CPHS Wrestling: Collinsville spoils Sandite Homecoming 34-15
/The defending State Champions from Class 5A No. 2 ranked Collinsville (4-0) continued their undefeated start to the season, spoiling the Sandites’ Homecoming. 6A No. 7 Charles Page High School wrestling (3-2) won five matches in a 34-15 loss Thursday evening at the Ed Dubie Field House. Prior to the dual, Avery Wallace was named Homecoming Queen.
The teams double-forfeited 106 and Brendon Wiseley (12-4, 64-24) scored a 6-0 decision over Clay Gates, but that would be the Sandites’ only lead of the night. Troy Spratley and State Champion Jordan Williams recorded pins to make it 12-3 before Seth Jones (15-4, 59-33) won a 3-2 decision over Garrett Strickland.
Sand Springs would win only three more matches: a 3-0 decision by Preston Medlin (5-7, 18-29) over Blake Gikey at 145 pounds, a 2-0 decision by Brooks Dudley (10-8, 20-16) over Gabe Lyons at 195, and a 6-1 decision by Josh Fincannon (13-5, 52-39) over Zach Morris at 285.
The Sandites only lost eight matches, and only gave up three pins to hold the undefeated Cardinals to their lowest-scoring dual of the season. Collinsville scored 46 or more in their first three duals.
The Cardinals will return to action next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. with a district triple-header against Nathan Hale (1-4), Bishop Kelley (1-1), and No. 20 Edison (1-1). Sand Springs will compete at the Cushing Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
