1922 Sand Springs Football Season - Head Coach A.R. Bateman

The Sandites failed to live up to the prior year’s 7-1 mark and finished their fourth season 2-7-1.

September 8, 1922 - Jennings

The season started strong with a 33-0 shutout of Jennings.

September 22, 1922 - Sapulpa

After a bye week, the Sandites (1-1) set out for what would become a historic first meeting with their future archrivals from Sapulpa. Coach Virgil Jones led his Chieftains to a 36-0 win in their season opener. Neither team could have known then that they were playing the first installment of what would one day become Oklahoma’s most heated rivalry.

September 29, 1922 - Drumright

Though far closer than the previous week’s rout, the Sandites (1-2) suffered another shutout defeat 6-0 in their first-ever meeting with Drumright.

October 13, 1922 - Dewey

The Sandites (1-3) suffered their third consecutive loss 33-0 in their first-ever meeting with Dewey.

October 20, 1922 - Haskell

Sand Springs (1-4) dropped its fourth consecutive shutout 12-0 at the hands of Haskell, who evened the series to 1-1.

October 27, 1922 - Kiefer

The Sandites (1-4-1) got a break from losing in the form of a 0-0 tie with Kiefer.

November 3, 1922 - Bristow

Once again the Sandites (1-4-2) forced a tie, this time 7-7 against Bristow.

November 10, 1922 - Collinsville

Even down on their luck, the Sandites (2-4-2) were too much for the Collinsville Cardinals, and won 34-6 to improve to 3-0 in the series.

November 17, 1922 - Bartlesville Central

The Sandites’ spirits wouldn’t stay high for long, however, and they soon suffered a 6-0 loss to Bartlesville to even the series at 2-2.

November 24, 1922 - Bixby

The season wrapped up with a 19-14 loss to Bixby in the first-ever meeting between the two future rivals.
