Four Sandite Seniors compete in All-Star showcase, dominate Arkansas State Champs

Four Charles Page High School seniors haven't slowed down a bit since concluding their high school careers last month at the OSSAA 6A State Tournament.

Daton Fix, Jack Karstetter, Zane Basma, and Delvin Jordan competed for Team Oklahoma at the Battle of the Bad in Miami, Oklahoma, and won seven of their eight matches.

In the semifinal dual Oklahoma handily defeated Arkansas 57-10 and all four Sandites won their matches. Fix wrestled at 126 pounds and pinned two-time State Champion Michael Crockett in 4:08 for an 18-0 team lead. Karstetter scored a 21-8 major decision against State Champion Chance McCrary at 138 pounds for a 25-0 team lead. Basma wrestled at 160 and pinned three-time State Champion Jimmy Noel for a 31-10 team lead. Jordan competed at heavyweight and scored a 10-1 major decision over two-time State-placer Tim Wooten.

In the Championship round Kansas took a 10-0 lead against Oklahoma before Fix teched three-time State Qualifier Darion Bailey 22-7. Karstetter cut the deficit to 10-8 with a 9-5 decision over three-time State Qualifier Levi Green. Kansas went on a run from there with four-straight victories including a close 8-4 decision by State Runner-Up Brandon Mlekus over Basma for a 28-8 advantage. Oklahoma won three-straight and the Okies trailed 28-20 with two matches left. Jordan won his match against State Runner-Up Deveron Duncan, but the 6-5 decision wasn't enough to keep Oklahoma in contention. Ultimately it didn't matter, as Kansas won the heavyweight match for a 34-23 victory. 

From there, Fix and Karstetter joined up with Team Border at the Missouri Border Brawl in St. Louis. Fix pinned Northwestern University-signed State Champion Colin Valdiviez in 3:46, but Karstetter fell 20-9 to Army-signed State Champion Taylor Brown.

Fix and Karstetter both won State Championships this past month, while Jordan was a Runner-Up and Basma also qualified for the tournament. Fix is signed to wrestle for Oklahoma State University, while Jordan will play football for Pittsburg State University.

6A Outstanding Wrestler: Daton Fix (Sand Springs)

For the first time since 1971, the Charles Page High School Wrestling team will bring home a team trophy from the OSSAA State Tournament. With five State Champions and seven placers, the Sandites came out on top of a three-way race with No. 2 Choctaw and No. 3 Broken Arrow to clench their second State Championship this month after winning the Dual State title in Shawnee two weeks prior. 

This is the first time in town history that the Sandites have won two team State Championships in a single year. Oklahoma State University-signed senior Daton Fix officially ended his high school career as the first-ever four-time State Champion in Sand Springs history, and he did it without giving up a single loss. This was the first time since 2002 that anyone in Oklahoma went four years undefeated with four titles. This was also the first time another Sandite would bring home the gold with him.

Before this season, the Sandites had crowned 25 State Champions with 36 gold medals total. But no two Sandites have won State in the same year since 1978 when Craig Sanders, Kevin Newport, and Billy Boyd took the podium. Hall Williams, Wayne Sutterfield, and current Assistant Coach Ronnie Luce did so in 1974, and Frank Peck, Rick Warren, and Eddie Sullivan did so in 1971. The Sandites have never had more than three Champions in a single year, but they did place seven finalists in the 71' Championship season.

History was made Saturday evening as five of the six Sandite finalists won their brackets. Fix was joined atop the podium by sophomore Riley Weir, junior Payton Scott, and seniors Jack Karstetter and Beau Bratcher.

Weir (41-6 season, 62-18 career) took on Edmond Memorial freshman Garrett Steidley (30-4) in the 106-pound finals and won the first State Title of the evening. Weir was visibly dissatisfied with his first shot as the two ended up in a tangled mess vying for control. The wrestlers returned to their feet and Steidley took Weir off the mat with an inside trip, but didn't score. Returning to center the Sandite got the angle he was looking for and took the Bulldog down for back points. They started the second period neutral with Weir leading 4-0, and this time it was Steidley with the takedown. They returned to neutral for the third period and stayed there for the duration. The trailing Bulldog was the aggressor, firing off multiple close shots. But every time they hit the mat, Weir found his defense and staved off the takedown, ultimately holding on for the 4-2 decision.

