CPHS Volleyball: Sand Springs hammers McLain 25-4 and 25-4 at Sandite Invitational

The Charles Page High School varsity volleyball team (3-6) picked up its biggest win in years Friday morning, with a 2-0 sweep of Raymond S. McLain High School (0-2) in the first round of the Sandite Invitational.

The Lady Sandites rolled past the Titans 25-4 and 25-4 in a best-of-three series in their inaugural home tournament. Senior standout Madison Burris led all scorers with ten aces and two kills in the match.

In game one the Sandites got off to an 8-0 lead with four aces from Raylynn Mong before a pair of errors let the Titans on the board. They then won twelve-straight rallies to make it 24-3, and Sophie Singleton scored the game-winning kill.

In the second set they came very near to recording a shutout, which is practically unheard of in volleyball. The girls took a 23-0 lead with twelve aces, including all ten of Burris’s, before giving up a series of errors. That match ended with a McLain service error.

Cloe Campfield had a team-high four kills for the Sandites and Mong had a team-high four assists. Fifteen players saw action for Sand Springs and eleven scored points.

Sand Springs will return to action against Will Rogers High School (4-4) at 3:00 p.m. and against Tecumseh (4-3) at 5:00 p.m.
