The No. 1 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team (10-0) continued its undefeated streak with a 66-0 victory over 3A No. 5 Vian (16-5) in the third round of the Ram Duals in Owasso. This is their fourth shutout this season.

The Sandites defeated Midwest City 69-9 in the first round, then had a bye, while Vian fell 57-18 to No. 12 Claremore (7-2) in round one and defeated Springdale 37-33 in round two.

The Sandites got off to yet another fast start as Michael Ritchey (23-8 season, 52-32 career) pinned Taylor Knotts in 1:04, Blake Sargent (23-8, 75-22) pinned Christian Jones in 1:17, and  Daton Fix (30-0, 148-0) and Jack Karstetter (16-1, 89-16) both received forfeits.

Things got competitive at 145 as Beau Bratcher (26-6, 117-29) took on Whitt Fletcher. The Sandite got off to a good start with a takedown and nearfall for a 5-0 first period lead, then reversed to make it 7-0 early in the second. Then he hurt his elbow and was only able to hold on for the duration without scoring or being scored on.

Payton Scott (25-1, 46-9) pinned Kanton Washington in 0:15 and Mikey Burns (4-3) pinned Gunnar Griffith in 1:02 before there was another tough match. Zane Basma (14-2, 76-27) took on River Simon at 170 and prevailed 7-3 to make the team score 42-0.

Freshman Hayden Cramer (6-3) had a close call against Kade Cato that went into overtime, but Cramer came out on top of a 10-8 sudden victory decision. Gage Fain (20-9, 33-31) won a 10-5 decision over Robert Reason, and the teams double-forfeited 220.

Delvin Jordan (28-2, 59-14) wrestled up to heavyweight and took on Lance Leif for his twenty-second pin of the season, this time in 0:20. Back at 106 Riley Weir (25-6, 46-18) received a forfeit, then Tanner Ward (21-8, 97-20) pinned Jake Coffee in 1:42 to complete the shutout, 66-0.

The Sandites will return to action in round four against Sprindale. Springdale had a bye in the first round before falling to Vian and 60-15 to Claremore.

Three duals wins and 42 match wins wasn't enough for the No. 1 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team (9-0), so after steamrolling their way through Thursday night's district duals, the Sandites set off for the tough Owasso Ram Duals tournament the next morning. The Sandites are ranked fifteenth in the nation and it showed as they handed Midwest City (2-6) their biggest loss of the season, 69-9.

When the dual began, it was clear the Sandites were still in their pinning mood from the night before. Riley Weir (24-6 season, 45-18 career) took down Ernesto Rico de Chavez in 1:18 and Tanner Ward (20-8, 96-20) received a forfeit. Michael Ritchey (22-8, 51-32) worked up a 13-0 lead over Eric Vidal before pinning the Bomber in 2:12 to make the team score 18-0.

Midwest City had an ace in the hole with three-time State Qualifier Drew Wilson, however, who narrowly overcame Blake Sargent (22-8, 74-22) with a 7-4 decision that was 5-4 with Sargent working towards a pin before Wilson reversed with 15 seconds left.

Daton Fix (29-0, 147-0) got things back on track with a pin of Marquez Edwards in 2:45. Jack Karstetter (15-1, 88-16) pinned Marion King in 0:54, Beau Bratcher (25-6, 116-29) received a forfeit, then Payton Scott (24-1, 45-9) overcame State Qualifier RJ Walker by a close 5-3 decision. From there on, every match was a pin.

Noah Almy (15-12,) took down Aaron Crutison in 1:06, Zane Basma (13-2, 75-27) pinned Jonathan Sutter in 0:35, Hayden Cramer (5-3) pinned Jordan Jones in 3:17, Gage Fain (19-9, 32-31) pinned Brandon Hardin in 1:55, and Delvin Jordan (27-2, 58-14) pinned Siera Laviolette in 0:27.

The Bombers picked up a fall at heavyweight as No. 6 ranked Ryan Tilbury took down Dominique Pipes (0-3, 0-5) in 3:18, but the dual had long since been won. 

