The Charles Page High School boys' soccer team (2-1) improved to a winning record Friday afternoon at LaFortune Stadium, topping Northwest Classen (1-2) in the first round of the Edison Green & White Tournament.

The Sandites and Knights went scoreless through regulation. Both teams took an increasing number of shots as time drew shorter, but neither could hit paydirt.

Luke Jeffus took a shot with thirteen minutes left and the goalie nearly fumbled the ball, then the Sandites got a pair of corner kicks in the last few minutes but couldn’t get a good drop due to a strong headwind.

The Knights worked their way down to the Sandite box in the last minute but Jeffus managed to snag a steal and keep them at bay till time ran out.

Jeffus, Jack Bratcher, David Fancher, and Cameron Summerton all made their overtime penalty kicks, while freshman keeper Xander Quiroga blocked two Classen kicks and got a hand on a third.

The boys will return to action in the semifinals at 8:15 p.m. against Edison Preparatory School (1-1).
