CPHS Softball: Sandites shut out Enid 18-0 in playoff no-hitter, Usher hits home run

The Charles Page High School fast pitch softball team (20-7) couldn’t have gotten off to a better start at the 6A Regionals Tuesday afternoon, run-ruling the Enid Pacers 18-0 in the first round of the home tournament.

Missouri State University-committed senior Jacie Taber (4-0, 33-10) threw seven strikeouts, two walks, and no hits in three innings on the mound, and junior Mackenzie Bechtold (3-0) struck out three, walked one, and gave up no hits in two innings of relief.

The Sandites scored eighteen runs on seventeen hits, batting .586 as a team. Sabrina Usher hit her seventh home run of the season. They also committed no errors.

Taber got off to a hot start with three strikeouts and a walk in the top of the first. Kimi Presnell drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a sacrifice hit from Jenson Arnold for the first run of the game. Sabrina Usher was hit by pitch and scored soon after on a hit from Madelyn Blair for a 2-0 lead.

With one out and one on base in the second, Taber got her fourth strikeout and Usher got a pickoff at first to bring the Sandites in for another successful offensive.

Taber hit a standup triple and scored on a single from Presnell. Presnell stole two and scored on an error that allowed Skaggs to make it to third. Usher brought her in a on a home run for a 6-0 lead.

Drew Hawkins scored on an error, Taber singled in Blair, and Felicity Horn and Taber scored runs on back-to-back passed balls. Presnell scored Elizabeth Luttrell on a double and came in on a passed ball. Arnold scored Skaggs and Usher on a single to make it 14-0.

Taber struck out the side in order in the top of the third. Luttrell batted in Taber and Reagan Rector with a double, then scored on a double from Skaggs, who in turn scored on a single from Usher for the final run of the game.

Sand Springs will return to action at 6:00 p.m. against the winner of Union (19-19) vs. Putnam City North (5-24). Enid (2-22) will play the loser of Union/PCN at 4:00 p.m. for a chance to battle back through the consolation bracket.
