Sandite Bass Fishing sees success at Eufala tournaments

Several fishing teams from Charles Page High School competed at the Oklahoma Bass Nation High School tournaments on Lake Eufala this weekend. Two teams placed top-ten on both days and one team took first place Saturday in a crowded competition with more than a hundred boats in the water.

Noah Daczewitz and Hunter Hilger placed first out of 108 boats on Saturday, catching four fish totaling 16.15 pounds, for the first Sandite  victory ever and the heaviest Sandite catch ever. On Sunday they placed seventh out of 114 teams with four fish totaling 11.09 pounds.

Seth Kearns and Cole Scott placed ninth on Saturday, catching four fish totaling 11.22 pounds, then took tenth on Sunday with four fish totaling 10.35 pounds. 

John Miller and Caden Pennington placed 26th on Saturday, catching two fish totaling 6.31 pounds, and 18th on Sunday with four fish totaling 9.16. 

Kyle and Kale Hilligoss placed 30th on Saturday with one fish. Fortunately for them, it was the biggest fish caught by anyone Saturday at 5.09 pounds. 

Jerret Haley and Corbin Williams placed 21st on Saturday, catching three fish totaling 7.66 pounds.

Braden Millican and Ty Steelman couldn't make it out Saturday due to a baseball tournament, but placed 26th on Sunday. They caught four fish totaling 7.94 pounds. 

The Sandites will return to action on the 30th at Lake Tenkiller for the OBN State Championship.

Sandites of the Week: Hunter Hilger and Noah Daczewitz place first at Eufala Tournament

Charles Page High School fishermen Noah Daczewitz and Hunter Hilger were selected as this week's Sandites of the Week for their outstanding performance at two weekend tournaments on the Oklahoma Bass Nation High School trail. 

OBN hosted two tournaments on Lake Eufala this weekend and the Daczewitz/Hilger duo placed first in Saturday's tournament and seventh on Sunday. Their first place performance was the first time a Sandite team has won an OBN event and it was the heaviest catch a Sandite team has ever landed.

Weighing in at 16.15 pounds for an average weight of 4.04 pounds per fish, Daczewitz and Hilger crushed their previous performances of 11.91 pounds (with five fish) and 8.88 pounds (with four fish). On Sunday's tournament they hauled in four fish totaling 11.09 pounds.

More than 100 teams competed both days, and more than 40 failed to land a single catch either day.

Miller-Pennington fishing team takes ninth at Bass Nation season opener

The Oklahoma High School Bass Nation fishing season officially kicked off recently at Lake Murray and Sand Springs Team #2 landed ninth place on a tough weekend where no single team caught the limit. 

Of the 86 teams that turned out for the event, only 42 landed a fish and only sixteen brought in more than one. John Miller and Caden Pennington hauled in two fish weighing 4.36 pounds for ninth place. Noah Daczewitz and Hunter Hilger caught one fish, weighing 2.58 pounds, for 24th place. Kyle and Kale Hilligoss caught one fish, weighing 2.27 pounds, for 29th place. Austin Smith and Joe Nelson caught one fish, weighing 2.03 pounds, for 32nd place. 

Last season was the first year Sand Springs had any teams participate in the Bass Nation High School Trail, and finished with three teams by the end of the season. Daczewitz and Hilger finished ninth in the standings and placed seventeenth in the State Championship. Miller and Pennington finished sixteenth in the standings and placed fourteenth at State. Braden Millican and Ty Steelman finished 36th in the standings and took twelfth at State. 

In addition to the Hilligoss team and the Smith-Nelson team, three other Sand Springs teams have signed up to participate this year. Seth Kearns and Cole Scott make up Team #5, Jerret Haley and Corbin Williams comprise Team #6, and Jacob Weathers and Bryson Wooten are Team #8. 

The Bass trail only includes one date in the fall, and won't pick up again till Spring of 2017 with back-to-back tournaments at Lake Eufaula on April 1st and April 2nd. The teams will also compete on Ft. Gibson Lake on Lake Tenkiller.

Sand Springs High School fishing makes strong showing at OBN State Championship

Three Charles Page High School Bass Fishing teams took to the waters of Lake Keystone Saturday to compete in the Oklahoma Bass Nation High School State Championships. Braden Millican and Ty Steelman came in 12th out of 40 boats in the single day event, catching four fish totaling 9.68 pounds. According to Coach Bradley Millican the team experienced some mechanical problems with the boat and were unable to fish certain areas because of those troubles.

