The Class 6A No. 18 ranked Charles Page High School varsity volleyball team (11-10) hosted No. 14 Enid (10-4) Thursday night at the Ed Dubie Field House and won a 3-2 non-conference upset. The Sandites have only taken three matches to a full five sets this season, and this is the first time they pulled off the win.

Enid’s Lauren Powell scored an ace on the opening rally, Jacelyn Smith retaliated with a kill, then Enid went on a four point run with an ace from Evencilla Malolo and kills from Catherine Cunningham and Hanna Brinley. Layla Lenex entered the game and scored three straight kills for the Sandites, then added a fourth to cut their deficit to 8-7 before Enid had another four-point run. A Sandite hot streak evened it out at 13-13 after kills from Kasidy Holland, Teyha Johnson, and Payton Robbins, and it tied three more times before the visitors went on a five point streak that the Sandites never recovered from. Enid closed a three-point run with an ace from Cunningham to win 25-18.

Sand Springs tied the match with a 25-19 win in game two. They opened 5-0 with a kill from Smith and a pair from Robbins. Jackie Camerena tied it at 11-11, but Holland, Smith, and Robbins scored three straight kills and never again gave up the lead. They closed on 6-1 run and Smith scored a kill for the game winner. Robbins and Holland scored four kills apiece in the set.

Game three was a lopsided Enid victory that saw the visitors lead by as much as 22-10 before the Sandites tried to rally. Robbins scored a kill and an ace in a five point run late in the set but the deficit was insurmountable and the Pacers won 25-17. The Sandites managed only seven offensive points in the game and got most of their points on Pacer mistakes.

Layla Lenex scored two kills and a block in a five-point run for the 10-6 lead in game four. Robbins scored two kills in a five-point run at 20-13 and the Sandites won 25-19 after a Pacer service error. Lenex and Robbins had three kills apiece in the set and Johnson served two aces.

Robbins scored a kill to start the tie-breaker round and Johnson followed it with an ace, but the Sandites committed a pair of errors to tie it up. Sophie Singleton and Lenex scored a pair of kills to regain the lead and the Pacers never again caught up.

Lenex led the Sandites with 16 kills and four blocks, followed by Robbins with 11 kills and three aces. Johnson recorded 35 assists and three aces, and Madison Blaylock had 20 digs. Cunningham scored a game-high 22 kills and two aces, and Kyleigh Whitehead added 14 kills and three aces for the Pacers.

Sandite Volleyball will take a week off before hosting Will Rogers (1-3) next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Enid will travel to Lawton (2-9) Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