Fix (47-0, 165-0) easily handled Edmond North senior Brandon Bright (36-5) in the 132-pound finals. It was a strange match for Fix. Bright did the unthinkable and actually scored a takedown. He was the first opponent to score against Fix this season. It wouldn't happen again, however. The Sandite took a 7-4 lead into the second period and made it 17-9 by the third, though Bright did put up some solid shots. Fate had its way and the Sandite was within a takedown of a technical fall before snagging the pin at 4:52.

Karstetter (32-1, 105-16) met Stillwater senior Tyler Dieringer (26-5) in the 138-pound finals. The two remained neutral throughout an aggressive first period, with Dieringer fending off several close calls. Karstetter started the second period on bottom and took the lead with an escape, but Dieringer tied it up early in the third. With twenty seconds left, the Sandite scored the winning takedown.

Bratcher (45-7, 136-30) battled former two-time Louisiana State Champion and Stillwater senior Kendon Lee (35-3) in the 145-pound finals. Bratcher and Lee were evenly matched throughout, remaining neutral through the first period. The Sandite scored an escape midway through the second period and added a takedown at the minute mark. He cut Lee loose midway through but was unable to score again. Bratcher started the final stretch on top and was nearly reversed on but managed to hold tough till a "potentially dangerous" call returned him to a more comfortable position. Lee continued to show his explosiveness on the scramble, but Bratcher had a vice grip and held off a reversal attempt as time expired for the 3-1 victory.

Scott (40-3, 61-11) squared off with Enid senior Austin Loza (36-9) in the 152-pound finals. Loza selected the down position after a neutral first period and quickly escaped for the lead, but Scott found a buzzer-beating takedown for the advantage. He started the third period on bottom, immediately broke loose, and stayed on his feet for a 3-1 decision.  . 

Jordan (44-2, 75-14), a Pittsburg State University football-signed senior, took on defending State Champion and Broken Arrow senior Skyler Haynes (12-2) in the 220-pound finals. Jordan wasted no time with his first shot and had the defending State Champ on the ropes before Haynes worked his way out of danger and ended up scoring on the Sandite. He cut Jordan loose soon after and the Sandite was just a second short of a takedown. Instead he entered the second period trailing 2-1 and Haynes elected the defensive position. Jordan cut him loose almost immediately but was unable to find points. He chose to start the third period on bottom and was in danger of a cradle for a while before finding the escape. He was unable to score, however, and Haynes prevailed for his second State title. Jordan may have lost this match, but he bested the Tiger two other times this season and still finished his career as a three-time State Qualifier and State Runner-Up.

Eleven Sandites qualified for the State Tournament. Michael Ritchey (36-12, 65-36), Blake Sargent (37-11, 89-25), Noah Almy (24-20), and Zane Basma (26-5, 88-30) were eliminated without placing. 

Senior Tanner Ward (34-12, 110-24) finished his career as a four-time State-placer, taking fourth place in the 113-pound bracket. He met Mustang sophomore Cameron Picklo in a rematch of the first-round and looked to be in good shape, leading 3-1 in the final minute of the match. Picklo scored a takedown with twenty seconds left, however, and rolled the Sandite onto his shoulder for a pair of nearfall points and a 5-3 decision. 

Sand Springs will be in a bit of a rebuilding year next season after graduating seven of their eleven State Qualifiers, but the Sandite bench is loaded with talented underclassmen waiting their turn. Simply returning two State Champions will be huge, but the Sandites will also have incoming Junior High State Champion Carter Young, Runner-Up Brett Black, and placers Kaden Glass, CJ Kirby, and Seth Jones. 

The future is as bright as ever in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.

The No. 1 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team is still in good position to win their first State Championship since 1971 with seven competitors still in contention and guaranteed to place. But they haven't clenched it yet.

With six finalists waiting to wrestle this evening, the Sandites had only two matches in the Saturday morning consolation semifinals. Seniors Michael Ritchey and Tanner Ward split wins, and Ward will wrestle for third place this afternoon around 12:45 p.m. 

Ward (34-11 season, 110-23 career) breezed through Bartlesville sophomore Brayden Strachan (33-9) with a pair of takedowns and a trio of nearfall points for a 7-1 first period lead in the 113-pound consolation semifinals. He started the second period on bottom and reversed in the first twenty seconds. Strachan reversed immediately after, and Ward reversed once again near the end of the period. The Sandite added a takedown to start the third, cut his foe loose, and repeated to try for a technical fall. Strachan got the final score however, and Ward settled for a 15-7 major decision. The four-time State placer will take on Mustang sophomore Cameron Picklo (31-7) in the placement round. 

