Men’s Basketball

2021 CPHS alum Marlo Fox is in his junior year at Rogers State University (2-2). He played two minutes in a season-opening 82-58 loss to Minot State but didn’t see action in the past three games. The Hillcats will return to action Saturday afternoon against Fort Hays State (5-1).

Football

Pittsburg State University backup quarterback Ty Pennington (2021) saw his season come to an end in a 24-21 loss to No. 2 Grand Valley State (11-1) in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

The seventh-ranked Gorillas (11-2) took a 21-14 lead into the fourth quarter but gave up 10 unanswered points, including the go-ahead touchdown with 35 seconds remaining, to end their season.

Pennington ended his redshirt-freshman year 46-of-69 passing for 447 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception with another 359 yards and four touchdowns on 76 carries.

Cheer

Ashley Blake (2022) is in her sophomore year at Oklahoma Baptist University and Coleman Wright (2020) is in his senior season at Nichols College.

Softball

Drew Hawkins (2021) is gearing up for her junior season next spring at Northeastern State University. The starting outfielder had a flawless defensive record last season while batting .235 while the RiverHawks went 30-21.

Jordyn Pearson (2021) will look to pick up some additional playing time in her junior year at Missouri Baptist University after playing two games last season in a 35-18-1 Spartan campaign. Pearson holds a 3.82 ERA and .333 career batting average after two seasons.

Shooting Sports

Gunnar Casey (2021) and Sammy Naugle (2021) are in their junior season at Connors State College. Casey recently posted a top-20 finish at the Ft. Hayes tournament in double skeet.

Baseball

Kyler Copeland (2019) will kick off his junior year this spring at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. Copeland is in his second year with the Savage Storm after previous stints at College of the Ozarks and Dodge City Community College.

Kaden Young (2021) is expected to play at Randall University in Moore this spring after a two-year stint at Oklahoma Wesleyan.

2023 graduates Jabe Schlehuber and Dominic Ornelas will start their college careers at Northern Oklahoma College at Enid this spring.

2019 graduates Cale Savage and Cal Watkins will play their junior years together at Washburn University. Watkins played two years at Seminole State College while Savage played two years at NOC-Enid before the two reunited last season.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Kiaryn Taylor Offered by Cleveland Community College

5’10” senior small forward Kiaryn Taylor announced on social media Monday that she had received an offer to play collegiate basketball at Cleveland Community College.

CCC is an NJCAA program in Shelby, North Carolina. The Yetis are a first-year program led by Scooter Lawrence, who previously coached the Shelby High School basketball team to a State Championship and multiple conference titles. Cleveland is 1-2 at press time in its inaugural season.

Taylor also holds offers from Western Texas College, Ranger College, and Lincoln Trail College. She is one of three Lady Sandites with plans to play at the next level.

5’3” senior guard Sakauri Wilson signed a letter of intent to play at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Wednesday, November 8th.

5’7” senior guard Taiona “Yonnie” Morris recently announced her commitment to play at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

On the boys’ side, 6’4” junior guard Deke Thompson recently announced his first college offer on Monday from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

The Sandites will kick off the season on Tuesday, November 28th, against Edmond Memorial. The district home games will start with varsity girls at 6:30 p.m. and varsity boys at 8:00 p.m. at the Ed Dubie Field House.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Ward Commits to Coffeyville, Hughes Offered by Wesleyan

Charles Page High School senior Mason Ward committed to playing golf at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas on Monday.

“After a great talk with Coach (Conner) Murrell, I have decided to continue my academic and golf career at Coffeyville Community College,” tweeted Ward.

“I want to first thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for giving me this opportunity. I want to thank my family for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best player I can be. I also want to thank Dale Kinser for always helping and supporting me my whole life. Thank you John Thurber for supporting me and help reminding me I have the best caddie and teammate I could possible have (Jesus).”

The Coffeyville Ravens compete in the NJCAA and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. They are led by fourth-year head coach Conner Murrell. Coffeyville finished in 10th place at the NJCAA Central District Tournament last season with one National Championship qualifier.

Ward led the Sandites in four different tournaments last season.

Softball

Junior RHP/IB/OF Addison Hughes announced on X Tuesday that she has received her first college offer from Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Hughes was an All-District selection this past season as the Lady Sandites went 19-15 overall and finished as Regional Runners-Up. She went 12-7 in the circle, finishing the year with two perfect games, 115 strikeouts, and a 2.89 ERA.

Wesleyan is an NAIA program competing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference out of Bartlesville. The Eagles had a program win record of 39-12 last season under third-year head coach Shawn Woods, finishing second in the KCAC tournament.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Wilson Signs with SWOSU, Thompson Offered by UNC Pembroke

5’3” senior guard Sakauri Wilson signed a letter of intent to play at Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Wednesday, November 8th.

SWOSU is an NCAA Division II program in Weatherford, competing in the Great American Conference.

The Bulldogs went 8-19 last season under first-year head coach Jeff Zinn. SWOSU is a perennial powerhouse program with five NAIA Championships and a runner-up performance in the NCAA in 2019.

Wilson was the second-leading scorer for the Sandites last season, averaging 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals. She is one of three Lady Sandites receiving college attention this year.

UNCP is an NCAA Division II program competing in the Conference Carolinas. The Braves went 26-4 last season under third-year head coach Drew Richards, winning back-to-back regular season conference titles.

Thompson is entering his first season at Sand Springs after transferring from Jenks this summer.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Taiona Morris Commits to NEO

5’7” senior guard Taiona “Yonnie” Morris announced her commitment to play basketball at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Saturday afternoon on X.

“I (am) beyond blessed to say that I will be continuing my athletic & academic career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College,” tweeted Morris.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for GOD, my loving family with their support & my parents who I am beyond grateful for for making the sacrifices they have to get me to all of my AAU practices, tournaments and etc. over the course of 5-6 years.”

“Just about 6 years ago, I had started playing the game of basketball. I would’ve never thought I’d make it this far knowing that I’ve picked up a ball late compared to everyone else. But if it wasn’t for Future Stars Athletics Training I wouldn’t be the player I am today, who’s accomplished so much talent over the past couple of years.”

“So thank you to everyone who’s believed in me and made sacrifices to support me and my future. I am so excited to play at the next level, create a brighter future for myself & I can’t wait to make you all proud.”

NEO is an NJCAA program located in Miami. The Lady Norse have been a perennial power under 19th-season head coach Jim Rowland, who led the program to five consecutive Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference titles from from 2014 to 2018. NEO went 14-13 last season and is 1-3 this year.

Morris also received offers from Eastern Oklahoma State College and Coffeyville Community College. She is one of three Sandites courting college attention this season.

Sandite Recruiting Report: Evan Williams Commits to Bethel College

Senior lineman/TE Evan Williams (5’10”, 215 pounds) announced on X Friday that he has committed to play collegiate football at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.

“I can’t wait to continue my academic and my athletic career at Bethel college,” tweeted Williams.

“I want to thank God for all he has done for me to have the opportunity to play at the next level.”

“I also want to thank my Mom for all you did for me growing up: running me house to house, getting me to the summer workouts and all the practices. Thank you for all you do for our family.”

“Thank you Dad for all the tournaments and games you came to no matter the weather conditions simply because you wanted to see me succeed.”

The Threshers compete in the NAIA and are led by first-year head coach A.B. Stokes. The Threshers have won back-to-back Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championships and are currently 6-4 in the current season.

Before being offered by Bethel, Williams also received offers to play at Kansas Wesleyan University, Hendrix College, Lyons College, and Oklahoma Wildcats Prep.

Williams is one of nine Sandites with offers to play collegiate football.
