CPHS Wrestling: Sandites in 4th place, advance 9 to Regional quarterfinals

The Charles Page High School Wrestling team went 4-5 in the first round of the Class 6A East Regional Championship Friday morning in Broken Arrow, and advanced nine wrestlers to the quarterfinals. The team is tied for fourth place following the Round of 16. 

Mitchell Smith pinned Bixby’s Cody Kaiser in 1:32 at 113 pounds. He will face Michael Fredrickson of Deer Creek in the quarterfinals. 

Chris Kirby pinned Northwest Classen senior Levi Wilson in 21 seconds at 160 pounds. He will take on Deer Creek senior Tim Trigg in the quarterfinals. 

Brooks Dudley survived a nearfall situation against Muskogee’s Ty’Vonte Williams at 182 and pinned the Rougher at 2:42. He will wrestle Ponca City’s Landon Newlin in the quarterfinals. 

Santana Naugle took on Ponca City’s HB Bowers at heavyweight and won a 3-2 decision. He will wrestle Union senior Micah Walker in the quarterfinals. 

Harley Newberry received a bye at 120. He will wrestle Broken Arrow’s Bryce Cockrell in the quarterfinals. Seth Jones received a bye at 126 and will take on Union freshman Andre Boyd. Blake Jones received a bye at 138 and will face Enid sophomore Trinit Zweifel. Sango Whitehorn received a bye at 195 and will meet Broken Arrow junior Emmanuel Skillings. Josh Fincannon received a bye at 220 and will take on Northwest Classen’s George Allen in the quarterfinals. 

Shane Wolf was pinned by Ponca City’s Preston Lee in the first round of 106. He will have a bye in the first round of consolation.

Carter Goodman lost a close 5-2 to decision to Ponca City’s Gabriel Roland at 132 that came down to the final seconds. He will have a bye in the first round of consolation. 

Preston Medlin held a 4-2 lead against Muskogee’s Bobby Felts at 145 till late in the third when the Rougher reversed for nearfall points and a 6-4 win. He will have a bye in the first round of consolation due to an Owasso disqualification. 

Ethan White was pinned by Broken Arrow senior William Martin in the first round of 152. He will wrestle Midwest City’s Jamie Watts in consolation. 

Codey Cramer made his varsity debut against Broken Arrow senior Bryce Mattioda at 170 and was pinned. He will get a bye in the first round of consolation.

Former Sandites Christian Forbes (Broken Arrow) and Carter Young (Stillwater) both received byes.