Ritchey (36-12, 65-36) scored first against Mustang junior Joe Lupton (30-7) and held a 2-0 advantage to start the second period on top. Lupton failed to escape and Ritchey elected to start the third period on top as well. This time the Bronco got the upper hand for a reversal with 50 seconds left and sent the match into overtime, scoring a takedown for the 4-2 sudden victory decision. 

Sand Springs has lots of opportunity to score points, with sophomore Riley Weir (113), senior Daton Fix (132), senior Jack Karstetter (138), senior Beau Bratcher (145), junior Payton Scott (152), and senior Delvin Jordan (220) all wrestling for State titles.

Broken Arrow and Choctaw are still nipping at the heels of the Sandites, however. The third-ranked Tigers also have seven wrestlers in contention, with five finalists and two consolation finalists. The defending State Champions from Choctaw have seven in contention with four finalists and three consolation finalists.

The tournament is being held at Jim Norick Arena in the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. Consolation finals are slated to begin at 12:45 p.m., with the Championship matches scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Team and Individual awards presentations will be held at the conclusion of all wrestling. 

Sand Springs Elementary places fourth at Sperry Open with 8 Champions

Thirty Sand Springs elementary and middle school wrestlers competed at the USA Wrestling Sperry Open this past weekend and eight took first place in their divisions. Overall the Sandites took fourth place out of the fifty teams represented.

Grady Mittasch (14-1) competed in Division 3 at 70 pounds and won his fourth tournament of the season. He pinned Treshaun Tecson (Tulsa WC) in 1:09, teched Elijah Green (Broken Arrow) 17-1, shut out Jaxson Humphries (Catoosa) 6-0, and edged Blade Walden (Muskogee) 8-7. 

Owen Martin (9-0) competed in Division 4 at 70 pounds and won his third-straight tournament to remain undefeated on the season. He pinned Isaac Valencia (Collinsville) in 0:49 and Blade Walden (Muskogee) in 1:27, teched Hudson Henslick (Collinsville) 18-2, then pinned Conner Earwood (Division Bell) in 0:58.

Bentley Cole (5-1) competed in Division 1 at 37 pounds and took first place with an incredible performance. He pinned his first opponent, Pistol Autrey (Sperry) in 0:15, then took down Bentlee Starks (Sperry) in 0:13. In the finals he scored a 12-2 major decision over John Farmer (Cleveland) for his first tournament win of the season.

Clayton Giddens (12-1) competed in Division 4 at 67 pounds and took first place for the third time this season. He pinned Matthew Patton (Sperry) in 1:17, Andrew Havens (Sperry) in 1:30, and Canyon Curtis (Collinsville) in 1:22. 

Luke Burdette (10-1) competed in Division 4 at 130 pounds and took first place for the second time this season. He pinned Nathan Deatherage (Bartlesville) in 1:53, Lyric Wheeler (Owasso) in 1:59, and Micco Jones (Sapulpa) in 0:39.

Will Meredith (8-2) competed in Division 2 at 46 pounds and took first place for his second-straight tournament. He pinned Santos Valencia (Collinsville) in 0:21 and scored 6-0 decisions over both Aberic Scott (Threestyle) and Alden Rockacy (Rogers). 

Jackson Martin (7-2) competed in Division 3 at 52 pounds and took first place with a pair of pins. He drew only one competitor and pinned Parker Warren (Collinsville) in 0:56 and 1:30.

Rhett Peak (11-3) competed in Division 4 at 80 pounds and took third place. He pinned Isaac Grant (Division Bell) in 2:28 and received a forfeit from Peyton Trotter (Oologah) before falling 11-2 to Cole Brooks (Collinsville). He rebounded with a 2-1 decision over Josey Jernegan (Sperry), then took down Jayce Caviness (Stilwell) 6-4. 

Carter Wood (5-4) competed in Division 2 at 67 pounds and took third place. He was pinned in 1:20 in his opening match against Legend Ellis (Glenpool), but rebounded with three-straight victories. He pinned Havoc Crenshaw (Rogers) in 0:58, scored a 6-4 decision over Jake Wassom (Pryor), and pinned Garrett Williams (Division Bell) in 1:48.

