Sandite Recruiting Report: Ward Commits to Coffeyville, Hughes Offered by Wesleyan

Charles Page High School senior Mason Ward committed to playing golf at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas on Monday.

“After a great talk with Coach (Conner) Murrell, I have decided to continue my academic and golf career at Coffeyville Community College,” tweeted Ward.

“I want to first thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for giving me this opportunity. I want to thank my family for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best player I can be. I also want to thank Dale Kinser for always helping and supporting me my whole life. Thank you John Thurber for supporting me and help reminding me I have the best caddie and teammate I could possible have (Jesus).”

The Coffeyville Ravens compete in the NJCAA and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. They are led by fourth-year head coach Conner Murrell. Coffeyville finished in 10th place at the NJCAA Central District Tournament last season with one National Championship qualifier.

Ward led the Sandites in four different tournaments last season.

Softball

Junior RHP/IB/OF Addison Hughes announced on X Tuesday that she has received her first college offer from Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Hughes was an All-District selection this past season as the Lady Sandites went 19-15 overall and finished as Regional Runners-Up. She went 12-7 in the circle, finishing the year with two perfect games, 115 strikeouts, and a 2.89 ERA.

Wesleyan is an NAIA program competing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference out of Bartlesville. The Eagles had a program win record of 39-12 last season under third-year head coach Shawn Woods, finishing second in the KCAC tournament.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Wilson Signs with SWOSU, Thompson Offered by UNC Pembroke

5’3” senior guard Sakauri Wilson signed a letter of intent to play at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Wednesday, November 8th.

SWOSU is an NCAA Division II program in Weatherford, competing in the Great American Conference.

The Bulldogs went 8-19 last season under first-year head coach Jeff Zinn. SWOSU is a perennial powerhouse program with five NAIA Championships and a runner-up performance in the NCAA in 2019.

Wilson was the second-leading scorer for the Sandites last season, averaging 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals. She is one of three Lady Sandites receiving college attention this year.

The Sandites will open the season on November 28th with a district home game against Edmond Memorial at 6:30 p.m.

6’4” guard Deke Thompson announced his first college offer on Monday from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

UNCP is an NCAA Division II program competing in the Conference Carolinas. The Braves went 26-4 last season under third-year head coach Drew Richards, winning back-to-back regular season conference titles.

Thompson is entering his first season at Sand Springs after transferring from Jenks this summer.

Ava Watts and Kate Webb Sign College LOIs

The Charles Page High School girls’ soccer team had two seniors sign letters of intent to play at the collegiate level Wednesday morning at the Ed Dubie Field House.

Midfielder Ava Watts signed with Texas A&M at Commerce, an NCAA Division I program competing in the Southland Conference.

"Ava is a great athletic box-to-box midfielder from Tulsa SC ECNL with an extremely high engine,” said TAMU head coach Ashley Gordon. “She has great mentality on both sides of the ball. She is good with both feet, dominates in the air and scores goals."

Watts has been one of the most prolific scorers in school history, leading the team with 21 goals last season and 37 in her career.

The TAMU Lions went 9-7-3 overall last season and were 7-1-2 in their conference.

Defender and goalkeeper Kate Webb signed with University of the Ozarks, an NCAA Division III program in Clarkesville, Arkansas, competing in the American Southwest Conference.

The Eagles had their best record in over a decade at 8-8-1 last season to tie the record for most wins in school history. They also set a new program record with six shutouts.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Taiona Morris Commits to NEO

5’7” senior guard Taiona “Yonnie” Morris announced her commitment to play basketball at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Saturday afternoon on X.

“I (am) beyond blessed to say that I will be continuing my athletic & academic career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College,” tweeted Morris.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for GOD, my loving family with their support & my parents who I am beyond grateful for for making the sacrifices they have to get me to all of my AAU practices, tournaments and etc. over the course of 5-6 years.”

“Just about 6 years ago, I had started playing the game of basketball. I would’ve never thought I’d make it this far knowing that I’ve picked up a ball late compared to everyone else. But if it wasn’t for Future Stars Athletics Training I wouldn’t be the player I am today, who’s accomplished so much talent over the past couple of years.”

“So thank you to everyone who’s believed in me and made sacrifices to support me and my future. I am so excited to play at the next level, create a brighter future for myself & I can’t wait to make you all proud.”

NEO is an NJCAA program located in Miami. The Lady Norse have been a perennial power under 19th-season head coach Jim Rowland, who led the program to five consecutive Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference titles from from 2014 to 2018. NEO went 14-13 last season and is 1-3 this year.

Morris also received offers from Eastern Oklahoma State College and Coffeyville Community College. She is one of three Sandites courting college attention this season.

Senior lineman/TE Evan Williams (5’10”, 215 pounds) announced on X Friday that he has committed to play collegiate football at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.
