CPHS Basketball: Girls win first playoff game 53-48 over Stillwater, Johnson scores 24

The No. 13 ranked Charles Page High School girls' basketball team (16-7) survived the first round of the Class 6A Regional Playoffs with a 53-48 Friday night win against Stillwater (8-16) at Bixby High School. 

The girls jumped out to a solid 22-14 halftime lead, but Stillwater exploded for 24 points in the third quarter to cut it to 39-38. They scored as many in that stanza as they did in the other three combined, paced by senior star Brooke Rayner. The three-time Class A State Semifinalist, formerly of Pond Creek-Hunter, scored all thirteen of her team-high points in that quarter.

The Sandites did their best to answer, also putting up their biggest single-quarter performance with seventeen points, including three-pointers from Jacie Taber and Isabella Regalado.

The teams were back-and-forth throughout the fourth period till junior standout Destiny Johnson secured the final lead with less than two minutes to play.

Johnson led all scorers with 24 points, followed by Holly Kersgieter with fourteen and Taber with ten. Jaci Littell tied Rayner with thirteen for Stillwater.

The Sandites will return to action Monday at 7:00 p.m. against the host team, No. 10 Bixby (18-6) who defeated Union 54-42 in their first game. Both teams will advance to Area, but the losing team will have to play an additional round to make it to State. The Lady Sandites previously defeated Bixby 69-56 last month.