Hunter Spencer (4-2) competed in Division 2 at 61 pounds and took second place. He scored an 11-4 decision over Ayden Carlile (Catoosa) and majored Kingston Sikes (Division Bell) 16-6 before falling 6-2 to Gunner Murray (Claremore).

Robert Burke (9-3) competed in Division 3 at 64 pounds and took second place. He pinned DJ Asberry (Team Neo) in 2:28 and scored a 2-0 decision over Dakota Seawright (Collinsville) before falling in 2:19 to Bryson Humphries (Catoosa).

Abraham Flores (9-2) competed in Division 4 at 100 pounds and took second place. He defeated Eli Hynes (Broken Arrow) 5-3 and pinned Chad Herbert (Owasso) in 2:28 before falling 6-4 to Isaiah Matanane (Division Bell) in a sudden victory round.

Jayden Bussell (6-2) competed in Division 1 at 55 pounds and took first place with a pair of pins. He took down Cade Orourke (Sperry) in 0:14 and Keller Murphy (Division Bell) in 0:24. He also competed up to Division 2 and took fourth place. He pinned Mateo Sanchez (Collinsville) in 2:30 and was in turn pinned in 1:00 by Jagen Jones (Sperry). He scored a 6-0 decision over teammate Ty Burdge, but was pinned in 3:35 by Cole Stevens (Division Bell).

Asher Giddens (3-4) competed in Division 1 at 40 pounds and took third place. He was pinned in 1:35 by Maddox Masters (Pryors) and in 1:57 by Jayden Beard (Sperry), but took down Lynette Mullin (Stilwell) in 1:12 and teched Corbin Thomas (Collinsville) 19-2.

London McGinnis (6-3) competed in Division 1 at 46 pounds and took fourth place. He pinned Jonathan Valadez (Sperry) in 1:00 and Santos Valencia (Collinsville) in 0:31 before falling in 0:57 to Carson Voss (Berryhill) 2:41 to Luke Boren (Claremore). 

Jaxon Trotter (10-7) competed in Division 3 at 85 pounds and took fourth place. He teched Frankie Esparza (Cleveland) 17-2 and pinned Noah Hayden (Division Bell) in 2:29, but was decisioned 5-0 by Jake Miller (Threestyle) and pinned in 1:51 by Boomer Lovins (Catoosa).

Mitchell Smith (4-6) competed in Division 4 at 73 pounds and took third place. He was pinned in 3:45 by Corban Zugelder (Catoosa) in the opening round, but rebounded with a 1:26 pin of Drew Auwen (Division Bell) and teched Trey Martin (Sapulpa) 17-2 before falling 4-0 to Zane Helmers (Kansas). 

Ethan White (4-3) competed in Division 4 at 120 pounds and took fourth place. He was pinned in 2:17 by Corey Chilcoat (Catoosa) but rebounded with a 20-5 tech fall over Chandler Ellis (Pryor). He pinned Max Becker (Oologah) in 0:38, but was in-turn pinned in 3:37 by Chilcoat. 

Braxton McGinnis (1-6) competed in Division 2 at 52 pounds. He pinned Tripp Gaches (Cleveland) in 2:39 for his first win of the season, but was defeated 9-3 by Kale Shult (Pryor) and 14-0 by Cash Wiley (Division Bell).

Ty Burdge (2-4) competed in Division 2 at 55 pounds. He was pinned in 2:52 by Braxton Maggard (Sperry) and lost 6-0 to teammate Jayden Bussell, but picked up a 10-0 major decision over Sorenson Crenshaw (Rogers). 

Blake Stewart (1-4) competed in Division 3 at 67 pounds. He scored a 10-8 decision over Easton Olenberger (Bartlesville), but was pinned in 0:44 by Dylan Abbott (Sperry) and 0:35 by Cache Pierson (Bristow). 

Adrian Flores (8-7) competed in Division 3 at 100 pounds and took third place. He majored Adyn Peugh (Collinsville) 9-1, but was pinned in 2:17 by Kole Lamont (Broken Arrow) and majored 13-2 by Jacob Cook (Sperry).

Tyler Smith (1-2) competed in Division 3 at heavyweight and took third place. He pinned Jared Young (Collinsville) in 1:05, but was pinned in 4:05 by Sean Mahoney (Threestyle) and 1:13 by Gunner Wilson (Catoosa). 

