The No. 1 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team got off to a solid start at the OSSAA 6A State Championship Friday afternoon at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. Eight of the eleven State Qualifiers won their first round matches, and the Sandites had the top team score by a narrow margin over the defending State Champions from No. 2 Choctaw. 

It's a three-way race for the top with Choctaw and No. 3 Broken Arrow right behind the Sandites. The Yellowjackets and Tigers each have six wrestlers remaining in the championship bracket.

106-pound sophomore Riley Weir (39-6 season, 60-18 career) met Edmond North freshman Nate Becker (22-13) in his quarterfinal. Weir took a 5-1 lead into the second period and started on bottom, then quickly reversed in the first twenty seconds. He did it again to start the third period and held on for a 9-1 major decision. He will face Choctaw freshman Gabe Johnson (34-6) in the semifinals.

113 senior Tanner Ward (33-10, 109-22) took on Mustang sophomore Cameron Picklo (29-8) and recorded a takedown in the first twenty seconds, then cut his foe loose soon after. He snagged another score midway through the first period, added a pair of back points, cut his opponent loose, then took him down again to end the first period 8-3. Picklo started the second period on top and Ward easily got the escape, then added a takedown soon after. Picklo got a reversal and nearly put the Sandite in danger, but Ward managed to stay off his back and recovered for a reversal and 14-5 third period lead. The final stretch started neutral and Ward picked up a couple more takedowns for a 16-5 major decision. He will face Westmoore senior Canon Randall (36-4) in the semifinals.

120 senior Michael Ritchey (36-10, 65-34) and Choctaw junior Andy Schlaepfer (27-16) hit the mat early and struggled for control, ending up in a stalemate before the Sandite finally came out on top with seven seconds left. They started the second period neutral and it went the same as the first, hotly contested with one stalemate, and one Sandite takedown, once again in the final ten seconds. Ritchey started the final period on bottom and escaped thirty seconds in, then took control with a minute left and held on for the 7-0 decision. He will face Edmond North senior Paxton Rosen (36-2) in the semifinals.

126 junior Blake Sargent (37-10, 89-24) battled Choctaw junior Connor Holman (35-6) and gave up a takedown late in the first period. He started the second period on top and cut his opponent loose early on, then Holman added another pair of points towards the end and took a 5-0 lead into the final stretch. Sargent started the third period on the defensive end and escaped in the first few seconds, but was unable to score. Holman added another takedown, Sargent cut loose, and the Yellowjacket won by 7-2 decision. He will face Ponca City sophomore Spencer Schickram (37-9) in the consolationquarterfinal.

132 Oklahoma State University-signed senior Daton Fix (45-0, 163-0) easily handled Midwest City senior Marquez Edwards (24-8), scoring a takedown for nearfall points in the first thirty seconds. He cut his foe loose, scored, cut him loose again, scored again, and continued to run up the score to 11-3 at the end of the first period. He started the second with a reversal and secured the pin in 2:43. He will face Ponca City junior Dylan Schickram (38-12) in the semis.

138 senior Jack Karstetter (30-1, 103-16) had a scrappy competitor in Edmond Memorial junior Connor Simpson (21-8). The Sandite handily prevailed, however, taking a 7-0 lead into the second period with two sets of back points. He started on bottom and immediately escaped five seconds in, then added a second takedown for a 10-1 third period advantage. He reversed to start the final stretch and cut Simpson loose to look for bonus points, but the two remained neutral and Karstetter got the 12-2 major decision. He will face Ponca City senior Dawson Hunt (29-14) in the semifinals.

145 senior Beau Bratcher (43-7, 134-30) battled Westmoore sophomore Zach Johnson (25-7) and scored his first takedown at the minute mark. He started the second period on defense and scored an early escape and held on for a 3-0 lead in the third. Johnson selected defense, and remained there for the duration, giving Bratcher a 3-0 decision. He will face Yukon senior and defending State Champion Jaxen Gilmore (27-2) in the semifinals.

152 junior Payton Scott (37-3, 58-11) took on Choctaw junior Jeff Speer (16-8) and scored a takedown in the first thirty seconds, and cut his foe loose immediately. He added two more by the end of the first and entered the second stretch 6-2. He started with an immediate escape, then took Speer down for a fall at 2:19. He will take on Midwest City senior Rober Walker (28-6) in the semifinals.

160 sophomore Noah Almy (24-18) took on Choctaw junior and defending State Champion Jaryn Curry (35-3) and gave up an early takedown, but escaped soon after. Curry added another score and cut the Sandite loose, then repeated for a 6-3 lead. Almy started the second period on top, but Curry broke free and scored another trio of takedowns in the first minute and entered the third period with a 15-6 lead. They started neutral and Curry scored a takedown and a pair of back points before securing the 22-7 tech fall in 4:58 after a stalling penalty on Almy. The Sandite will return to action against Edmond Santa Fe junior Williams Depona (16-13) in the consolation quarterfinals.

