For the third night in a row the Charles Page High School varsity softball team (21-4, 8-2) pulled off a big district win on the home field, this time against Shawnee (17-3, 5-2), to move into second place in district standings. The Wolves previously beat the Sandites 5-0 in August, but the Sandites paid it back 6-3 thanks to another powerful offensive effort from Madison Lee.

Lee, a senior shortstop, is batting a team-best .595 this season and she was three-of-four against Shawnee with two runs, two RBI, and a double. As a team, the Sandites amassed 12 hits, and Raegan Rector was also three-of-four with a double and two RBI.

Lee singled on the Sandites’ first at-bat of the game and Rector brought her in soon after. Hallie Wilson tripled for Shawnee in the top of the fourth and came in on a single from Kali Kasterke to tie it. Carly Torbett singled in Tatum Sparks for the 2-1 lead.

Aliyah Taff, Avery Tanner, and Drew Hawkins loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth. Olivia Alexander hit an RBI single, Lee hit a two-run double, Morgan Rector scored on a ground out from Jolee McNally, and Raegan Rector hit an RBI double to make it 6-2.

Sparks, an Oklahoma State University-commit, hit a double in the sixth and scored the final run on an error. She finished the game two-of-three at the plate with two runs.

Taff (14-4, 31-18) got the win in the pitcher’s circle with six hits, nine strikeouts, and one walk. Anneca Anderson got the loss with 12 hits, 11 strikeouts, and one walk.

The Sandites’ 21-4 record is their best since 2012 and they will look to improve on that mark next week with a pair of tough district road games. Sandite Softball will travel to Owasso Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. and to Jenks Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Shawnee will host Ponca City for a district double-header Saturday.