David Ritchey (3-7) competed in both Division 3 and Division 4 at 64 pounds. In Division 3 he scored a 9-4 decision over James Shelton (Sperry), but was majored 12-0 by Bryson Humphries (Catoosa) and edged out 2-1 by Keegan Herring (Sperry). In Division 4 he was defeated 15-4 by Canon Acklin (Collinsville), 2-1 by James Shelton (Sperry), and 2-0 by Jacob Caviness (Stilwell).

Colt Cothran (2-7) competed in Division 3 at 58 pounds. He was pinned in 2:37 by Ashton Davis (Muskogee) and 0:40 by Camden Whitby (Collinsville). 

Landyn Barnes (5-2) competed in Division 3 at 67 pounds. He was pinned in 0:18 by Jake Wassom (Pryor) and decisioned 8-4 by Cache Pierson (Bristow). 

Zane Swafford (0-2) competed in Division 3 at 70 pounds. He gave up an 8-0 major decision to Blade Walden (Muskogee) and was pinned in 0:56 by Treshaun Tecson (Tulsa WC). 

Joey Marris (0-2) competed in Division 4 at 80 pounds. He was pinned in 1:10 by Jayce Caviness (Stilwell) and 1:34 by Case Carlile (Catoosa).

Sean Preas (0-2) competed in Division 5 at 76 pounds. He was pinned in 1:50 by Nakaylen Shabazz (Flores) and 2:18 by Ethan Peterson (Sapulpa).

Jacob Burdette (2-4) competed in Division 5 at 113 pounds. He was pinned in 4:29 by Rowdy Waits (Sperry), 2:12 by Cooper Park (Sperry), and 0:41 by Seth Jackson (Sperry).

Sixteen Sand Springs wrestlers take first-place at Sapulpa Tournament

Forty three members of the Sand Springs Team Big elementary wrestling crew competed at the USA Oklahoma Wrestling Tournament at Sapulpa this past weekend, and sixteen took first place in their division. 

Zander Grigsby (8-1) competed in Division 3 at 61 pounds and took first place. He pinned Mason Lapham (Owasso) in 0:18, received a forfeit in the quarterfinal, then pinned Gunner Murray (Claremore) in 2:22 before posting a 9-2 decision over Isaiah Jones (Glenpool) in the finals. 

Cael Knight (4-0) competed in Division 1 Novice at 60 pounds and took first place with four pins. He defeated Preston Hollis (Claremore) in 1:22, Axl Branham (Vian) in 1:21, Josiah Moss (Berryhill) in 2:23, and Preston Hollis (Claremore) in 2:55. 

Skyler Wood (6-0) competed in Division 2 Novice at 64 pounds and took first place. He pinned Drake Blue (Sperry) in 0:45, then won a close 8-6 sudden victory round against Seth Inso (Berryhill). He defeated Brody Stevenson (Glenpool) 5-0 and Payson Robinson (Sapulpa) 6-1 for his second first-place finish this season. 

Jaxon Grigsby (7-0) competed in Division 2 at 49 pounds and won his second-straight tournament with three pins. He defeated Donnie Burgett (Sapulpa) in 0:58, Malaki Venetoff (Berryhill) in 2:33, and Naoh Neal (Glenpool) in 1:30.

Kaden Pope (3-0) competed in Division 2 at 55 pounds and won all three matches by pin. He defeated Bodie Elam (Pryor) in 3:00, teammate Daxton Smith in 1:30, and Kasen Whiteley (Stilwell) in 2:07 for first place. 

Abraham Flores (7-1) competed in Division 4 at 100 pounds and won all three matches by pin. He defeated Kylar Bearpaw (Sapulpa) in 4:22, Kevin Lund (Glenpool) in 1:25, and Jesse Lichtenberger (OWA) in 4:11. This is his second first-place finish this season.

Matthew Moore (4-3) competed in Division 3 Novice at 58 pounds and took first place. He pinned Luis Flores (Sapulpa) in 1:51 and teammate Joshua Spurgeon in 0:48, then scored a 16-9 decision over Elijah Montgomery (Sapulpa).

Landyn Barnes (5-0) competed in Division 3 Novice at 67 pounds and took first place for the second time this season. He pinned Andrew Winkle (Coweta) in 1:31 and Kursten Burns (Bristow) in 0:22 and scored a 15-0 tech fall over Mavrick Aunko (Collinsville).

Jesse Moore (5-1) competed in Division 3 Novice at 76 pounds and took first place with three pins. He defeated Braylen Miller (Sapulpa) in 2:39, Karleigh Blankenship (Owasso) in 2:28, and Mia Fruits (Bristow) in 0:20.

