Charles Page High School Fishing

High school fishing is one of the fastest-growing sports in Oklahoma, and for good reason. Who in Oklahoma doesn’t have some experience with a rod and reel? This beloved past-time is now offered as an unofficial club sport at Charles Page High School, through Oklahoma Bass Nation.

Sand Springs Fishing got started in 2015 with the rise of Oklahoma Bass Nation, and the school now fields several two-man teams each year. They are coached by parents or volunteer pilots on privately owned vessels and expenses are paid through sponsorships by local businesses.

The year-long season consists of trail events in the fall and spring, plus a state championship in the summer. Teams can then advance to the national championship based on their finishing positions in the trail points and state championship.

Individuals with children who would like to compete, or individuals who would like to co-sponsor a team or volunteer as pilots/captains can reach out to the Charles Page High School Bass Fishing Team on Facebook, or email cphsfishingteam@gmail.com to get involved.

Sand Springs Fishing History

Noah Daczewitz and Hunter Hilger were the first-ever OBN fishing team out of Sand Springs, and they helped pioneer the program, which has since grown into one of the most successful in the state. On April 28, 2016 they won the Sandite Bass Classic to help launch the program. They finished their first year in ninth place in the Bass Nation team standings.

Hilger and Daczewitz won the April 8, 2017 OBN trail event at Lake Eufala with four fish totaling 16.15 pounds for the first OBN win in program history. Seth Kearns and Cole Scott followed it up with a win at the June 3, 2017 OBN trail event, also at Lake Eufala. Sandite Fishing won its first State Championship that year, led by a second place finish from Miller and Pennington, who caught 15.46 pounds worth of fish. Miller and Pennington also won the Fishing League Worldwide Missouri Open that year and qualified for both the Costa Bassmaster National Championship, and the Bass Nation Championship.

In the 2019-2020 season-opener Kearns and Scott won their second event, catching four fish and a total of 13.18 pounds on Lake Texoma. Jerret Haley and Dalton DuVall placed second at the 2020 State Championship on Lake Tenkiller, and had the biggest single fish at 4.76 pounds, while the Hilligosses finished in third.

Cruz Norris and Gunnar Casey won the March 28, 2021 event with 12.87 pounds, bring the total to four trail wins for the Sand Springs Fishing Team.
