Ten Sandites sign collegiate letters of intent

Brendon Wiseley is one of ten Sandites to sign letters of intent this past week.

Ten seniors from Charles Page High School signed letters of intent this past week to compete in collegiate sports.

Baseball

Kiefer Massey signed to play baseball at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City. The Eagles went 9-13 this past season but were 28-20 in 2019. They compete in the NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference.

Massey batted .273 this season with a .455 slugging average and .333 on-base percentage. He only logged 11 at-bats due to the shortened season but scored one run and three RBI on three hits, including a triple. He also spent two innings on the mound, and pitched a 0.0 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with two strikeouts. In his career he scored 11 runs and 11 RBI.

Cheer

Coleman Wright signed with the Pratt Community College Cheer program in Pratt, Kansas. The Beavers are coached by Shae Napier and compete in the NJCAA and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

Soccer

Luke Jeffus signed with the University of Tulsa to play NCAA Division 1 soccer in the American Athletic Conference. The Golden Hurricane went 4-9-2 this year. The Sandites only played three matches this season but Jeffus scored in each of them with two goals and one overtime PK. He finished his career with thirteen goals and seven PKs.

Demi Deshazo signed with Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Oklahoma. The Eagles compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes in the Sooner Athletic Conference and were 6-10-2 this past season. Deshazo scored one overtime PK this season and finished her career with two goals and four PKs.

Danielle Aicha Greminger signed with Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville. The Eagles compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Wesleyan went 18-4 this season, winning their conference.

Ari Esparza signed with Seminole State College in Seminole, Oklahoma. The Trojans went 20-1-3 this past season, winning their Region and District, and won a match in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. Esparza scored two PKs this year and finished her career with five goals and four PKs.

Track and Field

Erika Baker signed with Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, an NCAA Division II school competing in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Tigers placed 10th at the MIAA Outdoor Championships in 2019.

Baker’s indoor personal records include a 6:13 mark in the one-mile run, and a 2:54.05 in the 800 meter. In Cross Country she owns a 22:32.53 5K time, and a 14:29.29 in the two-mile run. In outdoor track she has run 1:20.07 in the 400 meter, 6:23.78 in the 1600, and 12:54.32 in the 3200.

Sarah Rigsby signed with Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, an NCAA Division 1 school in The Summit League. The Golden Eagles placed fourth at the conference Championships last year. Rigsby holds PRs of 7’06.00” in pole vault and 29:40.1 in the 5K.

Sam Keiper signed with Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. The Mustangs compete in the NCAA Division 2 level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Last year the team placed tenth in their conference. Keiper has personal records of 98’06.5” in discus and 29’01.5” in shot put. In the indoor track season he ran 8.13 in the 60 meter dash and 23.66 in the 200, and leaped 18’02.5” in long jump.

Wrestling

Brendon Wiseley signed with Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas. The Mavericks compete in the NJCAA and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. They placed 21st at the NJCAA Championship this year. Wiseley went 69-26 with the Sandites, recording 32 pins and 184 nearfall points in his career. He won the Regional Championship and was State Runner-Up as a junior.

NJCAA Wrestling: Jack Karstetter places 7th at National Championship

Labette Community College sophomore and Charles Page High School Class of 2017 graduate Jack Karstetter attained All-American status for the second time this past weekend at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Karstetter was one of five State Champions on the 2017 Sand Springs State Championship team, and he first earned All-American status at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M with a seventh-place finish at 133 pounds. He took a year off from wrestling before enrolling this past fall at Labette.

At the NJCAA West Central District Championship he came in runner-up at 133 with an 11-5 decision against fellow State Champion Kolton Smith and a 7-5 decision against TaJuan Daniels before falling 9-0 to No. 2 ranked three-time New Mexico Champion Mikey Mascarenas.

At the National Championship he lost his first match 5-2 to No. 6 Hector Candelaria, but bounced back in consolation with four straight wins. He won a 9-8 upset of No. 9 Miles Knuckles and a 9-7 decision against Matrice Smith, then pinned Payton Jackson and won 12-10 against James Davis before falling 3-1 to No. 7 Anthony Sobotker. In the seventh place match he cruised to an easy 10-3 decision against No. 8 David Kerr to end the season 32-5. He is 63-10 in his college career.