Tabor Reiss (7-1) competed in Division 1 at 37 pounds and took first place with three pins. He defeated Tennessee James (Sapulpa) in 0:27, Ivy Mullin (Stilwell) in 0:19, and teammate Bentley Cole in 1:11 for his second first-place finish this season. 

Robert Burke (7-2) competed in Division 3 at 64 pounds and took first place. He defeated Michael Blendowski (Catoosa) by 11-3 major decision and pinned Mason Moore (Owasso) in 1:09. This is his second first-place finish this season. 

Dariuz Black (5-1) competed in Division 3 at 73 pounds and took first place with a pair of technical falls. He defeated Andrew Haynes (Glenpool) 15-0 and Aiden Wolfe (Pryor) 18-2. 

Jayden Pait (2-0) competed in Division 4 Novice at 64 pounds and drew only one competitor. He pinned Justin Kendall (Sapulpa) in 0:36 and 0:34 in a best-of-three series for first place. 

Ryder Barnes (5-0) competed in Division 4 Novice at 100 pounds and drew only one competitor. He pinned Kaleb Simmers (Sapulpa) in 0:27 and 1:44 for his second first-place finish this season. 

Ayreson Reiss (3-4) competed in Division 3 at 52 pounds and took first place. He pinned Parker Warren (Collinsville) in 3:18 and Cavin Peper (Sapulpa) in 2:14. 

Jacob Lewis (2-2) competed in Division 4 Novice at 88 pounds and took first place. He pinned Cameron Smith (Bristow) in 0:34 and Ashlyn Estes (Sapulpa) in 2:12.

Ryder Flores (7-1) competed in Division 1 Novice at 40 pounds and took third place. He lost his opening match in a 4-1 decision to Noah Thompson (Coweta), but rebounded with four-straight pins. He defeated Noah White (Pryor) in 0:55, Camden Reid (Pryor) in 0:16, Rylan Sams (Sapulpa) in 1:45, and Rowden Benavidez (Sperry) in 0:29.

Daxton Smith (3-1) competed in Division 2 at 55 pounds and took third place. He won his opening match with a 6-4 sudden-victory overtime decision over Kale Fruits (Bristow), but was pinned in 1:30 in the next round by teammate Kaden Pope. In the consolations he pinned Bodie Elam (Pryor) in 1:14.

Bentley Cole (2-1) competed in Division 1 at 37 pounds and took second place. He won his first two matches by pin, taking down William Thompson (Sapulpa) in 0:07 and teammate Wyatt Stott in 0:23, before falling in 1:11 to teammate Tabor Reiss. 

Adrian Flores (7-5) competed in Division 3 at 100 pounds and took second place. He pinned Brennan Watkins (Sapulpa) in 1:30 and scored a 5-2 decision over Kylar Bearpaw (Sapulpa) before falling 13-2 to Jacob Cook (Sperry). 

Dawsen Briscoe (2-1) competed in Division 3 at 58 pounds and took second place. He lost his first match in an 18-7 major decision to Cole Vaughan (Cushing), but rebounded with a 9-2 decision over teammate Colt Cothran and pinned Camden Whitby (Collinsville) in 2:03.

Brody Wofford (2-1) competed in Division 1 Novice at 55 pounds and took second place. He pinned Kelly Tabor (Berryhill) in 0:37 and defeated teammate Hayden Luce by 7-2 decision before falling 15-5 to Sheldin Kelly (Owasso).

Joshua Spurgeon (9-2) competed in Division 3 Novice at 58 pounds and took second place. He won a 16-14 sudden victory round over Elijah Montgomery (Sapulpa) and pinned Luis Flores (Sapulpa) in 1:21, but was pinned in 0:48 by teammate Matthew Moore.

Hunter Spencer (2-1) competed in Division 2 at 61 pounds and took third place. He lost his first match 11-6 to Seth Kysar (Cleveland), but won out with an 0:34 pin of Mack Powell (Bristow) and a 6-3 decision over Tohmi Carney (Broken Arrow).

Carter Wood (2-3) competed in Division 2 at 67 pounds and took third place. He lost his first match in a 9-7 sudden victory round against Dane Jensen (Claremore), but won out with pins of 0:59 and 2:33 against Cooper Barrington (Berryhill) and William Cade (Coweta), respectively. 