The Sandites are enjoying a bye-round right now, but will return to action in round three against 3A No. 5 Vian (15-3). In round four they will battle Sprindale, Arkansas, and in round five they will take on No. 12 Claremore (6-2). The bracketed duals will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

The No. 1 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team (8-0) demonstrated Thursday why they're not only the top team in Oklahoma, but are also ranked fifteenth in the nation. Hosting Putnam City West (2-6), Enid (2-7), and No. 18 U.S. Grant (4-4), the Sandites won 42 consecutive matches to outscore their opponents by a cumulative 245-0. Not only did they not give up a single team point, but they beat all three teams in a cumulative 59:51, whereas a single dual with no pins or technical falls would last 1:24:00.

Michael Ritchey (21-8 season, 50-32 career) got off to a fast start, taking a 12-2 lead after the first period and ultimately defeated Hunter McGee by 19-3 technical fall in only 3:08.

Blake Sargent (22-7, 74-21)  was next on the mat and he pinned his opponent in 1:03 starting off yet another team pin streak. Daton Fix (28-0, 146-0) pinned Cameron Arrington in 0:35, Jack Karstetter (14-1, 87-16) pinned Tyler Reese in 1:10. Beau Bratcher (24-6, 115-29) pinned Chase Masterson in 0:23.

Payton Scott (23-1, 44-9) had a tough opponent in Austin Loza, but took a 7-1 lead before pinning him in 2:33. Noah Almy (14-12) took down Logan Griffin in 0:27 and Zane Basma (12-2, 74-27) pinned Gavin Morse in 1:41 after leading 12-4.

Hayden Cramer (4-3) topped Seth Miner in 1:58, Gage Fain (18-9, 31-31) pinned his opponent in 0:48 and Delvin Jordan (26-2, 57-14) finished his foe in 0:44.

Kris Edwards (3-0) had one of the toughest opponents of the night and won the only close decision of the evening. They stalemated through the first period and Edwards took a 1-0 lead after a second period escape then added a takedown soon after. With only two seconds left the Plainsman reversed, but Edwards got the 3-2 victory.

Riley Weir (23-6, 44-18) breezed through his opponent and led 12-1 after the first, then added another takedown and nearfall points for a 17-1 tech fall in only 2:40. Tanner Ward (19-8, 95-20) ended the evening with a pin in 1:39. 

The Sandites are now officially heading back to Dual State this February at Firelake Arena in Shawnee. Last season the Sandites finished as runners-up, falling 41-18 to Choctaw. Before they get a chance to avenge that loss, they'll first have to get past some seriously tough competition this weekend at the Owasso Ram Duals.

No. 1 Sandite wrestling defeats Putnam City West 82-0 with 12 pins

Just an hour after unofficially setting the national record for fastest dual win with fourteen pins, the Sandites nearly did the same thing to their next opponent.

The No. 1 ranked Sand Springs wrestling team (7-0) hosted three other schools Thursday night at the Ed Dubie Field House for district dual night. They pinned the entire U.S. Grant team in a cumulative 14 minutes and 2 seconds in the first dual, unofficially topping a 20-year old record by five seconds.

According to Wrestling USA Magazine, the fastest ever time for a fourteen-match dual won entirely by pin was 14:07, set in 1997 by Marquette, Michigan. Though the record won't be official unless Head Coach Kelly Smith or Athletic Director Rod Sitton begin an application process with Wrestling USA Magazine, the Sandites can be proud just knowing they did it. 

In the second dual of the night, the Sandites took on Putnam City West (2-6) and for a while it looked like they might be trying to beat the record all over again. 

Tanner Ward (18-8 season, 94-20 career) pinned Yanni Ellis in 0:33. Michael Ritchey (20-8, 49-32) pinned his opponent in 3:36. Blake Sargent (21-7, 73-21) took an 8-0 lead over Landon Loudermilk before pinning him in 2:46.

Then the Sandites really got aggressive. Daton Fix (27-0, 145-0) pinned Chandler Tolton in 0:21. Jack Karstetter (13-1, 86-16) pinned his opponent in 0:04, matching a national record set by Blair Renfrow (Glynn Academy, Brunswick, Georgia) in 2003. Beau Bratcher (23-6, 114-29) pinned Matthew Hart in 0:17, and Payton Scott (22-1, 43-9) pinned Addison Sutton in 0:06. 

