The Class 6A No. 12 ranked Charles Page High School boys basketball team won a thriller against 5A No. 8 Bishop Kelley Friday night at the Ed Dubie Field House to kick off conference play in style.

Colt Savage scored the first two points of the game from the charity stripe, Zachary Coffman hit a three for the Comets, Cale Savage scored two, then the visitors went on an eight-point run to take the lead for the duration of the first period.

Matt Price made a three point play off a fouled layup to start the second quarter down 13-11, Coffman hit another three, then Price tacked on two more free throws. The eldest Savage hit back to back threes at the end of the half to take the lead 25-24 and Josh Minney rebounded the Comets' next shot and drained the clock for the halftime advantage.

The Sandites pushed their advantage to 33-29 in the third quarter, kicked off by a two point basket from Davon Richardson. Ryan Gendron and Anthony Bomprezzi tied it up at 27-27, but Richardson scored a pair of free throws and sent a rebound to Colt Savage for a dunk and 31-27 lead. Michael Pynn added two free throws, but Colt undid them with a two for the 33-29 lead to start the final stretch.

Coffman hit two from the charity stripe, Richardson scored two for the Sandites, then Cale Savage gave his team their biggest lead of the game at 38-31 with a three-point basket. The visitors went down swinging, however, fighting back for a 44-43 lead behind Bomprezzi and Garrett Salyer.

Colt Savage scored a pair of free throws for the lead and Richardson snagged a steal, but the Comets sent Savage to the line again and this time he missed and was rebounded by Gendron with seven seconds left. Both teams exchanged timeouts and the Comets took one last shot with a little more than a second remaining. The shooter went down in a pile of bodies, however, and the Sandites came up with the win.

Sand Springs will continue conference play Tuesday with a trip to No. 17 Sapulpa for a Highway 97 Rivalry matchup and the Chieftains' season-opener. Bishop Kelley will host unranked Bartlesville for the Bruins' season-opener.
