CPHS Wrestling: Sandites routed 58-9 by No. 2 Mustang

Brendon Wiseley, pictured here in a dual with Stillwater, put the Sandites on the board against Mustang after his team fell behind 37-0.

The Class 6A No. 7 ranked Charles Page High School wrestling team (2-1) took on its toughest opponent of the season thus far Tuesday night, and were routed 58-9 by No. 2 Mustang (4-0) at the Ed Dubie Field House. The home team won only two matches, and gave up six pins in their worst loss since 2000.

Mustang is currently ranked No. 39 in the country by Intermatwrestle.com and features four defending State Champions.

The dual started at 160 pounds and Mustang won five consecutive pins and seven-straight matches for a 37-0 lead before Brendon Wiseley (7-3, 59-23) picked up a 4-0 decision against Shelton Chastain. The Broncos won their next two matches before Seth Jones (6-1, 50-30) pinned Weldon Bryan in 1:59 to make it 48-9. The visitors ended the night on a three-match run.

The Sandites have two more top-ranked duals on the horizon against 6A No. 1 Broken Arrow (2-0) and 5A No. 2 Collinsville (2-0), but first will travel to the Kansas City Stampede in their final event of 2019. Mustang will also compete at Kansas City.