The pinning streak finally came to a close at the 160 pound match as Noah Almy (13-12) won a 16-6 major decision over Terrel Garrett, but Zane Basma (11-2, 73-27) started things right back up again with a 0:04 pin of Chance Strickland, matching the national record set by Robert Scavage (Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania) in 1969.

Hayden Cramer (3-3) continued things with a pin of Eric Guzman in 1:16. Gage Fain (17-9, 30-31) worked up a 6-1 lead over Ahmauriahn Romby before pinning him in 2:37. Delvin Jordan (25-2, 56-14) pinned Jose Silva in 0:44 after leading 11-2. Kris Edwards (2-0) pinned Junior Martinez in 2:36 and Riley Weir accepted a forfeit to conclude the 82-0 shutout victory. 

The Sandites have one dual left for the evening and will battle Enid (2-6) for their ticket to Dual State in Shawnee. 

No. 1 Sandite wrestling pins entire U.S. Grant team in 14 minutes

Last year the Sand Springs wrestling team went viral after pinning the entire Putnam City West team in only 13 minutes and 14 seconds. They beat their record Thursday evening at the Ed Dubie Field House.

In the first round of the District Duals, the No. 1 ranked Sandites (6-0) took on No. 18 U.S. Grant (4-4) and pinned all fourteen opponents in a total of 14 minutes and 2 seconds, for an average match time of 60.14 seconds. Last year they only wrestled thirteen matches and receive one forfeit. Their average match that year was 61.09 seconds.

The 84-0 shutout was their biggest win of the year, and the highest score a wrestling dual can reach.

Sophomore Riley Weir (21-6 season, 42-18 career) pinned Jose Garcia in 0:35 to start things off. Next up was Tanner Ward (17-8, 93-20) with a pin of Darian Martinez in 0:33. Senior Michael Ritchey (19-8, 48-32) got his first pin of the season in 0:23 against Dylan Alford.

Cameron Lozano managed to make it to the second period before being pinned in 2:55 by Blake Sargent (20-7, 72-21), who was leading 10-0 at the time.

Oklahoma State-commit Daton Fix (26-0, 144-0) worked up a 10-1 lead on Tavayon Barber before finishing him off in 1:27. Jack Karstetter (12-1, 85-16) pinned David Ibarra in 0:45. Beau Bratcher (22-6, 113-29) pinnedValente Aldana in 0:37. Payton Scott (21-1, 42-9) worked up a 9-1 lead over Jamil Carolina before finishing him off in 1:00.

Noah Almy (12-12) pinned Keon Love in 1:02. Zane Basma (10-2, 72-27) pinned Jose Esparza in 0:31. Freshman Hayden Cramer (2-3) pinned Devin Izydor in 0:47.

Max Herrera made it to the second period against Gage Fain (16-9, 29-31) and trailed 7-2 before being pinned in 2:31.

Delvin Jordan (24-2, 55-14) had the fastest pin of the night, taking down Ibrahim Serrano in 0:09. Jordan also leads the team in pins this season with 18. Finally Kris Edwards (1-0) made his varsity debut at heavyweight and pinned Malik McGee in 0:47.

The Sandites will be also be wrestling Enid (2-6) and Putnam City West (2-5) tonight in a triple header. The team with the best record for the evening will advance to dual state.

Frontier Valley Conference Men's Basketball Standings, Week Nine

The 2016-2017 season is well under way and the Frontier Valley Conference is as competitive as ever. Eight out of ten FVC teams are ranked within their divisions and the Union Redskins are currently the undefeated unanimous pick as the No. 1 team in the state. They are also the only remaining team undefeated in conference play. The FVC is currently ranked third out of the five 6A conferences in overall strength.

