Charles Page High School played host to its biggest rival in a district battle Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium. The Lady Sandites fell 2-0 to the Lady Chieftains, but the boys dominated Sapulpa 5-0 for their biggest win of the season.

The Sandites (5-7 overall, 1-4 district) notched their first district win with an exclamation mark, steamrolling their biggest rivals (3-9, 0-5).

Senior midfielder Logan Jeffus scored his fifth goal of the season to draw first blood in the 18th minute, and the Sandites took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Edgar Soberano got the start at goalie and notched four saves in the first half before coming out with an injury. He was replaced by sophomore Ethan Tippit.

The Sandites came out pumped up after halftime and struck paydirt in the 55th minute with a penalty kick from Oklahoma Wesleyan University-signed senior Ignacio Garcia. Just three minutes later, sophomore Kaleb Brooks scored his first goal of the season.

Garcia was a man on fire, taking more shots than the rest of his team combined. It paid off as he ended up with his first brace of the season, notching a goal in the 74th minute.

Alex Hernandez also got in on the action, scoring his second goal of the year on a free kick in the 76th minute.

The Lady Sandites (1-11 overall, 0-5 district) fell 2-0 to the Lady Chieftains (6-6, 2-3). Freshman midfielder Sara Arundell scored both goals for Sapulpa.

The Charles Page School girls soccer team (1-9, 0-3) came into their matchup with Jenks High School (7-3, 2-1) having fallen in each of their first two district games. The Lady Sandites fell 2-1 to Putnam City North (6-6, 1-4) with Madison Metcalfe scoring her first goal of the season. Enid High School (5-5, 2-1) defeated the Sandite girls as well 4-0. The woes would continue against Jenks as they fell by a final score of 9-1.

The Lady Trojans got things going early, nearly scoring in the 1st minute when a header off of a corner kick struck post. The Lady Sandite defense was able to keep the game scoreless until the 14th minute when Haley Ledford scorched a ball from well outside the box for the 1-0 advantage. A goal from Ashlynn Kitterman and a deflected own goal made the score 3-0 in favor of visiting Jenks.

The Sand Springs offense showed signs of life before the half. Megan Deshazo would get Sand Springs on the board with their lone goal in the 34th minute on a penalty kick and at the half the lead was just 3-1.

The Lady Trojans were having none of the Sand Springs comeback however, netting 6 goals in a 16 minute span before substituting, led by a brace from Senior Nayeli Perez.

The Lady Sandites will return to action on Friday when they face Westmoore High School (5-6, 2-1) at 6:00pm.

CPHS Soccer: Girls fall 3-0 to Booker T. Washington in district debut

The Charles Page High School Girls' Soccer team (1-6 overall, 0-1 district) traveled to Booker T. Washington High School (4-3, 1-0) for their first district game of the season and fell by 3-0 shutout.

The Lady Sandites were still recovering from an injury-laden tournament this past weekend and were missing their head coach due to a red card from the previous game.

Sand Springs was unable to muster enough offense to keep up with the Hornets, who out shot the Sandites nineteen to five. Junior goalkeeper Abigail Banks saved five of eight shots on goal.

The Ladies will return to action Friday at 6:00 p.m. in a non-district road game against Enid (1-6).

In the third-place match Saturday night, the host team took a quick 3-0 lead in the first half with goals from Bella Blake and Alyssa Henderson and a penalty kick from Henderson.

Kyndal Zicker got the Lady Sandites on the scoreboard shortly before halftime with an assist from Megan Deshazo.

The Lady Sandites battled hard in the second half, out-shooting the Pioneers eleven to four, but the Stillwater goalie pulled in all five on-goal attempts to keep the Sandites scoreless. A pair of Sandite starters went down with injuries and Head Coach Matt Miller was red-carded after protesting a perceived no-call, leaving the team flustered and short on man-power.

The backfield was a strong point for the team, giving up only four shots in the second half, but with an out-manned front line they were unable to catch up. Junior goalie Abigail Banks hauled in five saves in the game.

The Charles Page High School Girls' Soccer team (1-4) suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of undefeated Coweta (4-0) in the Stillwater Cup semifinals, with the lone Sandite goal coming from senior forward Megan Deshazo.

The teams were fairly evenly matched through the first half. Coweta brought a heavy offense with nine shots to the Sandites' four, but keeper Abigail Banks was a solid oak, hauling in five saves. She gave up one goal in the 26th minute to sophomore forward Maranda Ritter, but Deshazo tied it up with two minutes left to enter the half tied 1-1.

The second half was an entirely different picture, however, as the Lady Tigers took a quick lead with a goal in the 48th minute from Breanna Sweetin, assisted by Callie Rucker. Just two minutes later Kenzie Applegate scored on an assist by Ritter. Applegate made it a brace in the 57th minute, then Sweetin earned her brace in the 73rd.

Banks pulled in a pair of saves before the Sandites were finally able to get downfield. Sand Springs got off a few shots on free kicks, but keeper Haley Bandy pulled in her second and third saves of the evening. Madison Metcalfe took the final shot of the evening with five minutes left, but once again Bandy was impenetrable.

The Tigers, who have won their four games this season by an average score of 5-1, will play in the Championship round against Verdigris (4-1) who defeated Stillwater (2-4) 3-2 in overtime penalty kicks. That game will be played at 7:00 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium.

Sand Springs will play for third place against Stillwater at 7:00 p.m. on Colvin Recreational Field at Oklahoma State University. Before losing to Verdigris, Stillwater defeated Will Rogers High School (2-3) 10-0 in the quarterfinals.

The Sand Springs Boys will are also playing in the tournament and will compete for fifth place at 5:20 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium.

The Charles Page High School Girls' Soccer team (1-3) notched their first win of the season in the first round of the Stillwater Cup against the Enid Pacers (0-3). Junior goalie Abigail Banks recorded her first clean-sheet of the season with eight saves over the course of the match.

The Sandites struggled with a heavy 20 mph headwind throughout the first half and were limited to four shots on goal. Two missed outright, one was deflected by the Enid keeper, and one sailed true but was nullified as kicker Kyndal Zicker was ruled offside. Enid took advantage of their strong tailwind and kept the Sandites on their end of the field for the majority of the half, racking up 11 shots. Most were well off target, but Banks did pick up four saves.

The two teams entered the second half scoreless, but the Sandites were no longer at odds with the weather and played a far more aggressive offense.

Enid still made plenty of plays and got off eight shots, but couldn't press nearly as hard as they did in the first half. Sand Springs finally got on the scoreboard in the 49th minute with a goal from Slovakian foreign exchange student Eliska Dodokova.

Kyndal Zicker added another goal just three minutes later, then made it a brace in the 62nd minute. The Lady Sandites eased up from there, taking only two more shots over the remainder of the match. Banks picked up four saves in the second half as well and the Sandites secured their first win of the season, 3-0.

Sand Springs will return to action Saturday at 10:40 a.m. against the winner of Ponca City (3-0) vs Coweta (2-0). That match will be played at Oklahoma State University's Colvin Recreation Fields on the southeast field. The winner of that match will play in the finals at 7:00 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium, while the loser will play for third place at 7:00 p.m. at Colvin Fields.
