CPHS Softball: Sandites roll Muskogee 13-4 in district road game

The Charles Page High School fast pitch softball team (15-8, 7-2) won a district road game in Muskogee (5-9, 5-7) Tuesday afternoon, rolling over the Roughers 13-4 in a game that could have been much worse for the home team. Muskogee gave up fifteen hits and three walks, and committed six errors.

Muskogee was first on the board with a 2RBI single from D’Asia Brown to score Jordan Simmons and Shania Henry in the bottom of the first. Jaden Jordan batted in Avery Tanner in the third inning and Drew Hawkins scored on a hit from Jolee McNally to tie it. Isyss Patton hit a triple in the bottom of the third and scored on a single from Simmons to reclaim the Rougher advantage.

Sand Springs took their first lead in the top of the fifth. Hawkins doubled in Felicity Horn to tie it and scored on a single from Madison Lee to make it 4-3. Simmons hit an RBI single to score Katlyn Clark for the third tie and final Rougher run of the night in the bottom of the inning.

The game stayed all knotted up till the seventh when Sand Springs blew it wide open. McNally, Sabrina Usher, Hawkins, Jordan, and Lee hit singles and Tanner had a double. Two errors and a walk set up the visitors for a nine-run inning. Lee, McNally, Usher, Makenna Skaggs, Horn, Tanner, Hawkins, and Jordan scored runs in the inning.

Mackenzie Bechtold (5-2, 9-2) got the win in the pitcher’s circle with four hits and one walk in three innings. Aliyah Taff (7-4, 11-10) picked up her first save of the season with three hits, three strikeouts, and no walks in four innings.

Sand Springs softball will host a district battle with Shawnee (9-17, 3-5) Thursday at 5:00 p.m. They previously defeated the Wolves 7-1 last month. Muskogee will play Owasso (15-6) Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the first round of the Tahlequah Sequoyah Fall Classic. They were swept 7-6 and 8-4 by the Rams in district action.

Owasso (15-6, 8-1) snapped the Sandites’ eight-game winning streak to move into first place in district standings. The Rams outhit the Sandites 12-5 with Avery Tallman in the pitcher’s circle. Tallman struck out three Sandites and walked none.

Jaycee Hampton scored on a single from Paige Knight, and Knight scored on a double from Payton Compton for an Owasso 2-0 first inning lead. In the second inning Callee Gregory and Knight hit singles to bring in Allene Dennis and Teagan Denny.

Tanner, Lee, and McNally loaded the bases in the third inning with a trio of singles. Tanner and Lee scored on a ground ball from Usher and Usher scored on an error to make it a one run game, but that was the last of the Sandite offense.

Dennis scored on a single from Gregory in the fourth, Madi Norton scored on a single from Compton in the sixth, then Compton and Annslee Leeviraphan scored on a single from Chloee Sams for the final points of the game.

Bechtold (4-2, 8-2) got the start and the loss for Sand Springs with six hits and one walk in two innings. Taff (7-4, 11-10) threw six hits, four walks, and one strikeout in four innings of relief.