170 senior Zane Basma (26-4, 88-29) gave up an early takedown to Edmond Memorial junior Sam Hensley (36-7), but quickly escaped and scored his own takedown for a trio of nearfall points. The Sandite started the second period neutral with a 6-2 lead, but gave up another takedown at the end of the period. Basma started the final stanza on bottom and quickly escaped, but Hensley scored a last second takedown for back points for the 9-7 decision. Basma will take on Ponca City junior Lane Newlin (31-14) in the consolation quarterfinal.

220 senior Delvin Jordan (43-2, 74-14) took on Westmoore senior Jonathan Martinez (15-8) and the two were evenly matched through the first. Jordan took a 1-0 lead with a second period escape then added a takedown soon after. Slow and steady won the race and Jordan worked his foe into a cradle at 3:42. He will take on Choctaw junior Caulin Poole (25-10) in the semifinals.

The first round of consolations will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the semifinals at 7:15 p.m.

Riley Weir won the East Regional, pinning Jackson Cockrell and TJ Long. Braden Fowler won the West Regional, defeating Gabe Johnson 1-0 and pinning Garrett Steidley. Johnson was the West Runner-Up and recorded an 18-3 tech fall against Nate Becker. Long cut from 113 and placed second at the East Regional, pinning Austin Hall and defeating Corwin Strachan 11-7. Steidley placed third in the West and majored Becker 9-1. Cockrell placed third in the East, defeating Hall 7-4 and Strachan 2-1. Becker placed fourth in the West and Strachan placed fourth in the East.

The top-ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team won their second-straight 6A-East Regional Championship Saturday evening at the Ed Dubie Field House, qualifying eleven wrestlers for State. This is their third tournament win this season.

The Sandites had a great start to the Regional Friday, sending nine wrestlers to the finals—one more than the previous year. They had a rough time Saturday, however, losing several toss-up matches and crowning only four champions compared to the seven they had last year. Last year they sent only eight wrestlers to State and took third place as a team, so with eleven qualifiers this year they’re in good shape to make a run at their first State Championship since 1971.

The OSSAA State Tournament will held next weekend at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The first rounds will be wrestled Friday at 10:30 a.m., followed by the semifinals and first round of consolations at 5:00 p.m. The consolation semifinals will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by consolation finals at 12:45 p.m. and finals at 5:45 p.m.

Sophomore Riley Weir (38-6 season, 59-18 career) qualified for State for the second-straight year, winning his bracket at Regionals with four-straight pins. He recorded the fastest pin of his career against Capitol Hill’s Chrisma Collins in only twelve seconds, the pinned Stillwater’s Henry Warren and Broken Arrow’s Jackson Cockrell. In the finals he was pitted against Union sophomore TJ Long. Long was briefly featured in FloWrestling’s top-twenty national rankings earlier this season after winning the Geary Invitational, but the Sandite had little difficulty in securing his nineteenth pin of the season in 4:33. Weir placed third at last year’s Regional but didn’t place at State.

Oklahoma State University-signed senior Daton Fix (44-0, 162-0) had zero difficulty in securing his fourth-straight Regional Championship. He continued his undefeated career with two falls and two technical falls. He pinned Stillwater’s John Ritchey in 2:14 then worked up a 22-7 tech fall against Southmoore’s Joe Reynolds in 2:38. In the semifinals he pinned Owasso’s two-time State Qualifier Baylor Smith in 3:46, then scored another 22-7 tech fall against two-time State Qualifier Sam Avant of Norman North in 3:53. Fix is aiming to be the first four-time State Champion in Sand Springs history.

Senior Jack Karstetter (29-1, 102-16) won his third-straight Regional Championship, qualifying for State for the third time. He pinned Norman North Conner Mares-Ballard in the quarterfinal, then served up an 11-3 major decision against Ponca City senior Dawson Hunt. In the finals he was pitted against three-time State Qualifier Tyler Dieringer of Stillwater. The two were equally matched throughout and neither was able to score a takedown. After neither took a lead through the sudden victory round or the tie breaker period, Karstetter won with an escape in the first ultimate tie-breaker period. He failed to place at State as a sophomore, but came in Runner-Up last year.

Senior Delvin Jordan (42-2, 73-14) won his second-straight Regional Championship, qualifying for State for the third time. He breezed through his first three foes, pinning Booker T. Washington’s Cameron Douglass in 1:22, Enid’s Brock Anderson in 0:42, and Ponca City’s Austin Fry in 2:34. In the finals he took on defending State Champion Skyler Haynes, of Broken Arrow, and prevailed 3-2 in tie-breaker overtime. He was a Regional Runner-Up as a freshman, but didn’t place at State. He missed most of his sophomore year with an injury. Last year he won the Regional Championship by pinning the defending State Champion from Bixby, but was unable to compete at State.

