Jenks Volleyball sweeps Sand Springs 3-0, Youngblood scores 15

Jenks High School (10-5, 4-0) swept the Sand Springs Volleyball team (11-8, 3-2) in straight sets Tuesday night at Frank Herald Field House to remain undefeated in Frontier Valley Conference action with scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-19.

The Sandites kept pace with Jenks through most of the first set, despite never leading, and didn’t slip too far behind till a four point run at 15-10. The Trojans only committed two errors in the set, with fourteen kills, three blocks, and three aces. Mikiah Perdue scored six points in the set and Emma Rhodes secured the win on a tipped ball.

Game two was far closer and Sand Springs led early on. Vanessa Wyrick, Madison Burris, and Raylynn Mong rattled off three straight kills to open the set. Cloe Campfield scored two kills and Madison Blaylock had two aces in a four point run for the 8-3 lead, then Jenks responded with a seven point streak for the 10-8 advantage.

A pair of kills from Savannah Labishe made it 14-9 for the biggest lead of the set, but Sand Springs rallied and tied it at 16-16 with a kill from Wyrick. Wyrick tied it again at 17-17, Mackenzie Harris tied it at 18-18 and Burris tied it at 21-21 before the home team rattled off four points for the win, capped by back-to-back aces from Sophie Bufogle.

The Trojans never trailed in the final set and took their biggest lead at 21-12 after a kill form Bufogle. Sand Springs won seven of the next eight rallies but the home team finished strong with back-to-back kills from Addison Morgan.

Oklahoma Baptist University-committed senior Devree Youngblood led all scorers with fourteen kills for the Sandites and also had a team-high thirteen digs. Mong led her team in assists with thirteen. Sydney Williams was the top scorer for Jenks with ten kills.
