CPHS Softball: Sand Springs beats Collinsville 5-4 in extra innings

The Charles Page High School fast pitch softball team (19-10) went to extra innings for the first time this season and came out on top of a 5-4 upset of Collinsville (22-6) on Senior Night.

The game matched two District Runners-Up, both defending Regional Champions, each with one game left in the regular season. Collinsville outhit the Sandites 11-10 and the teams committed two errors apiece in the closely-fought ballgame.

Collinsville never trailed, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI single from Kenley Hardesty to score Bailee Campbell, then Fallin Sexton scored on an error in the third.

Rachael Jones got the home team on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to score Madison Lee, but Korynn Tindel put the visitors up 3-1, scoring on a single from Mackenzie Crow in the fourth inning.

The Sandite offense got rolling in the bottom of the fourth as Reagan Rector singled in Drew Hawkins and Jolee McNally hit a sacrifice bunt to score Makenna Skaggs for the tie. They loaded the bases in the sixth inning with an error and two walks, but stranded the side on a fly out.

Allisa Jones batted in Sexton to reclaim the Cardinal lead in the seventh, but Felicity Horn hit a double and scored on an error to send the game to extra innings. The Sandites quickly retired the side and Lee hit a double before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Jones for the win.

Mackenzie Bechtold (6-3, 10-3) got the win in the pitcher’s circle with eleven hits, four strikeouts, and two walks. Elizabeth Aman took the loss with ten hits, one strikeout, and five walks.

Sand Springs Softball will travel to Oologah High School (28-2) Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and Collinsville will host Bartlesville (8-19) Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in their final games of the regular season. Both teams will host Regional Tournaments next week.