Caden Pennington and John Miller finished in 14th place. Sand Springs They also caught four bass, which weighed in at 9.45 pounds. Pennington and Miller were ranked 16th out of 42 teams after the Oklahoma Bass Nation season. Hunter Hilger and Noah Daczewitz, who sat at 9th place in the standings after the OBN season finished, experienced some motor trouble with their boat as well, but that didn't stop them from netting four bass as well. They finished in 17th place with a total weight of 8.88 pounds. 

It was an impressive showing from the Sand Springs teams, each finishing in the upper half of the field. The Championship was won by Mannford Team #2, McCrackin and Baker, who caught four fish with a total weight of over 14 pounds.

Sand Springs Bass Teams perform well at SAF State Championship

Two Sand Springs High School fishing teams competed at the Oklahoma Student Angler Federation State Championship in Muskogee. The event was held on the Arkansas River this past weekend. Ty Steelman and Braden Millican placed eleventh in the event while John Miller and Caden Pennington placed eighteenth out of forty-two boats. 

The SAF State Championship is separate from the Oklahoma Bass Nation trail that the Sand Springs teams typically compete on. The OBN State Championship will be June 25th at Lake Keystone. The top four teams from the SAF State event will advance to the Southern Conference Regional Championship in Shreveport, Louisiana in October.

Steelman and Millican failed to catch the five-fish limit but still outweighed six teams that did net five bass, and were only one pound, five ounces away from qualifying for the Regional. The two possessed the heaviest four-fish net of the whole tournament at eleven pounds, eight ounces.

Miller and Pennington weren't far behind with four fish weighing nine pounds, three ounces. 

This is the first year Sand Springs has sent a team to the event, which has been going on since 2011. All three teams are expected to take to the waters of Lake Keystone for the OBN State Championship.

Hunter Hilger and Noah Daczewitz comprise a third Sandite team. They didn't participate at the SAF tournament, but they're currently ninth in the State OBN standing. Miller/Pennington are sixteenth in the standings and Steelman/Millican are thirty-sixth after only participating in two of five tournaments. 

Sand Springs High School bass teams place top ten at Ft. Gibson Tournament

All three Charles Page High School fishing teams traveled to Fort Gibson this weekend for the last leg of the Oklahoma Bass Nation High School Trail. The lake hosted two back-to-back single day tournaments to conclude the regular season.

Braden Millican and Ty Steelman placed eighth in the first tournament with four fish weighing a total 9.41 pounds. The largest weighed in at 3.59 pounds. Noah Daczewitz and Hunter Hilger came in at ninth place with two fish weighing 6.39 pounds total. Their largest was 4.52 pounds. Caden Pennington and John Miller tied for last place after failing to land a catch. It was a rough day all around as only five of the thirty teams in the competition hauled in the full five-fish limit. Ten teams didn't land a single fish.

The Day Two tournament wasn't much better for the Sandites. Daczewitz and Hilger fared well for the second day in a row, coming in eleventh with three fish totaling 7.21 pounds, but the other two teams had a far rougher time. Miller and Pennington landed one fish at a solid 3.75 pounds for nineteenth place, but Millican and Steelman were unable to replicate their prior day's success. Team Three had several bites, according to Coach Bradley Millican, but three big ones slipped the hook right at the boat. 

Daczewitz and Hilger finished the regular season ninth in the state out of 42 teams with 357 points. Central Oklahoma's Keenom and Knoch finished with the top rank at 392 points and will get to travel to the National Championship this summer. The Sand Springs First Team participated in all five tournaments this season and placed fifteenth at Lake Eufala, twelfth at Lake Murray, and twenty-eighth at Lake Texoma.

Miller and Pennington finished the season sixteenth in the state with 291 points. They missed the Eufala Tournament due to mechanical problems, but placed fifteenth at Murray and a very impressive fourth place at Texoma. 

Team Three had a rough time this season as they missed the first three tournaments due to conflicts with baseball season and ultimately placed thirty-sixth. Millican and Steelman had a solid debut in the first Ft. Gibson Tournament, but would have needed to place first both days just to finish in the top 25. 

The State Championship Tournament will be held on June 25, 2016 at Lake Keystone and all three teams will be competing.
