CPHS Softball: Sandites run-rule Sapulpa twice, Clemons hits grand slam
/Sand Springs swept a Highway 97 Rivalry double-header against Sapulpa Thursday afternoon, winning both games by run-rule.
Class 6A No. 14 ranked Charles Page High School (6-8) needed only three innings for a 17-5 win against No. 17 Sapulpa (6-8) in the first game and followed it up with a 15-5 victory in four innings in game two.
The visiting Sapulpans struck first with a solo home run from Kaylyn Hearon in the top of the second. That lead wouldn’t last long however as the Sandites buried them under sixteen runs in the bottom of the inning.
Madelyn Blair singled and walked in a run after three-straight walks. Rachel Jones batted in Makenna Skaggs and Felicity Horn. Kimi Presnell doubled to bring in Cameron Clemons and Jones. Then came the lumberjacks.
Sabrina Usher hit the first of many home runs. Jacie Taber scored on an error. Skaggs scored Blair and Elizabeth Luttrell with a homer, Clemons scored Horn with a homer, Usher scored Jones with a homer, and Jensen Arnold scored Jacie Taber on a double for a 16-1 lead.
Justise Wade scored Kali Husman and Alexis Cahwee scored Jessica Hobbs in the top of the third. Sapulpa loaded the bases with an error and Blakely Alden doubled to bring in Wade and Cahwee to make it 16-5 before the inning came to a close.
Horn secured the twelve-run victory for the Sandites in the bottom of the third with a double to score Blair. Jensen Arnold got the win on the mound.
The Chieftains had lots of opportunity in game two, but stranded loaded bases in the top of the first inning. Instead, it Jensen Arnold with the single to score Usher for the opening run. Usher scored on a hit from Jensen Arnold, Arnold scored on a hit from Blair, and Luttrell scored on a hit from Horn.
Clemons stole the show with her second home run of the afternoon, a grand slam scoring Blair, Skaggs, and Horn for a 7-0 lead.
The visitors made their way onto the scoreboard in the top of the second, loading the bases with two singles and a walk. Hearon singled in Trinity Mosquito, Husman, and Sierra Squires.
Usher hit her third home run of the day to score Madison Lee in the bottom of the second, then Mackenzie Hughes homered to score Wade in the top of the third.
Luttrell hit a lead off homer in the bottom of the third. Kinsey Skaggs singled in Horn, then Madison Lee scored Clemons and Skaggs to make it 13-5.
Usher, Taber, and Arnold hit singles to load the bases in the bottom of the fourth, then Luttrell hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Usher. Blair secured the victory with a single to score Taber. Luttrell got the win on the mound in game two.
Sand Springs softball will return to action Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. with a road game against No. 2 Union (15-3). Sapulpa will host No. 10 Jenks (13-6) Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