No. 1 Union (12-0, 6-0) holds the best defense in the whole state, allowing only 48 points per game, on average. They have the third-ranked offense in the conference and win by an average of 15.8 points. In the last two weeks they have topped Bishop Kelley 65-42, Owasso 62-39, and Muskogee 78-42. SMU-commit Ethan Chargois scored 22 against both Kelley and Muskogee, but sat out Owasso with a hand injury. In that game Mo Garcia stepped up to lead the team with 20 points. 

No. 9 Muskogee (8-2, 5-1) holds the second-best offense in the conference and the fourth-highest margin of victory. In the last two weeks they have topped Sand Springs 47-42 and Jenks 85-59, but were just hammered 78-42 by Union in what was expected to be a somewhat close match. Brooks Haddock has been the consistent top dog this season and posted 27 against Jenks, but could only muster a team-best 12 against the Redskins. Tyreece Berry has been back in action since the new year and led the team with 18 against Sand Springs. 

No. 13 Sapulpa (7-2, 4-1) has the top-rated offense in the conference, averaging more than 68 points per game. Both of their conference games this year have been close ones, 59-57 over Broken Arrow and 72-68 over Sand Springs. Keenan Balance led the Chieftains to a come-from-behind victory over their archrivals from Sand Springs with 23 points, closely followed by Keenan Balance with 21. Balance also posted a team-best 20 points against Broken Arrow.

No. 11 Broken Arrow (8-4, 4-2) holds the second-best offense in the conference, third in the state, allowing only 49.1 points per game for the third-best margin of victory in the FVC. The Tigers have had a tough start to 2017, falling 59-57 to Sapulpa and only topping Jenks 46-38 in a game that saw the entire starting line benched by a frustrated head coach. Make no mistake, the powerhouse program is still a solid contender for the conference title if they can over come Muskogee next week. 

No. 19 Bartlesville (6-5, 3-2) is middle of the pack both offensively and defensively, but has still managed to come out on top more often than not. The Bruins fell 76-68 to Bixby in triple overtime last week and had their game against Sapulpa canceled due to weather, but got back in the win column Tuesday with a 64-57 victory over Bishop Kelley. Barron Tanner has been the top dog in both of the last two games, scoring 23 against Bixby and 28 against Kelley. 

5A No. 14 Bishop Kelley (4-6, 2-4) has done a good job keeping up with the 6A public school competitors, but dropped both of their last two conference games. The Comets hold the fourth-best defense in the FVC, but fell 65-42 to Union and 64-57 to Bartlesville. Ryan Gendron posted 18 against Bartlesville, closely followed by Alex Woodruff with 17. 

No. 16 Owasso (7-5, 2-4) got off to a rough start with four straight losses to start the season, but have been making a solid comeback since the new year. After topping 5A No. 6 East Central (8-5) and No. 8 Booker T. Washington (9-3) to sweep the Skiatook Invitational, the Rams returned to conference play with a bang. They defeated Jenks 66-52 and Bixby 62-50, but fell 62-39 to Union. Jake Thompson posted 10 against both Jenks and Union, with 15 against Bixby. Josh Proctor led the team with 16 against Jenks and 13 against Bixby. Courtre led against Bixby with 17 and also had 12 against Jenks. 

Bixby (5-7, 2-4) won a 76-68 triple-overtime shootout with Bartlesville, but fell 76-71 to Sand Springs and 62-50 to Owasso. Will Fiser scored 17 against Bartlesville, 22 against Sand Springs, and 11 against Owasso. 

No. 18 Sand Springs (6-6, 1-5) notched their first conference win with a 76-71 performance against Bixby, but fell 47-42 to Muskogee and 72-68 to Sapulpa after leading for most of the game. The Sandites have the fourth-best offense and third-best defense in the conference. Colt Savage posted 20 against Muskogee and Sapulpa and 34 against Bixby. Jacob Garbey had 21 against Bixby and Kyle Keener had 21 against Sapulpa. 

Jenks (1-9, 0-6) is still looking for their first conference win, despite a 21-point performance from Cole Surrett against Owasso and a 17-point performance from Eli Harris against Broken Arrow. The Trojans fell 66-52 to Owasso, 85-59 to Muskogee, and 46-38 to Broken Arrow.