Senior Tanner Ward (32-10, 108-22) qualified for State for the fourth-straight year, coming in Runner-Up at Regionals. He pinned Jenks’s Jared Miller in 1:52 in the quarterfinals and Norman North’s Yves Worou in the semis before falling 11-8 to three-time State Qualifier Brandon Blose, of Sapulpa. A transfer from Berryhill, Ward placed third at 3A State as a freshman and was a State Runner-Up the past two years.

Senior Michael Ritchey (35-10, 64-34) qualified for State for the second-straight year, coming in Runner-Up at Regionals. He pinned Bixby’s Ainslie Lane and Enid’s Hunter McGee in the first two rounds, then prevailed 5-1 over Laif Jones of Bartlesville in the semifinals. In the final round he was pitted against Broken Arrow two-time State Qualifier Tyler Lawley in a rematch of their Dual State bout. The two were perfectly matched throughout and finished the third period without a single point scored. They went through the sudden victory round still neutral, but Lawley got the upper hand in the first tie-breaker period and prevailed by 2-0 decision. Ritchey won Regionals last year but didn’t place at State.

Senior Beau Bratcher (43-6, 134-29) qualified for State for the fourth-straight year, coming in Runner-Up at Regionals. He pinned Bartlesville senior Jeremy Wingate in 0:33 and Sapulpa sophomore Colton Konell in 1:32, then topped Broken Arrow freshman Brady Mattioda 8-1. In the finals he was pitted against three-time State Qualifier and former Louisiana State Champion Kendon Lee of Stillwater. Neither scored a takedown in regulation, but Lee got the upper hand in sudden victory overtime and prevailed 3-1. Bratcher placed third at Regionals as a freshman and took first place the past two years. He failed to place at State the first two years, but was last year’s Runner-Up.

Junior Payton Scott (38-2, 59-10) qualified for State for the second-straight year, coming in Runner-Up at Regionals. He pinned Stillwater’s Parker Nicholas in 0:33, Jenks’s Colt Freeman in 0:55, and Owasso’s Richie Lee in 0:56. In the finals he was pitted against Ezequiel Rubio of Ponca City, but was upset 7-5 in sudden victory overtime. Scott won Regionals as a sophomore and placed fourth at State.

Senior Zane Basma (26-3, 88-28) qualified for State for the third-straight year, coming in Runner-Up at Regionals. He made quick work of his first three opponents, pinning Bixby’s Christian Shubert in 0:49, Owasso’s Brandon Dugan in 1:38, and Union’s Darius Boone in 1:51. In the finals he took on defending State Champion Christian Bahl, of Stillwater. The Pioneer got the upper hand with a 3-0 decision. Basma also placed second at last year’s Regional and placed third at State.

Junior Blake Sargent (37-9, 89-23) qualified for State for the second-straight year, placing third at Regionals. He won his first two matches by fall, pinning Enid’s Logan Herell in 1:23 and Booker T. Washington’s Elijah Harrigan in 1:19, before falling 3-1 in sudden victory overtime to Bixby’s two-time State Qualifier Easton Hudson. In the consolations he defeated Owasso senior Wyatt Johnson by 4-3 decision, then topped Broken Arrow sophomore Blake Gonzalez 7-3. Last year he won his bracket at Regionals and placed third at State.

Sophomore Noah Almy (24-18) qualified for State for the first time, placing fourth at Regionals. He won his first two matches by fall, pinning Bixby’s Owen DeWoody in 0:38 and Bartlesville’s Austin Manley in 2:40. In the quarterfinals he was forced to forfeit to Broken Arrow’s Caleb Wise with a minor injury, but he came back on day two and topped Owasso junior Nolan Miller 12-10 in sudden victory overtime to make the consolation finals. Already guaranteed a spot at State, he forfeited his final match against Stillwater’s Connor Wilcoxen to avoid aggravating his injury.

Sophomore Luke Bratcher (5-4) won his first match by fall, taking down Jenks’s Naimul Islam in 1:49, but suffered a concussion against Broken Arrow’s Gavin Potter and forfeited his remaining match.

Junior Kris Edwards (5-6) fell to Muskogee’s Jacob Wood in 3:57 in his first round match, but rebounded with a pin of Southmoore’s Jose Ruiz in 1:50. He lost his third match in a close 4-3 decision to Sam Smith of Stillwater.

Junior Gage Fain (26-15, 39-37) went the distance in both of his matches, falling 8-6 to Southmoore’s Jordan Reel in sudden victory overtime, and 4-3 to Stillwater’s Aaron Veselak in the tie-breaker period.

