CPHS Softball: State Tournament Preview
/The Charles Page High School fast pitch softball team is headed to the OSSAA Class 6A State Tournament for the fourth straight year after winning their sixteenth Regional Championship last week.

The State Tournament was previously held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, but will be moving to The Ballfields at Firelake at 18160 Rangeline, Shawnee this year.
The Sandites (23-8) will take on Edmond North (27-3) in the quarterfinals Thursday at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have yet to meet this season, but the Sandites are the underdogs going off mutual opponents. Sand Springs had to battle back through the loser’s bracket at Regionals, while the Huskies are riding a fourteen-game win streak.
Edmond North has a 5-2 win over Durant (26-8) who defeated the Sandites 9-4. The Huskies are 2-0 against Jenks (24-11) with wins of 9-5 and 12-3, while the Trojans doubled Sand Springs 10-5. Edmond North won 6-2 against Moore (19-16) who defeated Sand Springs 4-3. Edmond North shut out Union (20-21) twice, 5-0 and 11-0. The Sandites went 2-1 against Union at Regionals, winning 10-0 and 13-7, but losing 1-3 in their first meeting.
Sand Springs has never won a State title, but came in runner-up in 2015 and 1992. They have only advanced past the quarterfinals a handful of times in school history. The Huskies won titles in 2004 and 2012.
The winner of the Sandites’ quarterfinal game will take on the winner of Yukon (22-8) vs. Broken Arrow (32-5) Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Tigers have a pair of 5-2 wins over the Sandites, who have yet to meet Yukon this year. Broken Arrow holds eleven State titles, most recently in 2009. Yukon has won five State titles, lastly in 2010.
The Millers split wins with Broken Arrow and have two wins over Moore who defeated the Sandites 4-3. They also have a win over Union.
On the north side of the bracket are Deer Creek (27-3) vs. Stillwater (21-10) and Owasso (25-9) vs. Westmoore (29-5). Deer Creek and Owasso won their lone State titles in 2003 and 1995, respectively. Westmoore and Stillwater have never won fast pitch titles. The State Championship game will be played Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Sand Springs is 2-0 against Stillwater with wins of 13-3 and 8-0. They defeated Owasso 6-5 and Westmoore 2-1 but have yet to meet Deer Creek. The Antlers have wins of 6-3 and 4-3 against Broken Arrow and a 4-2 win over Jenks.
The Sandites are batting .353 this season with a .539 slugging average and .411 on-base percentage. They outscore their opponents 7.7 to 2.3 while allowing 4.8 hits and committing 1.26 errors per game.
Shawnee offers plenty of attractions for Sandites who make the weekend drive. The town is home to the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, the Pottawatomie County Museum, and the Citizen Pottawatomie Nation Cultural Heritage Center. Other fun activities can be found at the FireLake Family Resort Bowling Center, the BDC Gunroom, and the Brickhouse Saloon & Tap Room Grill.
