CPHS Softball: Sandites drop 2-1 decision to Oologah

The Charles Page High School softball team (23-5) hosted a top-notch 4A contender Thursday evening and suffered a 2-1 loss to Oologah-Talala (24-3). The Mustangs won their 19th-straight game behind a two-hit, seven-strikeout pitching performance from Missouri State University-commit Kenzie Chacon, who held the Sandites to their lowest hitting performance of the season.

The game went scoreless till the fifth inning when Morgan Bement and Raigan McKee hit singles. Bement scored on an error and McKee stole home for the 2-0 lead. Drew Hawkins hit a triple in the bottom of the inning and scored on an error.

Oologah stranded four runners over the course of the game and Sand Springs stranded three. Aliyah Taff (16-5, 33-19) took the loss for the Sandites, tossing six hits, one strikeout, and one walk.

The Mustangs are in pursuit of their third-straight State Tournament berth and fourth-straight 30-win season. Sand Springs needs just one more win for its best record since 2016, and is looking to make the State Tournament for the sixth-straight year.

Sand Springs will host Enid Thursday, October 8th at 12:00 p.m. in the first round of their Regional Tournament. Oologah will host Coweta (28-3) Monday at 5:00 p.m. in their last game of the regular season.