Evan Williams (8-3) competed in Division 3 Novice at 90 pounds and took second place. He pinned Cain Clay (Bristow) in 0:34 and scored a 12-5 decision over Christopher Harris (Owasso) before falling 4-0 to Jack White (Berryhill).

Dallas Flores (2-2) competed in Division 2 at 67 pounds and took second place. He pinned Cooper Barrington (Berryhill) in 0:50, but lost a 6-5 decision to Dane Jensen (Claremore).

David Cline (2-3) competed in Division 2 Novice at 70 pounds and took second place. He was pinned in 0:33 by Hudson Claggett (Bristow) and in-turn pinned Braden Cook (Sapulpa) in 0:30.

Chase Kelley (1-1) competed in Division 4 Novice at 130 pounds and took second place. He was pinned in 0:35 by Caleb Turner (Sapulpa) and he won a 7-5 decision over Brady Rodgers (Coweta). 

Samuel Moore (8-4) competed in Division 1 Novice at 46 pounds and took fourth place. He pinned Jonathan Valadez (Sperry) in 0:44 and Hudson Williams (Pryor) in 0:24 before giving up a 9-0 major decision to Luke Boren (Claremore). In the consolation bracket he pinned teammate Aaerick Collins in 2:18 before falling in 1:41 to Blake Ketcher (Pryor) in the third-place match. 

Aaerick Collins (7-6) competed in Division 1 Novice at 46 pounds. He pinned Jerzy Wren (Claremore) in 1:48, but was sent to the consolation bracket after a 12-6 decision to Blake Ketcher (Pryor). He snapped back with an 18-10 major decision over Julian Keys (Catoosa) and pinned Liam Kunkle (Catoosa) in 2:36 before falling in 2:18 to teammate Samuel Moore.

Bennett Mikles (3-2) competed in Division 1 Novice at 49 pounds. He pinned John Draffin (Sapulpa) in 0:32, but was defeated 8-6 in the next round by Karson Johnson (Berryhill). He scored a 7-2 win over Isaiah Wilderson (Claremore) and an 11-4 decision over Liam Chism (Coweta) before falling in 1:44 to Kayson Graham (Pryor).

Dayne Ficken (2-2) competed in Division 2 Novice at 55 pounds and took fourth place. He defeated teammate Blayton Collins 7-0 and pinned Axton Stevenson (Glenpool) in 0:34, but fell in 0:52 to Colten Smith (Vian) and 1:43 to Landyn Smith (Berryhill). 

Colt Cothran (2-5) competed in Division 3 at 58 pounds and took third place. He won his opening match with a 6-5 decision over Camden Whitby (Collinsville), but was defeated 9-2 by teammate Dawsen Briscoe and 7-4 by Cole Vaughan (Cushing). 

Hayden Luce (3-3) competed in Division 1 Novice at 55 pounds and took third place. He lost a 16-4 major decision to Sheldin Kelly (Owasso) and a 7-2 decision to teammate Brody Wofford, but pinned Kelly Tabor (Berryhill) in 0:17.

Wyatt Stott (1-2) competed in Division 1 at 37 pounds and took fourth place. He pinned Tennessee James (Sapulpa) in 0:43, but was in-turn pinned in 0:23 and 0:47 by teammate Bentley Cole and Ivy Mullin (Stilwell), respectively.

Easton Tanner (1-4) competed in Division 1 Novice at 40 pounds. He was pinned in 0:33 by Noah White (Pryor), but rebounded with a 17-0 tech fall over Wyatt Woodson (Owasso) before falling 27-16 to Knox Lopez (Pryor).

Jaxton Grundy (6-5) competed in Division 1 Novice at 43 pounds. He won his opening match 16-10 over Max Dunkelberger (Sapulpa) before falling in 1:25 to Aiyden Robertson (Claremore) and 0:40 to Kyson Buckner (Sapulpa).

Blayton Collins (3-8) competed in Division 2 Novice at 55 pounds. He was defeated 7-0 by teammate Dayne Ficken and gave up a close 6-4 decision to DJ Colley (Glenpool). 

Brody Wilson (0-2) competed in Division 2 at 61 pounds. He was pinned in 0:58 by Jase Loftis (Pryor) and lost a 7-2 decision to Mack Powell (Bristow).

Bryher Collins (1-4) competed in Division 1 Novice at 37 pounds. He was pinned in 0:32 by Mekko Stites (Berryhill) and 0:29 by Rocco Tyler (Berryhill).

