CPHS Baseball: Sapulpa wins Highway 97 Rivalry 9-4 over Sand Springs

Ty Steelman was two for two at the plate with one run and one RBI.

The Charles Page High School varsity baseball team (20-9, 6-4) hit a bit of a slump last week, failing to bat over .200 in a game since their fourteen-win streak came to a close a week ago.

The Sandites dropped two district games to Jenks (15-12, 7-2), won two against Muskogee (3-25, 1-11), then lost a 9-4 Highway 97 Rivalry bout with Sapulpa (20-7) Friday at home.

The Sandites kept the score fairly close Friday considering they were out-hit thirteen to four and committed three errors. They picked up seven walks, and both teams stranded seven runners throughout the game.

Wyatt Sellers kicked off the game with a first inning triple and scored on a ground ball from Hayden Casey to put the Chieftains out front.

Gage Williams hit a three-run homer for a 4-0 lead then Coleson Coffey hit a double to score Kyle Alcorn in the third inning.

Sapulpa continued the melee in the top of the fifth, scoring on singles from Coffey and Sellers before the Sandites began to rally.

Two walks and a single loaded the bases, Lucas Adcock scored on a fielder's choice, and Ty Steelman made it in on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth.

The Chieftains responded immediately with two doubles and a single for a 9-2 lead in the sixth.

Steelman singled in Kameron Adcock and Tyler Ash singled in Lucas Adcock in the bottom of the sixth for the final runs of the game.

Brock Youngblood (3-4, 9-12) got the start and the loss on the mound, pitching nine hits, one strikeout, and two walks in four innings. Seth Villines (1-0) pitched four hits, two strikeouts, and one walk in relief.

Sand Springs Baseball will close out district action this week with a pair of games against Southmoore (7-23, 2-7). Sand Springs will travel to Moore Monday at 6:00 p.m. and will host the Sabercats Tuesday.