The Charles Page High School wrestling team went nineteen years without winning a Regional Championship before upsetting the Broken Arrow Tigers last year. Now they're poised to potentially win it back-to-back. The No. 1 ranked Sandites advanced nine wrestlers to the finals Friday evening at the Ed Dubie Field House, one more than last year.

Riley Weir, Tanner Ward, Michael Ritchey, Daton Fix, Jack Karstetter, Beau Bratcher, Payton Scott, and Delvin Jordan will all get to defend the Regional titles they claimed last year. Broken Arrow will be their closest competitors with six finalists. Sand Springs is currently leading the pack after day one with a 48.5 point edge on the Tigers.

Weir (37-6 season, 58-18 career) pinned Broken Arrow freshman Jackson Cockrell in 1:36 in the 106 pound semifinals and will take on Union's TJ Long in the finals. Long is ranked second at 113 pounds.

Ward (32-9, 108-21) worked up a massive 12-2 lead in the first period of the 113 semifinals against Norman North senior Yves Worou, then started the second on bottom and reversed. He led 16-3 before pinning his foe in 3:19. He will face Sapulpa senior Brandon Blose in the finals. Blose is currently ranked seventh at 106 pounds and is a two-time State Qualifier. 

Ritchey (35-9, 64-33) took a 5-0 lead into the second period of the 120 semifinals against Bartlesville's Laif Jones and started on bottom. His opponent was never able to score back points, but Ritchey was equally unable to escape. Jones started the final period with an escape but neither scored and Ritchey won the 5-1 decision. He will take on Broken Arrow senior Tyler Lawley in the finals. Lawley is currently ranked third in their weight class. The two split wins last year, with Ritchey winning 3-1 at Regionals, but Lawley won 7-1 at State. They've met only once this year and Lawley got the pin at Dual State. 

Blake Sargent (34-9, 86-23) took on Easton Hudson in the 126 semifinals. They were equally matched throughout the first period, with Sargent taking the lead on a second period escape. Hudson tied it up halfway through the third and the two went into suddenly victory overtime where Hudson got the takedown. Sargent will take on the winner of Logan Herell (Enid) vs Wyatt Johnson (Owasso). He is 2-0 against both wrestlers this season.

Fix (43-0, 161-0) scored six takedowns in the first period of the 132 semifinals against Baylor Smith and led 12-5 to start the second period. The machine-like prodigy pushed it to 21-8 with six nearfall points before finally wrapping up the pin at 3:46. He will wrestle Norman North's Sam Avant in the finals. Fix previously defeated Avant 20-4 at the Geary Invitational.

Karstetter (28-1, 101-16) went the distance with Dawson Hunt in the 138 semifinals and took a 9-2 lead into the final stanza. He added another takedown with thirty seconds left and won by 11-3 major decision. He will take on Stillwater's Tyler Dieringer in the finals. The two haven't met yet this year, but Karstetter won a 3-1 decision in last year's Regional finals.

Beau Bratcher (42-6, 133-29) scored an early takedown against Brady Mattioda in the 145 semifinals and carried a 2-0 advantage into the second period. Mattioda started on bottom and Bratcher  worked him over for a trio of nearfall points, but the Tiger snagged one point on an illegal hold and started the third period on top, trailing 5-1. Bratcher got the escape and added another takedown for an 8-1 decision. He will take on Stillwater's Kendon Lee in the finals. The two have met twice this year, with Lee getting the upper hand in both matches. Both were decided by a single takedown, and one went into sudden victory overtime.

Scott (37-2, 58-10) had zero difficulty in the 152 semifinal and pinned Owasso freshman Richie Lee in 0:56. He will take on Ponca City's Ezequiel Rubio in the finals. Scott is 6-0 against Rubio in his career, and 3-0 this year. Most recently he pinned Rubio in 0:35 at Dual State.

Sophomore Noah Almy (23-17) took on Broken Arrow's Caleb Wise in the 160 semis and defaulted with a shoulder injury in the first period. If he's cleared to wrestle tomorrow he will take on the winner of Nolan Miller (Owasso) vs Chase Kelvington (Jenks). He has yet to meet Miller this season, but he was pinned in 1:10 by Kelvington during a regular season dual.

Zane Basma (26-2, 88-27) picked up his twelfth-straight fall in the 170 semis, pinning Union sophomore Darius Boone in 1:51. He will battle Stillwater's Christian Bahl in the finals. The two have yet to meet this year, but Bahl went 2-0 against Basma last season.  

Luke Bratcher (5-3) sustained an injury in the quarterfinals and forfeited his remaining match.

