Youth Wrestling: Eight Sandites win gold at Team Big Tournament

The Sand Springs Team Big wrestling club made a strong showing at their recent home tournament, crowning eight champions and winning eleven brackets at Clyde Boyd Middle School. 

Junior

Skylar Galloway (2-1) placed second in Freestyle at 132 pounds, teching Madison Dekker 14-3 and Jared Davis 13-0 before falling 10-0 to Jakob Lyons.

Camrin Pfluger (2-1) placed second in Freestyle at 160 pounds, pinning Michael Kirmer in 0:40 and Dalton Mitchell in 3:52 before falling 10-0 to Tate Picklo.

Cadet

Christian Forbes (3-0 FS, 4-0 GR) won both styles at 106 pounds. He dominated the Greco bracket, pinning Kaden Smith in 3:40, Bronson Burcham in 0:39, and Trent Clements in 0:18. In Freestyle he teched Jayce Caviness 11-0 and Noah Agcaoili 10-0 and defeated Tristan Stafford 6-2.

Kaden Glass (2-0 FS, 4-0 GR) won both styles at 182 pounds. In Freestyle he pinned Coleman Lecoq in 1:23 and teched Emmanuel Skillings 11-0. In Greco he teched Bryce Jackson and Brayden Dillow, and pinned Tristan Wolfer in 0:18 and William Martin in 1:37.

Schoolboy

Ethan White (17-5 FS, 5-2 GR) won both styles at 136 pounds. He teched Jance Sommers 10-0 in both styles, pinned Sean Mahoney in under a minute in both styles, and defeated Kaleb Owen 10-3 in Freestyle.

Abraham Flores (5-0 FS, 5-1 GR) placed first in Freestyle and second in Greco at 125 pounds. In Freestyle he won a best-of-three series against Ryan Tricket 14-2 and 7-2, and defeated Tricket 14-2 in Greco as well.

Bryce Fisher (15-1) smoked the Freestyle competition at 149 pounds, scoring 10-0 technical falls against Clay Lewis, Eddie Cortez, Max Skolnick-Schur, and Bobby Felts. He also recorded a 12-6 decision against Cameron Jackson.

Cameron White (4-3 FS, 3-3) took third place in both styles at 106 pounds, scoring tech falls against Caden Pollard in both brackets.

Novice

Grady Mittasch (13-4 FS, 8-7 GR) took first place in Freestyle and second in Greco at 82 pounds. He scored technical falls against Ryder Seago and Garrett Salt and pinned Ryan Swain in Freestyle. In Greco he fell to Seago by pin but teched Swain 12-0.

Balance Johnson (1-1 FS, 2-0 GR) won the 160-pound Greco Roman bracket and came in runner-up in Freestyle. He scored technical falls against Jackson Dyer and Adrian Flores in Greco and against Flores in Freestyle. Dyer got the upper hand in Freestyle with a pin.

Nation Johnson (2-3 FS, 2-2 GR) came in runner-up in Greco Roman and placed fourth in Freestyle at 92 pounds. In Greco he pinned Garritt Hunt and Cash Bray, but fell to Teyton Chandler. He defeated Hunt 16-8 and pinned Tyler McCall in 47 seconds in Freestyle.

Adrian Flores (4-17 FS, 3-16 GR) placed second in Greco and third in Freestyle at 160. He teched Jackson Dyer in both styles but fell to teammate Balance Johnson in both styles.  

Intermediate

Promised Johnson (2-0 FS, 1-2 GR) took first place in Freestyle and second in Greco at 77 pounds. He scored technical falls against Brody Mills and Hunter Miner in Freestyle, but drew only one competitor in Greco and had to wrestle a best-of-three against Mills. Mills won the first match 22-10, Johnson won the second 25-12, and Mills won the third by fall.
