CPHS Softball: Sandites beat Jenks 2-1 on the road
/Charles Page High School has been playing championship-level softball lately. The varsity fast pitch team is 22-4 on the season, their best mark since at least 2012, and is riding a six-game win streak in district action. Their last district loss was 5-0 to Shawnee, and they paid that one back 6-3 last week. Their only other district loss was 8-4 to Jenks, and they avenged that one 2-1 Thursday evening on the Trojans’ home field.
The Sandites came away with six hits in the game, but stranded five runners and didn’t score the go-ahead run till the top of the seventh. Jenks also stranded five runners in the game, including two in the bottom of the final inning.
Madison Lee, batting a team-best .580 this season, hit a lead-off double and scored on a double from Jolee McNally on the next play. Jenks tied it in the bottom of the second after Kayla Adams reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a ground out from Avery Brewer.
Avery Tanner and Brooklyn Harper hit singles in the seventh, and Olivia Alexander brought in Tanner with a double for the final score. The Trojans got a pair of walks in the bottom of the inning, but Raegan Rector caught a fly ball in right field to end the game.
Aliyah Taff (15-4, 32-18) earned her fourth-straight win in the pitcher’s circle with four hits, two strikeouts, and three walks in seven innings. Emma Lang took the loss with six hits, six strikeouts, and two walks.
The road win solidified the Sandites’ position at No. 2 in the District 6A-3 standings, behind Shawnee, and ahead of Owasso. Owasso is their next and final district opponent, and they will play the Rams Tuesday on the road. They previously beat Owasso 3-0 last week. If they repeat the win, it’ll clinch a District Runner-Up finish and home Regional Tournament.
