CPHS Basketball: Regional Playoff preview

The Class 6A No. 13 ranked Charles Page High School girls' basketball team with kick off the first round of playoffs Friday evening in Bixby, followed by the No. 10 boys' team Saturday in Oklahoma City. 

The Lady Sandites finished the regular season 15-7 overall, third in the Frontier Valley Conference, and 3-3 in tournament play. They won the Bishop Kelley Invitational en rout to an 8-0 start to the season and number-one ranking in 6A, then went winless at the Tournament of Champions. They won their last two games of the regular season over unranked competitors following a 61-35 loss to No. 3 Owasso.

Friday at 6:30 p.m. the girls will take on unranked Stillwater (8-15) at Bixby High School. The No. 10 ranked host team will play Union (8-15) at 8:00 p.m. The winners of each game will both advance to the Area Tournament, but will meet Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to decide their seeding. 

Sand Springs has yet to meet Stillwater this season, but is 2-0 against Union and 1-0 against Bixby Sand Springs, Union, and Bixby are each conference foes. The Sandites defeated Union 71-54 and 49-37 and topped Bixby 69-56 three weeks ago at home.

The boys' team finished the season 16-6 overall, 9-5 in conference, and went 5-1 in tournaments, going undefeated at the Memorial Invitational, and placing third at the Duncan Invitational. They ended the season with back-to-back wins after a 97-77 shootout loss at No. 8 Owasso. 

The Sandites will play unranked Jenks (8-15) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Putnam City West High School in their third meeting of the season. They defeated the Trojans 64-45 and 65-52 in conference play. The No. 7 ranked host team (17-5) will play Bixby (7-16) at 8:00 p.m. The winners will play Monday night at 8:00 p.m. The Sandites have yet to meet Putnam West, but rolled over Bixby 60-42 last month.