Gage Fain (26-15, 39-37) went into overtime in back-to-back matches. After falling 8-6 in sudden victory in his quarterfinal match, he took on Stillwater's Aaron Veselak. They remained neutral through the first period and Fain took the lead with a second period escape, then remained neutral till the third. Veselak tied it up twenty seconds into the third period and sent the match into overtime. Neither scored in the sudden victory round, and though Fain escaped in the first tie breaker round, he wasn't able to get a takedown. Veselak escaped in the second tie breaker and scored a takedown, holding on for a 4-3 victory.

Delvin Jordan (41-2, 72-14) took on Ponca City's Austin Fry in the 220 semis and took a 2-0 lead after the first period. He started the second period on top and pinned the Wildcat in 2:34. Jordan will take on Broken Arrow's defending State Champion Skyler Haynes in the finals. The two wrestlers have met once before and Jordan prevailed 4-3 at Dual State.

Kris Edwards (5-5) came back from a first round loss at heavyweight and took a 4-0 first period lead against Southmoore's Jose Ruiz. He pushed his advantage to 7-0 before picking up a fall at 2:50. He will face Stillwater's Sam Smith.

Saturday's matches will begin at noon with the Consolation Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and fifth-place matches. The Finals and Consolation Finals will be held at 6:00 p.m.

The No. 1 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team is off to a good start at the 6A-East Regional Tournament. Eleven of the Sandites fourteen wrestlers went undefeated in the first two rounds Friday morning at the Ed Dubie Field House, and all fourteen are still in contention. The top-four placers in each weight class will qualify for the State Tournament next weekend in Oklahoma City. The Sandites are the defending Regional Champions, defeating Broken Arrow last year on the Tigers' home court. This year the Sandites are in first place thus far, but the Tigers are nipping at their heels, looking to avenge last week's Dual State Championship loss.

The semifinals and second round of consolation will be held at 6:00 PM.

If you blinked, you might have missed Riley Weir (36-6 season, 57-18 career)'s first match. The 106 pound sophomore and returning State Qualifier pinned Chrisma Collins (Capitol Hill) in only twelve seconds. His quarterfinal opponent didn't fare much better. Stillwater's Henry Warren fell in 1:36. Weir will face Broken Arrow's Jackson Cockrell in the semis. He is 3-0 against Cockrell this season.

3A East Regional Champion Tanner Ward (31-9, 107-21) received a bye in the first round of 113, and excelled over Jared Miller (Jenks) in the quarterfinals with multiple sets of nearfall points before securing the fall at 1:52. Ward will face Norman North's Yves Worou in the semis.

Defending Regional Champion Michael Ritchey (34-9, 63-33) took a 4-1 lead over Ainsley Lane (Bixby) into the second period, quickly reversed, and got his pin at 2:21 in the first round of 120. In the quarterfinals he worked up a 6-0 lead against Hunter McGee (Enid) before pinning the plainsman in 1:25. Ritchey will face Laif Jones (Bartlesville) in the semis. He previously defeated Jones 3-1 in last year's Sand Springs Invitational.

Defending Regional Champion Blake Sargent (34-8, 86-22) dominated Logan Herrell (Enid) at 126 for a 7-0 lead with back points before pinning him in 1:23. In the quarterfinals he pinned Elijah Harrigan (Booker T. Washington) in 1:18. Sargent will face Bixby's Easton Hudson in the semis. He previously defeated Hudson 11-0 in the regular season finale.

Three-time Regional and State Champion Daton Fix (42-0, 160-0) had a typical first round match at 132, leading John Ritchey (Stillwater) 14-5 before pinning him at 2:14. In his quarterfinal he scored a 22-7 technical fall against Joe Reynolds (Southmoore) in 2:38. Fix will face Owasso's Baylor Smith in the semis. The last time the two met was in last year's season opener when Fix got the pin.

Defending Regional Champion Jack Karstetter (27-1, 100-16) received a first round bye at 138 and picked up his 100th career win in the quarterfinals, working up an 11-0 lead against Conner Mares-Ballrd (Norman North) before pinning him in 3:45. He will face Dawson Hunt of Ponca City in tonight's semifinal. He just came out on top of a 12-10 decision against Hunt last week at Dual State.

Defending Regional Champion Beau Bratcher (41-6, 132-29) pinned Jeremy Wingate (Bartlesville) in 0:33 at 145 pounds, then topped Colton Konell (Sapulpa) in 1:32. He will face Broken Arrow's Brady Mattioda in the semis. Bratcher is 3-0 against Mattioda this season with two pins and a 4-2 decision at last week's Dual State Championship.

Defending Regional Champion Payton Scott (36-2, 57-10) took a 4-1 lead against Parker Nicholas (Stillwater) before pinning him at 0:32 in the 152 pound weight class. In the quarterfinals he pinned Colt Freeman (Jenks) in 0:55. He will face Owasso's Richie Lee in the semis.

