CPHS Basketball: Armstead scores 21, Sandites roll Rams 65-41

Journey Armstead and Hailey Jackson combined for 40 points Tuesday evening in Owasso as the Charles Page High School girls’ basketball team rolled to a 65-41 win over the Rams (1-11, 0-6). The Class 6A No. 13 ranked Lady Sandites (5-5, 3-3) took down their former Head Coach, Tobey Nightingale, who is in her first season at Owasso after leaving Sand Springs two years ago.

Josh Berry’s Sandites are now 3-0 against Owasso during his tenure. They never trailed Tuesday, taking the lead right out of the gate with a three-pointer from Sakauri Wilson. Chloe Stocksen returned the favor to tie it, but Jackson hit a layup and they never relinquished the lead again.

The Sandites led 17-11 after the first quarter and 27-18 at the half, despite giving the backups ample playing time. Three freshmen saw game minutes, Victory Johnson made her varsity debut, and eight Sandites scored points. Armstead scored eight of the team’s ten points in the second quarter and they led 27-15 before Alexis Winton hit a half-court buzzer-beater to end the stanza.

Armstead scored a game-best 21 points, closely followed by Jackson with a career-high 19 points and seven steals. Jackson went down with an apparent knee injury in the third quarter, but returned later in the game to put up eight more points.

The fourth quarter was the most explosive for both teams, but the Sandites won the shootout 24-15. Stocksen was the top-scorer for Owasso, and the only Ram in double digits, with 12 points.

Both teams will return to action Thursday at the 55th Annual Port City Classic in Catoosa. Sand Springs will play Bishop Kelley (3-8) at 1:00 p.m. and the Rams will play Victory Christian (4-5) at 7:00 p.m.
