Sandite Baseball hammers Hillcrest 13-1, goes undefeated at Bruin Classic

The Charles Page High School Varsity Baseball team (8-6 overall, 1-3 district) competed at the Bruin Wood Bat Classic this weekend and went undefeated in the festival-style tournament.
Sand Springs is on a four-game winning streak after picking up their first district win against Moore High School (4-5, 1-3) last Tuesday. They followed it up with a 4-0 shutout of Parkhill Christian Academy (3-5), then defeated Rogers, Arkansas (2-4) 4-1 and Hillcrest High School (6-3) 13-1.

The Sandites jumped out to an early lead against Hillcrest, scoring five runs in the first inning. Mack Thompson started things off with a single to score Josh Taber, who reached on an error and stole second. Treyce Tolbert and Hunter Greathouse walked to load the bases, then Braden Askew doubled to score Thompson and Tolbert. Cale Savage singled to score Greathouse, then Cal Watkins singled to score Askew.
The Screamin' Eagles landed one hit in the first inning, but couldn't advance the runner, and Sandite pitcher Braden Millican (1-0) struck out the side in the second.
Sand Springs had another explosive inning in the top of the third. Savage singled, then outran a fielder's choice and was joined on base by Watkins. Ty Steelman reached on an error to load the bases. Kameron Adcock reached on an error to score Savage, then Taber singled to score Watkins and Steelman. Thompson singled to score courtesy runner Garrett McCallie and Tolbert singled to score Taber for the 10-0 lead.
Hillcrest scored their lone run in the bottom of the third on an error, but Sand Springs added three more in the top of the fourth.
Savage reached on error and scored on a single from Watkins. Watkins scored on a single from Adcock, then McCallie scored the final run of the game on a double from Thompson.
Brock Youngblood (0-2) relieved Millican on the mound in the bottom of the fifth and pitched one strikeout with no walks or hits. Millican gave up only one hit and two walks in his four innings on the mound and struck out three batters.
The Sandites will return to action Monday with a district road game against Bixby High School (5-6, 1-2) at 5:00 p.m.
