CPHS Volleyball: Sandites end season 7-18 with Regional loss to Broken Arrow
/The Charles Page High School varsity volleyball team (7-18) took on the Frontier Valley Conference Champions from No. 9 ranked Broken Arrow (20-13) Tuesday evening at Owasso High School.
The Lady Sandites fell in sets of 25-23, 25-11, and 25-12 in the first round of the Regional Championship to end their season.
Macy Blackburn scored the first kill for Broken Arrow, the Tigers made a service error, then scored on a kill from Mackenzie McGuire. The Sandites rattled off four straight wins from there for a 5-2 lead. Madison Blaylock made an impressive dig that the Tigers let fall undefended. Cheyenne Henry made a kill, then combined on a block with Rachel Hines.
The teams traded blows till the Tigers dug themselves into an 11-7 deficit with three-straight errors. A quick timeout to adjust and they rattled off five straight points with four kills. Devree Youngblood tied it at 12-12, Cloe Campfield tied it at 13-13, and Henry tied it at 14-14 before the Sandites put together a three point run for the 18-15 lead with a kill from Henry and a block from Henry and Youngblood.
Sand Springs stayed out front till 20-17, then the Tigers rattled off four straight. The set tied three more times before Kiana Clark and Gracie Daniels combined on a block for the 25-23 victory. Henry was the star of the game with five kills and two blocks.
Broken Arrow buried Sand Springs in an early 13-5 deficit in set two with a 10-1 run and the Sandites never recovered. Sand Springs committed ten errors with only three kills, and the Tigers cleaned up their serve game with four aces and half as many service errors in the 25-11 beat down.
Game three started as another back and forth affair. Broken Arrow started to pull ahead at 8-5, then committed four errors to give the Sandites the lead. Olivia Boss tied it at 9-9, Vanessa Wyrick killed for the lead, then the Tigers got back into their groove with eight straight rallies to knock the Sandites out of contention.
The Tigers, who went undefeated in conference action this season, were defeated 3-0 by the hosting Rams in the Regional finals. Owasso and Jenks are the lone FVC teams to advance to the State Tournament.
