CPHS Softball: Sandites beat Stillwater 12-2 and Fort Gibson 11-3

Madison Lee was a perfect 7-for-7 at the plate on Friday.

The Charles Page High School varsity fast pitch team (11-1) snapped back from its first loss of the season with a pair of easy wins over Stillwater (6-3) and Fort Gibson (0-6) Friday at the Stillwater Festival. The girls batted well over .500 in both games to run-rule both opponents in under seven innings.

Against Stillwater they took an 8-0 lead before allowing the host team on the board, and ultimately racked up 14 hits, six of which earned extra bases. Madison Lee and Drew Hawkins were a perfect three-for-three at the plate.

Jaden Jordan kicked things off with an RBI double in the first, then came in on a single from Aliyah Taff. Hawkins and Nataley Crawford scored on sacrifice bunts from Lee and Avery Tanner in the second inning, then Raegan Rector hit an RBI double to make it 5-0.

The Sandites loaded the bases in the third. Crawford hit a two-run single and Tanner had an RBI double to make it 8-0 before the Pioneers finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Addyson Brown.

Lee scored Hawkins with a double in the fifth, and Alex Griffin responded for Stillwater by scoring on an error. The Sandites had another explosive inning in the sixth, capitalizing on a pair of walks. Kelsi Hilton doubled then Hawkins tripled and scored on an error for the ten-run lead. Stillwater managed two hits in the bottom of the inning, but Taff threw a pair of strikeouts and Olivia Alexander made the throw to second to catch Makenzi Swick on an attempted steal.

Taff (7-1, 24-15) got the win in the pitcher’s circle with six hits, four strikeouts, one walk, and no earned runs. Kendyl Prichard received the loss with eight hits, five strikeouts, and three walks in four innings, while Swick threw six hits and one walk in two innings.

The Sandites repeated their 14-hit performance against Fort Gibson, and this time they did it in only five innings. Lee had yet another perfect game, this time going four-for-four with two doubles. A six-run first inning left the Tigers in the dust.

Lee singled for the first hit of the game, then scored on a triple from Tanner, who in turn scored on a ground out from Rector. Hawkins hit an RBI double, Mackenzie Burks and Hilton hit RBI singles, then Lee rounded out the batting order with an RBI double to make it 6-0.

Hawkins brought in Rector with an RBI single in the second, then it was the Tigers’ turn to shine. Kelly Hanna drew a walk and scored on a ground out from Erica Hornback. Graci Williams doubled and scored on a home run from Baleigh James to cut the score to 7-3, but those would be the only runs of the game for Fort Gibson.

Lee, Rector, and Jordan all doubled in the bottom of the third, and Tanner had a single as the Sandites pushed their lead to 10-3. Crawford scored the final run in the bottom of the fifth, coming in on a ground out from Rector on the last play of the game.

Crawford (4-0, 7-2) continued her undefeated season in the circle with four hits, five strikeouts, and two walks in five innings. Nia Polzin took the loss with 14 hits, two strikeouts, and three walks.

Sandite softball will return to action Monday at 5:30 p.m. with a district home game against Jenks (2-3, 1-0). Sand Springs is 2-0 in district play.