Sophomore Noah Almy (23-16) pinned Owen Dewoody (Bixby) in 0:37 at 160 pounds. He took an 8-0 lead into the second period of his quarterfinal match against Austin Manley (Bartlesville), reversed, and got the fall at 2:39. He will face Broken Arrow's Caleb Wise in the semis. The last time they met Wise pinned Almy in 1:07 at the Dual State Championship.

Zane Basma (25-2, 87-27) pinned Christian Shubert (Bixby) in 0:49 at 170. In the quarterfinals he pinned Owasso's Brandon Dugan in 1:37. He will take on Darius Boone of Union in the semis.

Sophomore Luke Bratcher (5-3) pinned Naimul Islam (Jenks) in 1:48 at 182 and was putting up a tough fight in the quarterfinals before briefly blacking out and forfeiting to Broken Arrow's Gavin Potter. He will take on Muskogee's Cliff Pouncil in the consolations.

Junior Gage Fain (26-14, 39-36) received a first round bye at 195. He was nearly pinned in the second period of his quarterfinal bout with Jordan Reel (Southmoore), but came out of a nearfall for a reverse and entered the third period trailing 4-2. The Pioneer started on bottom and Fain cut him loose to look for a takedown. He nearly got one at 0:45 but was ruled out of bounds. He scored two with 25 seconds left, cut his foe loose, and added another with a second left to force overtime. In the sudden victory period the Pioneer score the takedown and prevailed 8-6. Fain will wrestle Stillwater's Aaron Veselak in the consolations.

Defending Regional Champion Delvin Jordan (40-2, 71-14) pinned Cameron Douglass (Booker T. Washington) in 1:21 at 220, then pinned Brock Anderson (Enid) in 0:42. He will face Ponca City's Austin Fry in the semis. He is 4-0 against Fry this season with three falls and a 5-1 decision. Most recently he pinned Fry in a mere ten seconds at Dual State.

Kris Edwards (4-5) was the only Sandite to lose his first round match, and he was heavily outsized, wrestling up at heavyweight as a true 220 or 195. He was pinned in 3:56 by Jakob Wood of Muskogee. Edwards will take on Southmoore's Jose Ruiz in the consolations. 

Sand Springs Elementary Wrestling wins State Championship with 20 finalists

While the Charles Page High School wrestling team was winning their first Dual State Wrestling Championship in Shawnee this past weekend, the Sand Springs Team Big wrestling program was winning the Oklahoma USA Youth Wrestling League State Championship an hour down the road in Norman. 48 Sandite elementary wrestlers competed at the event, twenty made the finals, and eleven walked away as State Champions. Needless to say, the future of Sand Springs wrestling is as bright as ever.

Youth wrestling is not split up by school size, but has five age divisions and two classifications. Division One is for ages six and under, Division Two is ages eight and under, Division Three is ages ten and under, Division Four is ages twelve and under, and Division Five is ages fifteen and under. Inexperienced wrestlers compete at the Novice level until they win a certain number of medals for their age division, then they move up to the Open classification. 

Balance Johnson (10-0) competed in Division Three Open at 110 pounds and took first place with three pins. He topped Aidan Hays (Broken Arrow) in 2:04, Logan Richard (Mustang) in 2:03, and Treg Bowman (Stillwater) in 2:55.

Rhett Peak (22-9) competed in Division Four Open at 76 pounds and took first place. He received a medical forfeit from Will Simms (Bellator), then pinned Jaxon Klaassen (Weatherford) in 0:44. In the finals he topped Josey Jernegan (Sperry) 7-2 in sudden victory overtime. 

Bentley Cole (13-2) competed in Division One Open at 37 pounds and took first place. He majored Gabriel Sharp (Broken Arrow) 12-1 in the semifinals, then edged out teammate Tabor Reiss 9-8 in the finals.

Jayden Bussell (16-3) competed in Division One Open at 55 pounds and took first place. He defeated Elijah Davis (Moore) 7-0 in the semifinals and came out on top of a 6-4 sudden victory decision against Cash Province (Edmond).

Will Meredith (24-5) competed in Division Two Open at 43 pounds and took first place. He defeated Ty Walter (Bixby) 9-3 in the semifinal, then pinned Landon Woodard (Sperry) in 2:37. 

Clayton Giddens (39-2) competed in Division Four Open at 64 pounds and took first place. He teched Caydon Miller (Sapulpa) 16-0, then majored Lawson Knox (Marlow) 8-0.

Owen Martin (26-3) competed in Division Four Open at 67 pounds and took first place with less than a minute on the mat. He pinned Blake Hawthorne (Bethany) in 0:30 and Andrew Havens (Sperry) in 0:22.

