro Christian. Caleb Bundy placed fifteenth in #2 Singles with a win over Metro Christian Academy. Colby Williamson/Dylan Kirk placed sixteenth in #1 Doubles and Aries Howard/Sean Kuehn placed fifteenth in #2 Doubles with a win over Oklahoma Bible. 

Abigail McGeehee placed thirteenth in #1 Singles at the Union Tournament with wins over Stillwater and Booker T. Washington. Delaney Blaylock placed fifteenth in #2 Singles with a win over Enid. Almarez/Milsap placed sixteenth in #1 Doubles, and Blaylock/Smith placed twelfth in #2 Doubles.

 

CPHS Baseball: Sandites throttle Southmoore 12-3, Miller strikes out seven

MOORE - Undefeated first-year pitcher John Miller (5-0) threw a perfect game Tuesday evening at Southmoore with no runs, no hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts in four innings.

The Charles Page High School varsity baseball team (21-9, 7-4) throttled the Sabercats (7-24, 2-8) in a 12-3 district road game. 

Braden Askew (4-3) got the start and tossed four hits, three walks, and one strikeout in the first three innings. Miller inherited a 3-2 deficit and the Sandites took the final lead in the top of the fourth.

Sand Springs was the first team on the board with an RBI single from Kyler Copeland in the second inning, then Riley Rutledge scored on a wild pitch in the third.

Southmoore loaded the bases with two walks and a double in the bottom of the third, and took the lead with singles from Jacob Chairess and Lincoln Lehew.

Braden Millican tied it up on a passed ball and Kameron Adcock singled in Malachi Burks for the lead. Cal Watkins tripled to score Adcock and came in on a hit by Rutledge to make it 6-3. 

Kameron Adcock batted in Millican with a sacrifice fly and Ty Steelman singled in Lucas Adcock in the top of the fifth. Askew singled to score Watkins in the sixth. Rutledge singled in Millican in the seventh, and Askew singled in Rutledge and Tyler Ash for the final runs of the game.

Tyler Rolke got the start and the loss for Southmoore, giving up six hits, six runs, and four walks against four strikeouts in a little over three innings. Jordan Howerton took over with two outs in the fourth and threw three hits, one strikeout, and one walk for three runs. Laif Bradshaw pitched the final two innings for four hits, three runs, and two strikeouts.

The Sandites have two regular-season games left. They will travel to Booker T. Washington (15-15) Thursday at 5:00 p.m. for a non-district game, and will wrap up district play Friday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Southmoore for Senior Night.

CPHS Softball: Slow-Pitch season ends in shootout at No. 3 Southmoore

The Charles Page High School Slow-Pitch Softball team ended their season Tuesday afternoon in Moore, falling 11-0 and 14-9 to Class 6A No. 3 ranked Southmoore in a three-game series for the Regional Championship.

The Lady Sandites ended the year ranked No. 17 in Class 6A with a 9-12 record and several quality wins. 

Southmoore jumped out to an early lead with six hits and a walk for a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Sand Springs stranded two runners in the top of the second and the Sabercats came in to take a 7-0 lead with home runs from Mikayla Smith and Karli Petty. 

Sabrina Usher scored Elizabeth Luttrell on a homer to get Sand Springs on the board in the top of the third, then Analisia Aguilar sent one over the center field fence for Southmoore.

The Sandites stranded two more in the top of the fourth and Kylie Janzen scored two on a homer in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-2.

Makenna Skaggs singled to score Kimi Presnell in the top of the fifth, then came in on a double from Jensen Arnold. The Sandites then stranded two Sabercat runners in the bottom of the inning for their only shutout inning of the game. 

In the top of the sixth Jacie Taber reached on an error, and Felicity Horn and Cameron Clemons singled to load the bases. Luttrell, Presnell, Usher, and Skaggs all batted in runs to close the game to a one run deficit at 10-9.

The Sabercats were ready with a melee of their own in the bottom of the inning, making it 14-9 with a home run from Savannah Brewer. Sand Springs recorded three hits in the top of the seventh but stranded two runners to end the game.
