Youth Wrestling: Sandites crown six champions at Ponca City tournament

The Sand Springs Team Big wrestling club recently crowned six champions and seven runners-up at the Blubaugh/Wilson Battle for Gold in Ponca City.

Division 4

Clayton Giddens-Buttram (21-2) won the seventy-pound bracket handily. After winning a 4-0 decision over teammate Grady Mittasch, he pinned Madden Smith in 2:09 and Devon Miller in 2:35. Mittasch (10-4) was runner-up, defeating Miller 2-1, and pinning Smith in 1:02.

Balance Johnson (7-2) came in runner-up at 130 pounds, pinning Hunter Degraffenreid in 1:16, but falling 13-10 to William Shoemaker.

Division 3

Jaxon Trotter (26-6) won the hundred-pound bracket handily, majoring Cale McPeek 17-6 in the opening round before rattling off three falls. He pinned Evan Hoopingarner in 3:56, Lance Arbona in 2:29, and Jaxon Goddard in 57 seconds. He also wrestled up to Division 4 (6-4) at 96 pounds and came in runner up. He pinned Braden Henry in 2:15 and Wyatt Cargill in 3:33, but fell 9-2 to Braden Hall.

Nation Johnson (8-5) came in runner-up at ninety pounds. He lost his opening match in a close 10-8 decision to Garritt Hunt, but rebounded with a 19-4 technical fall against Ayden Allison, then pinned John Allen in 2:10.

Henry Hill (2-2) placed third at 61 pounds. He pinned Julian Aguilar in 3:39 and defeated Kason Delgado 7-0, but fell to Blake Cooper and Kason Delgado.

Division 2

Promised Johnson (10-3) came in runner-up at 76 pounds, defeating Peyton Heuer 10-5, but was pinned in the finals by Jakoby Petree.

Kasen McAffrey (13-2) placed second at seventy pounds, pinning Daxton Adams in 1:19 and Barrett Blakemore in 0:51, but falling 12-1 to Jaedan Adams.

Division 1

Asher Giddens (20-4) won the 46-pound division, pinning Rocco Esposito in 1:58, and defeating Braxton Johnson 4-0.

Novice 3

Isaac Sensintaffar (5-0) won his second-straight tournament at 76 pounds, pinning David Hornbeck in 1:16 and Isaiah Ochoa in 0:26. He also placed third in Open (1-5), pinning Gavin Pettit in 4:04.

Novice 2

Griffin Sensintaffer (8-2) won the 49-pound bracket with a pair of decisions, defeating Hunter Leverich 7-5 and Buddy Fitzgerald 10-7. He also placed third in the Open division (2-2). He dropped a pair of decisions, but he received a forfeit and pinned Leverich in 56 seconds.

Legend Johnson (6-4) came in runner-up at 61 pounds, pinning Austin Peterson in 2:08 and CJ Allee in 2:59 before falling to Mikaili Lee.

Novice 1

Cooper Ellenburg (15-8) won the 52-pound bracket, pinning Zayden Gray in 2:42 and Samual Finton in fourteen seconds.