Ethan White (10-16) competed in Division Four Open at 120 pounds and took first place. He teched Gatlin Wilson (Stillwater) 16-1, then topped Corey Chilcoat (Catoosa) 4-2 in sudden victory. 

Blake Jones (23-7) competed in Division Five Open at 100 pounds and took second place. He pinned Justus Pribyl (Little Axe) in 2:18, then topped Parker Brown (Tuttle) 5-2 in the quarterfinal. In the semis he was defeated 4-2 by Levi Buckridge (Bethany), but he snapped back with a 5-2 decision over Dregen Murray (Little Axe) and pinned Manny Rogers (Del City) in 3:29 to win the consolations. In the second-place challenge match he majored Reese Davis (Tuttle) 11-3. 

Asher Giddens (16-9) competed in Division One Open at 43 pounds and took second place. He won his quarterfinal match against Daniel Porter (Sperry) 15-9, but fell in 0:21 to Gannon Wilson (Catoosa) in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket he topped Jon Zerzavy (Cache) 9-7, then won the consolation finals 12-9 over Porter. In the second-place challenge match he defeated Tristyn Ulloa (Lawton) 5-2.

Grady Mittasch (41-10) competed in Division Three Open at 67 pounds and took second place. He pinned Cason Rumley (Tuttle) in 0:27 in the quarterfinal, but was edged out 11-10 by Blade Walden (Muskogee). In the consolations he majored Thomas Webb (Davis) 12-0 and topped Logan Hargrove (Catoosa) 6-0. He challenged Keller Kizarr (Marlow) for second place and prevailed 6-0.

Michael Johnson (3-1) competed in Division Three Open at 58 pounds and took second place. He pinned teammate Zander Grigsby in 2:59 and Kylor Edwards (Moore) in 2:45 before being edged out 2-1 by Ashton Davis (Muskogee) in the finals. In the challenge match he went into overtime with Javin Douglas (Bethany), but got the takedown for a 2-0 sudden victory decision. 

Tabor Reiss (17-3) competed in Division One Open at 37 pounds and took second place. He pinned Ivy Mullin (Stillwell) in 0:18 in the semifinal, but fell 9-8 to teammate Bentley Cole in the finals. In the second-place challenge match he majored Gabriel Sharp (Broken Arrow) 14-1.

Jaxon Grigsby (27-6) competed in Division Two Open at 49 pounds and took second place. He pinned Axton Vanbrunt (Westmoore) in 3:19, then topped Revin Fipps (Stillwater) 7-5 in sudden victory overtime before falling to Mason Burnham in 2:27 in the finals.

Promised Johnson (4-3) competed in Division Two Open at 64 pounds and took second place. He rolled over Max Harland (Berryhill) with a 17-1 technical fall, then topped Juan Ybarra (Altus) 4-0 before falling 5-1 to Daxton Sullivan (Bristow) in the finals.

Christian Forbes (14-9) competed in Division Five Open at 76 pounds and took second place. He pinned Riddick Nash (Del City) in 1:23, then topped Kaden Smith (Mustang) 5-0 before falling 10-0 to Guy Clevenger (Catoosa) in the finals. 

Dariuz Black (26-14) competed in Division Three Open at 73 pounds and took third place. He narrowly topped Maddax Mobly (Sulphur) 2-1 in the quarterfinals, but fell 3-1 to Hudson Sheppard (Cushing) in the semis. In the consolation bracket he topped Kaden Wallace (Moore) 2-0 and Charles Shafer (Cache) 5-4.

Hunter Spencer (25-11) competed in Division Two Open at 61 pounds and took third place. He pinned Silas Keeling (Weatherford) in 0:29 and Levi Dickison (Edmond) in 0:41, then topped Caden Johnson (Stillwater) with a 4-2 decision before falling 9-0 to Jaedan Adams (Stillwater) in the finals. In the second-place challenge match he was topped 4-2 by Gunner Murray (Claremore). 

Riley Magee (7-4) competed in Division Five Open at 190 pounds and took fourth place. He pinned Nathan Wahl (Blanchard) in 1:15 before falling 4-2 to Keegan Demario (Del City) in the quarterfinal. In the consolations he pinned Chubba Davis (Harrah) in 1:31, Kevin Davis (Muskogee) in 1:57, and Asher Havens (Sperry) in 2:54. In the finals he was defeated 4-1 in a rematch with Demario. 

Robert Burke (22-8) competed in Division Three Open at 64 pounds and took fourth place. He dominated James Shelton (Sperry) 15-0, then topped Devon Miller (Stillwater) 2-0 in the quarterfinal before falling 5-2 to Bryson Humphries (Catoosa). In the consolations he topped Dylan Abbott (Sperry) 4-2 in sudden victory overtime, but fell 3-2 to Miller in an overtime rematch for third place. 

