Youth Wrestling: Sand Springs brings home five gold medals from Owasso

Five wrestlers from the Sand Springs Team Big wrestling club won their brackets at the USAOK tournament in Owasso this past weekend. 

Next weekend will be the Oklahoma National Team Qualifier at Union High School in Tulsa. 

Junior

Riley Weir (19-4) won the 126-pound Freestyle bracket with a 10-0 technical fall against Luke Collett.

Schoolboy

Abraham Flores (8-1 FS, 8-1 GR) won the 114-pound Greco bracket and placed third in Freestyle. In Greco he teched Brady Benham 12-2, Payton Thomas 14-2, and Ryan Trickett 13-2. In Freestyle he lost his opening match 10-0 to Jim Mullin, but pinned Kai Shultz in 2:55 and Chad Herbert in 0:44 before topping Levi Smith 14-7.

Bryce Fisher (20-1) throttled the 187-pound Freestyle bracket with five technical falls and a cumulative score of 53-1 against Mason Harris, Micah Sorrels, Jesse Newby, Landon Kuhn, and John Roberts.

Clayton Giddens-Buttram (3-0) handily won the 77-pound Freestyle bracket with 10-0 technical falls against Dylan Abbott and Terrance Branam.

Cameron White (5-5 FS, 5-5 GR) placed third in both styles at 106 pounds. He teched Caden Pollard 10-0 in both styles.

Novice

Adrian Flores (5-18 FS, 5-16 GR) placed first in Greco and third in Freestyle at 135 pounds. He won a best-of-three against JD Sigman in Greco with a 10-0 tech fall and a fall in 3:21. In Freestyle he teched Sigman 11-0, but was pinned by Frankie Esparza.

Grady Mittasch (15-6) placed third in Freestyle at 82 pounds, teching Rich Xiong and Katelyn Stokes 10-0 before falling to Cory Velasquez and Ryder Seago.