Ivan Barham (0-3) competed in Division 3 Novice at 85 pounds. He was pinned in 1:53 by Mathew Franklin (Owasso) and 0:54 by Garritt Hunt (Vian), and gave up a 9-0 major decision to Couper Daniels (Pryor). 

Trey Scott (0-4) competed in Division 3 at 61 pounds. He was pinned in 0:43 by Isaiah Jones (Glenpool) and 3:37 by Gunner Murray (Claremore) and forfeited two rounds. 

Moore, Flores, Furr, Spurgeon all take first place at Team Neo Tournament

Fourteen members of the Sand Springs Team Big wrestling club competed at the OKUSA Team Neo Tournament at Union Intermediate High School recently, and four took first place in their division. Samuel Moore, Ryder Flores, Bentley Furr, and Joshua Spurgeon all took home the gold.

Samuel Moore (5-2) competed in Division 1 Novice at 46 pounds and took first place. He won a close 8-7 decision over Corde Williams (Bristow), pinned Gunner Killingsworth (Warner) in 0:16 and Jonathan Valadez (Sperry) in 1:11, then defeated Weston Little (Bristow) 11-7.

Ryder Flores (3-0) competed in Division 1 Novice at 40 pounds and took first place. He won a close 10-7 decision over Johnny Ray Ashcroft (Bartlesville), pinned Barry Ritter Jr. (Coweta) in 0:19, then defeated Zaden Emerson (Catoosa) 15-8.

Bentley Furr (6-2) competed in Division 1 Novice at 60 pounds and drew only two competitors. He pinned John Harvill (Cushing) in 0:45, then won a close 9-8 decision over Xander Maggard (Sperry) for his second first-place finish this season. 

Joshua Spurgeon (7-1) competed in Division 3 Novice at 58 pounds and drew only two competitors. He won a close 9-7 decision over teammate Mathew Moore, then majored Jimmy Groden (Coweta) 8-0 for first place. 

Brysyn Jones (6-4) competed in Division 2 Novice at 43 pounds. He pinned Santos Valencia (Collinsville) in 1:22, but was in-turn pinned in 0:16 and 0:27 by Cody Horner (Sapulpa) and Benson Hunt (Warner), respectively.

Jesse Moore (2-1) competed in Division 3 Novice at 76 pounds and took second place. He defeated Clay McKiddy (Cushing) 15-8, then pinned Reece McCutchen (Sperry) in 0:58 before giving up a close 5-3 decision to Cable Golden (Collinsville). 

Evan Williams (6-2) competed in Division 3 Novice at 90 pounds and took second place. He won a 7-1 decision over Jackson O'Kelley (Cushing), then pinned Christopher Akers (Sperry) in 0:19 before falling 14-2 to David Cooper (Bartlesville).

Sammy Naugle (4-4) competed in Division 4 Open at 88 pounds and took third place. He lost a 16-4 major decision to Eli Zar (Terminator WC), but came back to pin Blake Radford (NEO) in 2:45, then won a close 1-0 decision over teammate Ethan Norton.

Dallas Flores (1-1) competed in Division 2 Novice at 67 pounds and drew only two competitors. He pinned Bryce Ward (Cushing) in 4:!7, but lost a close 8-6 sudden-victory overtime match to Dane Jensen (Claremore) and took second place.

Matthew Moore (1-3) competed in Division 3 Novice and drew only two competitors. He lost his opening match 9-7 to teammate Joshua Spurgeon, but rebounded with a 7-6 decision over Jimmy Groden (Coweta) for second place. 

Aiden Wilkerson (1-1) competed in Division 3 Novice and drew only two competitors. He won his opening match with an 8-1 decision over John McDougal (Bristow), but lost 6-3 to Dylon Link (Cushing) to take second place.

David Cline (1-2) competed in Division 2 Novice at 70 pounds. He lost his first match in a close 4-1 decision to William Cade (Coweta), but rebounded with a 14-0 major decision over Jaxson Matthews (Owasso) before falling in 2:42 to Griffin Goins (Broken Arrow). 

Colt Cothran (1-3) competed in Division 3 Open at 55 pounds. He was defeated 9-0 by Cayden Cupps (Catoosa) and 6-0 by Cavin Peper (Sapulpa).

Ethan Norton (4-6) competed in Division 4 Open at 88 pounds. He was pinned in 0:50 by Kai Shultz (Pryor) and gave up a close 1-0 decision to teammate Sammy Naugle for fourth place.