Jaxon Trotter (26-24) competed in Division Three Open at 80 pounds and took fifth place. He majored Ethan Finch (Del City) 10-2 before falling 7-2 to Tyler McCall (Catoosa) in the quarterfinal. In the consolations he pinned Coalten Kennedy (Sulphur) in 2:32 and topped Christian Morales (Highlander) 6-0 before falling 10-1 to Hayden Yocham (Bristow) in the semis. In his placement match he prevailed 13-3 over Ethan Finch (Del City).

Carter Wood (13-9) competed in Division Two Open at 67 pounds and took fifth place. He defeated Jakiyas Peterson (Westmoore) in the quarterfinals, but fell 10-5 to Rebel Doiron (Tironook) in the semis. In the consolation bracket he was defeated 6-1 by Brady Larson (Del City), but he majored Peterson 11-1 in the placement match.

Matthew Moore (24-6) competed in Division Three Novice at 58 pounds and took first place. He defeated Miguel Hope (Muskogee) 4-0, pinned Dirk Johnson (Tecumseh) in 0:25, and majored Carson Owen (Ardmore) 8-0.

Ryder Barnes (10-5) competed in Division Four Novice at 105 pounds and took first place. He defeated Skyler Bean (Mustang) 7-0, Eathin Kennedy (Sulphur) 9-4, and Mort Barber (Harrah) 11-3.

Ryker Collins (7-5) competed in Division Four Novice at 160 pounds and took first place. He pinned Lane Gourley (Little Axe) in 1:14 and Owen Pazzo (J4) in 2:57, then topped Gavin Selanders (Guthrie) 6-2.

Jesse Moore (15-10) competed in Division Three Novice at 76 pounds and took second place. He defeated Kasen Harris (Comanche) 5-1 and pinned Wyatt Heuer (Harrah) in 0:37 before falling 7-5 in sudden victory overtime to Clay McKiddy (Cushing). 

Tanner Copeland (14-2) competed in Division Two Novice at 61 pounds and took third place. He was pinned in 1:12 by Hagen Sims (Davis) in the opening round, but rebounded with four-straight victories to win the consolation bracket. He defeated Creed Rogers (Davis) 6-0, then pinned Braylon Mullins (Southmoore) in 2:29, Andrew Kunkle (Catoosa) in 1:30, and Gage Goodwin (Tuttle) in 1:14. 

Samuel Moore (28-12) competed in Division One Novice at 49 pounds and took fourth place. He pinned Jordan Carey (Broken Arrow) in 0:19 and Ryker Williams (Sperry) in 0:23 before falling 5-3 to Jack Austin (Marlow) in sudden victory overtime. In the consolation bracket he majored Corbin Alexander (Broken Arrow) 15-6 but fell 5-3 to Tucker Alberty (Sapulpa) in the placement round.

Landyn Barnes (11-6) lost his opening match 4-1 to Aiden Cox (Southmoore), but majored John McDougal (Bristow) and pinned Aiden Terhune (Southmoore) in 0:21. In the consolation semifinals he got payback against Cox with a fall at 1:56, but was in-turn pinned in 0:46 by Chance Fisher (Tuttle) in the placement match.

Skyler Wood (18-4) competed in Division Two Novice at 64 pounds and took fifth place. He fell 8-0 to Dimitri Kizer (Del City) in the opening round, then pinned Louden McDoulett (Little Axe) in the consolations. In the semifinals he fell 8-5 to Peyton Heuer (Harrah), but he won his placement match with a 13-3 major decision over Ryder Trepton (Ponca City).

The State Tournament concludes the Youth Wrestling season, and it has been a good one for Sand Springs. Team Big crowned nine champions at the Cushing Halloween Takedown, eleven at the Claremore Youth Invitational, six at the Cleveland Novice Tournament, three at the Catoosa Tournament, seven at the Joe Zamora Open, four at the Team Neo Tournament, sixteen at the Sapulpa Tournament, two at the Battle for the Belt, eight at the Sperry Open, one at the Sand Springs Junior High Tournament, eight at the Owasso Tournament, twenty at the Sand Springs Team Big Tournament, three at the Collinsville Christimas Classic, eight at the Gage Underwood Memorial, one at the United State Junior Open Championship, nine at the Berryhill Tournament, twelve at the Blubuagh-Wilson Battle for Gold, eleven at the Bedlam Battle, and one at Junior High All-State.

As a team, the Sandites won the Sand Springs Junior High Tournament and the YWL State Tournament, and placed second at the Battle for Gold and the Bedlam Battle. They also came in third at the Inola Wrestling Tournament, fourth at the Sperry Open, and sixth at Junior High All State.
