Editor’s Note: I have only located two historical sources for this team, a story by Sand Springs Leader Sports Editor Jerry Wood about a win over Nathan Hale, and an unattributed story in The Dollar Saver from April 14, 1992.

Sand Springs vs. Nathan Hale

The Sandites improved to 3-2 overall with a 5-0 district-opening win over Nathan Hale.

Whitney Childers scored on an assist from Holly Been, and Been scored a goal of her own to make it 2-0 in the first half.

In the second half, Brenda Maynard scored on an assist from Childers at the 59:23 mark, then freshman Erica Young scored two more goals to finish the game. Her first came on a corner kick from Jeanne’ Fincannon and the second came with just seconds left on the clock.

Courtney Oliver got the shutout at Goalie.

“This was the opener of the district for us tonight and we needed to get off to a good start,” Sandite coach John Rhein told the Leader after the game. “We had several girls that played good, especially Janina Johnson, Melanie O’Dell, Tracy Adams and Jennifer Ridener on the back end.”

Sand Springs vs. Skiatook

The Lady Sandites dropped a 1-0 decision to district foe Skiatook despite a seven-save effort from goalie Courtney Oliver. Skiatook scored its lone goal at the 48:02 mark.

Sand Springs vs. Bixby

Sand Springs got back on track the very next night with a 6-1 romp over Bixby. Melanie O’Dell scored first, followed by Jeanne’ Fincannon with a penalty kick at 14:00. Holly Been added a goal with a minute left in the half. Fincannon added two more goals in the second half for a hat trick, and Been kicked the final goal at 64:15.
