CPHS Baseball: Sand Springs run-rules Hornets 9-0 at Bixby Tournament
/The Charles Page High School varsity baseball team (17-3) kicked off the Bixby/Broken Arrow Turf War with a 9-0 shutout of Booker T. Washington (6-12) Thursday afternoon, run-ruling the Hornets in under five innings. The Sandites outhit their foes 10 to 4 in their fourth-straight victory.
Keaton Campbell and Malachi Burks both hit 2RBI singles in the second inning and Tyler Ash had an RBI double. Jacob Snodgrass, Kaegan Murray, Campbell, Brycen Peterman, and Ash scored runs for a 5-0 lead.
The Sandites loaded the bases in the third. Murray and Snodgrass scored on a single from Peterman, and John Miller scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 8-0. Finally, in the bottom of the fourth, Kyler Copeland reached on an error and scored on a triple from Snodgrass. The Hornets landed two singles in the top of the fifth, but stranded both runners to end the game.
Undefeated senior Seth Villines (3-0, 4-0) got the win on the mound, throwing four hits, four walks, and five strikeouts in five innings.
The Sandites will play Jenks (14-9) and Bixby (19-5) Friday in pool play at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively. The game against Jenks will provide valuable experience as the Sandites and Trojans will meet next week in huge district battles.