NCAA Volleyball: Gloria Mutiri announces transfer to University of Oregon

Charles Page High School alumna Gloria Mutiri kicked off the new year by announcing her intent to transfer from Kansas State University to the University of Oregon.

Mutiri was a mid-year graduate and early-enrollee from the Class of 2018. She was previously committed to Ohio State University before decommitting and signing with Kansas State in November of 2017. She finished her senior year with 524 kills, 79 blocks, and 106 digs in a 15-18 campaign, and was an All-State selection.

Mutiri was a two-year starter with the Wildcats, who wrapped up the season 9-19 overall and 4-12 in the Big 12. They were 15-12 in her freshman year, but have been in the bottom two of the conference for three-straight years.

In her two years with the Wildcats, Mutiri accounted for 553 kills, 8 assists, 20 aces, 322 digs, and 137 blocks. She was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Big 12 Rookie Team after her freshman year.

Oregon finished the 2019 season 9-20 overall and 5-15 for 9th place in the Pac-12, but are only a year removed from a 23-11 season that saw a program-best 13-7 runner-up conference finish. They are led by Head Coach Matt Ulmer, who is 50-43 after three seasons.

Oregon will look to replace three-time All Pac-12 selection Ronika Stone, as well as number-three scorer Willow Johnson, but will return ten of the twelve players who saw action this year. The Ducks’ 2019 recruiting class was ranked third in the nation by VolleyballMag.com, and Mutiri could provide an anchor for third-straight top-six class.

CPHS Baseball: Tatum Watie signs with Northeastern State University

Charles Page High School senior pitcher Tatum Watie signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning to play baseball at Northeastern State University.

Watie didn’t see any varsity action last season, but went 4-1 on the JV mound with a 1.96 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 18 innings. He tallied 3 runs and 2 stolen bases while running courtesy.

NSU is an NCAA Division 2 school located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The Riverhawks play in the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association. They went 12-37 overall last season and were 9-24 in conference action. They are only a year-removed from a winning 28-24 campaign in 2018. The Riverhawks are led by fifth-year head coach Jake Hendrick, who owns an 89-109 overall record and 63-79 conference record over his first four years.

The Sandite baseball team will enter its first season under Interim Head Coach Matt Brown this spring. The year will start March 2nd at 6:00 p.m. with a district home game against Edmond Memorial. They went 22-11 last season and were 8-4 in district action.

CPHS Volleyball: Raylynn Mong signs with Ottawa University

Charles Page High School senior Raylynn Mong signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Ottawa University Wednesday morning.

Mong received an All-Conference Honorable Mention after helping her team to an 18-14 record record this season. She posted a team-high 376 assists and team-high 45 aces, along with 2 blocks and 189 digs.

Ottawa is a private Baptist university in Ottawa, Kansas competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Braves went 27-13 last year and were 11-1 for second place in the conference standings. They won the post-season conference tournament and made their fourth-straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament. They are currently 20-14, 9-3 in the current season.

Ottawa is coached by Melissa Blessington in her sixth season. She owns a 166-66 overall record and 95-11 conference record with the Braves.

CPHS Volleyball: Devree Youngblood signs with Oklahoma Baptist University

Charles Page High School senior Devree Youngblood signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning to play volleyball at Oklahoma Baptist University. Youngblood was a four-year starter at outside hitter/middle blocker.

Youngblood led her team to an 18-14 season this year and the team put up two winning records in her career. She got an All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore and made the All-Conference first team and Academic All-Conference teams the past two seasons. She made the All-Tournament teams at the 2018 Union and Broken Arrow Tournaments, and the 2019 Sand Springs, Mustang, and Union tournaments.

In her senior year Youngblood accounted for 260 kills, 12 assists, 6 solo blocks, 48 assisted blocks, 326 digs, and 38 aces. She led the team in kills and digs.

OBU is a private Baptist school in Shawnee, competing in the NCAA Division 2 level and Great American Conference. The Bison went 16-17 last season and 9-7 in conference, but are currently 24-5 and 13-2. They are led by twelfth-year head coach Anna Howle, who owns a 312-137 record.
